Chapter 18 Moon-gazing Night, Zha'ao Mountain

The day has changed; it's no longer just a crescent moon.

Instead, one could vaguely see some light shining through the clouds, illuminating a halo that outlined the entire full moon.

"Wrong, wrong, this isn't the scene, it's definitely not the scene!"

Huang Dazhang's face turned red with suppressed anger, and he pointed at the sky and yelled strangely.

"Yes, how could it be like this? Is that something underwater causing trouble?"

A boy who looked like he was barely alive climbed onto the deck. He had a topknot and was only wearing a red bib. His face looked sallow and dull.

"Xiang Tong'er, you traitor! I should have exposed you earlier, then we wouldn't be in this mess!"

Upon seeing the boy, Chief Judge Huang was furious. He had only thought the boy could be of help, but the boy had turned against them halfway through and almost killed them.

The boy also looked bitter, and mumbled, "Master Steward, please don't make fun of me. You are a magnanimous person. Who among us wanders the world is a free man? If I hadn't been held hostage, how could I have done such a thing?"

"Besides, you've seen the situation right now. Do I even look human anymore? My mother has been forced to make money off this mess. If I hadn't followed their orders, she wouldn't be alive today!"

As the boy spoke, Li Feng listened carefully. He stole a glance at the boy and his heart sank. It seemed that all these previous incidents were related to the people from the Ascension Sect in front of him.

Even listening to the meaning, it still revolves around that Chief Justice Huang.

"Oh!"

Li Feng's face was gloomy as he thought about how the current situation was indeed unfavorable, and the full moon hanging in the sky was truly shining brightly.

That big pot must have suffered because of the full moon; otherwise, it wouldn't have ended up like this. I wonder what the full moon dragged out from under the water.

There was no movement to be seen ahead, but as the moon gradually emerged from the shadows, the entire cloud layer became much clearer.

"Isn't this the work you did?"

Huang Dazhang raised doubts, unable to see any flaws in the case.

The way they make Zha Aoshan is so realistic that it feels fake. Those in the know can spot the flaws at a glance.

"Would you please take a look at the river?"

The boy said with a wry smile.

Upon hearing the boy's words, Chief Huang frowned and looked down into the water, only to find that there was no reflection of the moon underwater; it had all been swallowed up by the eddies.

"My goodness, what is this thing?!"

The more violently the underwater whirlpool spun, the more violently the attached planks of the boat rocked.

The people on the deck nearly lost their footing and stumbled to the ground. The altar master, seeing this, burst into laughter. Before he could react, the thug stabbed him in the buttocks.

Blood gushed out immediately, startling him so much that he trembled involuntarily. He had been struck in a vital spot, and that very moment could have been the end of him.

Since they still harbored the ambition of becoming immortals, they couldn't just give up halfway!

"Our ancestor has shown his face! You bunch of people, you'd all have to go into the river!"

The altar master was still laughing exaggeratedly when the token in his hand suddenly slipped, burst into flames with a whoosh, and burned to ashes.

Without the altar master's intervention, Li Feng seized the opportunity and pulled the old turtle, which was still trying to dive into the river, into the furnace.

The fire in the furnace burned even brighter, and in an instant, it burned the old turtle to ashes. A word was left behind, but Li Feng didn't have time to examine it. He only saw the clear sky suddenly change.

Dark clouds, whipped by the wind, brought a deluge of rain. The raindrops, the size of soybeans, stung painfully against the skin, and the air seemed to carry miasma that burrowed into every acupoint.

Even such a large expanse of dark clouds could not obscure the full moon; it was as if the moon was surrounded by stars, allowing its bright moonlight to shine down.

The whirlpools in the river grew larger and larger. At first, there were only a few whirlpools spinning together, but gradually these whirlpools intertwined and formed a large whirlpool with the jar at its center.

The pull from the whirlpool had increased considerably, dragging the boat slowly downwards. The pitch-black water below resembled a gaping maw, seemingly about to swallow the boats in succession.

Li Feng was anxious. He was well aware of the danger of the current situation. He remembered that when Da Zhiguo went down into the tomb, a similar scene had occurred. He had just taken something from the tomb when he was suddenly pulled back, but somehow the river spat it out again.

The altar master was still laughing loudly, looking like he was about to ascend to heaven and become an immortal, shouting, "Ancestor, you have finally shown your power! Quickly take it to all of us disciples and grand-disciples! Even grabbing the dragon's tail can help us cross the Heavenly Gate!"

The sight of that man made Li Feng's teeth itch with hatred. Just as he was pondering how to escape, the murderous knife in his hand was reluctantly summoned and stuck into the ship's pillar next to him to stabilize his position.

"Good heavens, it looks like the Dragon King is going to eat people!"

As soon as Chief Huang uttered those words, the handsome young man beside him glared at him and hurriedly corrected himself, "It's a monster from the river, a monster from the river!"

Mr. Lin slumped to the ground, muttering to himself, "It's over. Another losing proposition. I've lost everything! I should have saved up!"

"The patriarch doesn't grant me food, nor do I have the fortune to receive offerings. Since this incident, I've made a solemn oath, swearing to..."

Before he could finish speaking, a bolt of lightning rolled across the sky and crashed down, giving Mr. Lin quite a fright.

The whirlpool below was churning, and the ship, unable to bear the weight, was cracking and about to be carried downstream.

"We need to think of something quickly, or we're all going to die here!"

Huang Dazhang shouted at Li Feng, but he was helpless at the moment, and everyone could only stare at Li Feng and try their best.

Li Feng smiled wryly, knowing he didn't have that much ability and how could he muster any strength in the face of this natural disaster.

Just watching the altar master make one's teeth itch with anger, waving his arms and legs like a madman, Li Feng, on tiptoe, was only concerned with keeping himself steady, using the fire in the furnace to climb upwards. But the fire was burning fiercely, and his physique was not strong enough. A wave of dizziness surged up, and he almost fell down.

At least they had climbed higher. The ships in that row had already been swallowed up by the waves, and the few remaining people were clinging to the higher ground, dodging the waves and constantly watching the sky, fearing that lightning might strike and take their lives!

Looking down from the higher vantage point, the surging river below resembled a dark pupil, fixed intently on Li Feng.
