Chapter 15 Substitute Money, Borrowing a Path to the Underworld

"Hey, it's an acquaintance, it's an acquaintance, let's calculate the price together, don't throw us all into the river."

Mr. Lin shouted towards Li Feng, and only then did the boatman, with a cold face, push the boat closer.

"Since these three wouldn't pay a price, we tied them up. If we hadn't run into someone we knew, we would have thrown them into the river long ago."

The boatman on Mr. Lin's boat spoke angrily, gripping a knife in his hand. He glared fiercely at Mr. Lin, then glanced at Li Feng, "This gentleman has good looks; surely he can afford the price?"

Li Feng frowned. He didn't have enough money. The money he had just paid the boatman was the money his master had left him, which was supposed to be refundable. Now he only had one coin left.

"Yes, yes, yes, of course! This is my head chef, the one in charge of the money!"

Mr. Lin winked at Li Feng and called him over.

Li Feng, his hands sweating, handed a coin to Mr. Lin. The two men there also saw the coin in Li Feng's hand and their eyes widened. The clerk, Huang, couldn't help but swallow hard.

Everyone saw clearly that it was one coin, and each person needed three copper coins, so it would still cost six coins. Wasn't this a scam?!

Unexpectedly, the boatman then handed over six coins. His expression softened, and he said with a smile, "Guests, please sit down. Let's get going!"

Before they had even reached the halfway point, a sudden gust of wind swept across the river, and the two awning boats began to spin in place, no longer moving forward.

"What's wrong?"

"I don't see anyone daring to cause trouble in the underworld, do I?"

"Shut up. Who told you to take this job? I've already said, how many of those who die in the flesh come out healthy?"

"Slow down, let's cross the river when things have calmed down a bit!"

The two boatmen were still complaining to each other when hands reached out from the water on both sides of the boat, trying to hold it back.

"Good heavens, where are we being led now?!"

The two boatmen were dumbfounded, their faces tense. They had been entrusted with this job, only thinking about the high price, never expecting that so many troubles were hidden inside.

For ordinary ferrymen, giving three copper coins is considered a good deed; if they encounter a vicious ferryman, they might as well just kick him into the river and that would be the end of it.

Unlike now, if you take on this job, you naturally have to deliver it to the place. There are rules in this business, and breaking the rules can cost you your life.

Helpless, the two could only grit their teeth and hold on with bamboo poles, praying that the river would calm down soon, and also scattering the joss paper they had with them into the river.

But the creatures in the river wouldn't listen to this at all, continuing to rock the boat and even steer it to the side.

As the boat gradually veered off course, the two boatmen panicked completely. They could hear the sound of someone shoving the boat underwater, and they were worried about ruining their livelihood.

"Gentlemen, what have you done to offend this creature? Why won't it let you leave?"

The two boatmen looked over at Li Feng and his companions, their faces pale, clearly startled.

Li Feng was also filled with surprise and doubt, not knowing how he had come to this place, let alone how he had provoked these things.

I thought Mr. Lin seemed to know something, and I was thinking of asking him some questions, but it didn't seem appropriate right now.

Just as they were pondering what method to use, the boatman became even more anxious, "No, that won't do! We'll refund everyone's money first, and give you double the amount, double the amount!"

Mr. Lin was about to speak when, without warning, the cloth-bound knife on Li Feng's back suddenly jumped out, brimming with ferocity. Before Li Feng could speak, it plunged straight into the water.

Everyone was startled, and when they looked at the water, it was already stained red with blood.

"Goodness gracious, what is that thing? It's so fierce!"

The two boatmen were dumbfounded, struggling desperately to maintain their balance while punting on their bamboo poles.

The underwater knife was churning even more violently. Li Feng watched with his naked eye, somewhat surprised, as the debt energy on the Heaven and Earth Bank kept jumping around.

One can't help but sigh, the debt collectors are really pushing hard!

Mr. Lin, who was standing nearby, couldn't help but glance at Li Feng as he watched this scene. He felt increasingly uneasy, sensing that something was amiss.

Did that local deity sell himself out?

The blood stained the ground redder, even turning the water into a stench.

Before long, a strong wind rose on the river, and wisps of dust drifted in from afar, making everyone even more panicked.

Before Mr. Lin could speak, the boatman, who had already recognized the situation, exclaimed in alarm, "Could it be a ghost army using this route to abduct people?!"

No sooner had he finished speaking than the sound of horses' hooves was heard. The horses' hooves pounded on the water but did not sink.

The gray shadow, accompanied by a pale green light, appeared even more terrifying and eerie.

Upon closer inspection, it became clear that the figure was a soldier dressed in a large trousers, shouting, "Who's the fierce one? Come with me!"

None of them dared to utter a sound; they were all terrified. Who knew where the ghost soldiers were taking them?

He watched as the thug leaped up, straightened his back, and swallowed a mouthful of blood from the blade.

Li Feng had a bad feeling and wanted to pull the murderous knife back, but he didn't expect the knife to be so bold, not even afraid of the ghost soldiers. Could it be that it wanted to kill the murderous knife?

"General! General! How could you have become like this!"

Unexpectedly, when the ghostly soldier saw the murderous blade, he flipped off his horse and knelt down on the ground.

Suddenly, everyone fell silent.

"It's him, General, we understand!"

The ghostly soldier pointed in Li Feng's direction, strode forward, and kowtowed three times to Li Feng with a thud.

Li Feng quickly tried to lift him up, but kowtowing was not allowed here; there were no ghost soldiers kowtowing to living people.

Those people who saw this scene were startled, and their gazes toward Li Feng changed somewhat. Who was this person who could make the ghost soldiers kneel down?

"Our benefactor! Words cannot express our gratitude! Our benefactor's lifespan hasn't ended; he's in dire straits! Come back to the mortal realm with us!"

With that, he boomed out in a loud voice, "Brothers, let's stand up straight, form ranks, and welcome our general back to the ranks!"

"And I've also included a message for our many benefactors!"

The leading ghostly soldier looked towards Li Feng, "Benefactor, which ones are we taking away?"

Li Feng glanced at Mr. Lin, who nodded. However, Huang, the head of the case, and the handsome young man secretly shook their heads.

"Take them all, take them all. We must remember the kindness shown to us by our elders!"

After saying that, he conjured a gust of wind and carried all of them away.

The two boatmen, their faces pale, shouted, "Don't go! Don't go! Our boat! Our boat!"

A gust of sand and dust swept through the air, and the group took shelter in the wind. Li Feng finally seized the opportunity to ask, looking at Mr. Lin, "Sir, what brings you here?"
