Chapter 3 Stealing Underpants
Bowls and chopsticks were smashed all over the floor.
He Zhaodi stood up with the bowl of white rice in his hand, took two steps back, and didn't spill a single grain of rice.
She continued eating as if nothing had happened.
Just as He Weiye was about to explode, Liu Aiyun pulled him aside and whispered something to him, which immediately calmed He Weiye down.
"Hmph." He Weiye turned to look at Liu Aiyun. "What are you standing there for? Go cook me a new meal."
After finishing his meal, He Zhaoyang went straight back to his room and began cultivating his spiritual energy.
early morning.
On the village road, several women were squatting in the corner picking vegetables, while gossiping.
A dozen meters behind them, He Zhaodi was thinking about how to shake off He Xidi.
She ate a century-old ginseng before going to bed last night, which caused her to suddenly turn into a rabbit shape this morning. She was almost discovered by the He family, but fortunately, her eyes have recovered to a large extent after the recovery.
He Xidi clung to her like a leech from early morning, and she had no idea what Liu Aiyun had said to her yesterday.
While picking green beans, Shi Li approached mysteriously and said, "Hey, did you know? Last night, that fat guy from the He family pushed a man into the water."
Quartz, standing nearby, stared wide-eyed and asked blankly, "Huh? Why are you pressing it into the water?"
Shi Xiulan gave a meaningful look and lowered her voice, saying, "You're saying it's the middle of the night, a lone man and woman by the water, in the dark, what could they possibly be doing?"
Shi Ying gasped. "Oh my, shameless! Doesn't that chubby girl from the He family still have a marriage agreement?"
Just then, the person in charge of the conversation happened to pass by.
Wonderful.
He Xidi's eyes lit up after following He Zhaodi all morning, and he couldn't help but smile. "You fatso, let's see what you're going to do now."
He Zhao sneered, "Aunt Shi Li, do I need to tell you what you did last night?"
Shi Li threw the green beans she was holding on the ground. "What do you mean? What did I do last night? You brat, you're making up stories about me now. Ask your mother if she would make up stories about me like that?"
He Zhaodi remained completely unfazed. "Last night you went to Old Li's house and stole a bunch of cucumbers, and Old Li's underwear is also missing."
All around was silent.
Shi Li's face turned pale instantly, but she still stubbornly insisted, "Who, who took it? I couldn't have done such a thing. Don't try to frame me."
He Xidi was happy to see He Zhaodi embarrassed, "That's right, He Zhaodi, you can't just say things without evidence."
"Is it really enough to just call Lao Li over for a confrontation?"
Everyone looked in the direction of the sound and saw a tall man get out of the car and walk towards He Zhaodi. He was wearing a faded military uniform and had a cold and stern look in his eyes.
Sheng Yuze glanced at Shi Li and said, "Shi Tou, call Lao Li over and tell him that the vegetables he lost have been found."
"Okay, bro."
The stone suddenly ran far away.
Shi Li collapsed to the ground; it was all over.
Everyone understood her reaction.
"Brother Yuze!"
He Xidi's eyes lit up immediately; she really hadn't expected to run into Sheng Yuze while following that fatso.
He Zhaodi understood immediately; it seemed that Sheng Yuze was the one who had helped him out of this predicament.
Sheng Yuze frowned and looked at He Xidi. He had seen clearly how she had spoken up for He Zhaodi on behalf of outsiders.
Sheng Yuze looked at He Zhao, who was dressed in shabby clothes, had frizzy hair, and was so fat that his features were unrecognizable. His eyes were completely expressionless. "Where are you going?"
He Zhaodi: "Enter the city."
Sheng Yuze frowned. "Are you alone?"
He Xidi tried his best to make a sound, "Cough cough cough."
He Zhaodi curled his lip, "Isn't there another tagalong?"
Sheng Yuze had a general understanding of the He family's situation, so he nodded and said, "Get in the car, I'm going into town on business."
Before He Zhaodi could refuse, He Xidi quickly agreed, "Okay, okay."
Sheng Yuze frowned slightly, as if he wanted to say something, but ultimately remained silent.
He Zhaodi initially wanted to refuse, but then he thought that He Xidi was watching too closely, which would be a good opportunity for Sheng Yuze to divert his attention.
"Thank you very much."
After getting in the car, He Xidi sat directly in the passenger seat, while He Zhaodi, dragging her bulky body, sat in the back.
"Yuze, what are you doing in the city?"
"Yuze-ge, have you eaten?"
"Brother Yuze, I have something to tell you..."
"Shut up." Sheng Yuze impatiently interrupted He Xidi, glancing at He Zhaodi without leaving a trace. "Your sister and I are engaged. You should call me brother-in-law."
He Xidi fell silent, but then she thought, did Yu Ze's words mean that he didn't like He Zhaodi, but was only restrained by their engagement?
He Zhaodi sat in the back row, expressionless, as if he hadn't heard anything.
After all, she had no plans to get married; all she wanted to do now was to quickly resolve this mess with the He family.
The car swayed and rattled into the city.
"Where to?" Sheng Yuze suddenly asked, looking at her in the rearview mirror.
He Zhao raised his eyelids slightly: "Medicinal herb purchasing station."
He Xidi turned her head again, a thought flashing through her mind. Sure enough, her mother was right to have me go with her last night. "What are you doing at the purchasing station? Do you have medicinal herbs to sell?"
"I picked up a few rotten tree roots and exchanged them for a couple of coins," He Zhaodi casually made up.
Sheng Yuze didn't ask any more questions. He turned the steering wheel and the car turned onto the dirt road leading to the purchasing station.
As soon as the car stopped, He Zhaodi awkwardly got out, with He Xidi following closely behind.
"Are you sure you want to come with me?" she asked He Xidi.
He Xi looked at her, puzzled. "Mother told me to stay with you."
He Zhaodi whispered, "You heard it too, Sheng Yuze is only getting married because of our engagement. If you can seize this opportunity now..."
Before He Zhaodi could finish speaking, He Xidi already understood. She looked at Sheng Yuze leaning against the car with delight and a shy expression.
He Zhao looked at her as she walked towards Sheng Yuze and said something, but she didn't care and just groped her way into the purchasing station.
Inside, there was only a receiving clerk wearing reading glasses, leaning over the counter flipping through a yellowed newspaper. Hearing the noise, he lifted his eyelids to glance at her, then lowered his head again.
What are you selling?
He Zhaodi placed the tattered cloth bag in his arms on the counter and opened it layer by layer.
There is a ginseng root inside.
The receiving clerk then put down his newspaper and began to examine the ginseng root carefully.
"They're not small," the receiving clerk said. "The condition is alright, but they're a bit young."
He Zhaodi: "How much can it sell for?"
The receiving clerk glanced at He Zhaodi and said, "60 cents per gram, are you selling or not? If you are, I'll weigh it."
He Zhao frowned; it was less than he had expected. "Okay."
The receiving clerk picked up the scale. "56 grams."
He put down the steelyard, took out a form from the drawer, opened his pen, and said, "33.6 yuan. Did you bring the letter of introduction?"
He Zhao looked at it for a moment: "What kind of letter of introduction?"
The receiving clerk sized her up and pushed the ginseng back, saying, "No letter of introduction? Where did this come from? The commune will investigate if they find out. Take it away now."
He Zhao looked annoyed; he had actually forgotten something so important.
She rewrapped the ginseng, tucked it into her bosom, and turned to leave.
As she pushed open the door to leave, she was already calculating that the letter of introduction was in Liu Aiyun's hands and there was no way she could give it to her.
Ask someone else for help? Everyone in the village is related to the He family; how could they possibly help her?
She paused for a moment and looked at Sheng Yuze, who was being impatiently pestered by He Xidi outside the door.
Unless he's willing to help.
