America: The Gear-Up Detective

Chapter 53 Arrest and Interrogation

Of course, there is another important piece of evidence: the message on the back of the photo.

"Love You, Johnny"

Everyone present had read through the previous files more than once.

Everyone remembers what Linda wrote in her statement: "While we were having a good time, a tall man who called himself Johnny came over..."

Johnny, according to Daisy Ford, is the name of a golden retriever she owned as a child.

The friendly golden retriever was Daisy's best playmate when she was a child. After the dog passed away, she added the name "Johnny" to her boyfriend Carrie's name.

On the one hand, we wanted to change Kerry's personality from being aloof to being as enthusiastic as a golden retriever;

On the other hand, this is also a source of fun for the two young lovers. Similarly, this is something only Daisy and Carrie know.

Under the influence of the [Bewitch] skill, Daisy is unlikely to lie, and she doesn't seem like someone who has received professional training or has a strong will.

Therefore, this is yet another strong piece of evidence.

At 1 p.m., Connor walked into the office with an arrest warrant and a search warrant.

"We can begin!"

......

108 Alameda Street, Central City East.

This is a low-rise bungalow in a famous slum in Los Angeles.

The surrounding environment was messy, and several homeless people were lying not far away. When they saw Rod and the patrol officers who came to help, they ran away on their own.

Closer still, there stood several distorted "folded figures," standing still with their eyes closed, seemingly oblivious to everything around them.

Rhodes glanced at it twice and then paid no more attention. This was a unique sight in America, one he had seen before in his memory.

There was no neat and clean lawn in front of the house, only various kinds of litter scattered around, which blended perfectly with the surrounding environment.

Rod, Hank, and the patrol officers behind them stood on either side of the door frame, and then Rod reached out and knocked on the door.

"Knock knock knock..."

"Carrie Emerson, this is the LAPD, open the door!"

"We have a search warrant!"

A faint sound came from behind the door, then the door opened, and a blond, slightly overweight white man looked at the policeman in front of him.

"Lapd? I haven't provoked anyone during this time," the man said.

Ignoring his reaction, Rhodes held the arrest warrant up to his face. "Kerry Emerson, you are under arrest for allegedly kidnapping and murdering Sophia Grant."

You have the right to remain silent...

"What? This is ridiculous! You can't..."

Kerry Emerson was very excited.

Then two police officers stepped out from behind Rod and handcuffed Kerry.

Then Rhodes produced another search warrant and placed it in front of Kerry, saying, "We have another search warrant to legally search your room."

He then turned his head and signaled to the patrol officers behind him to begin a new operation.

Kerry's room was small, with a bed in the center, a TV opposite the bed, a tattered sofa not far away, and a small wardrobe against the wall at the far end.

Almost everything is visible.

Shortly after, a patrol officer pulled out a cardboard box filled with miscellaneous items while searching under the bed.

Underneath these miscellaneous items were several pieces of a little girl's clothing.

Looking at the things that shouldn't be in a homeless man's room, Hank walked up to Kerry and said, "Do you have anything to say?"

Kerry remained silent for a moment, then said, "I need to see a lawyer."

Hank sneered and ignored him.

After searching Kerry, several patrol officers took him to a police car.

Hank walked over to Rod, who was standing in the middle of the room, and scanned the surroundings with sharp eyes, as if he wanted to see through the floor and walls to find new evidence.

He then said to Rod, "We have legitimate grounds to apply for an arrest warrant, but that's not enough to solidify his suspicions. His lawyers have many reasons for him to plead not guilty."

We need to find more direct evidence!

Rhodes nodded, looking at Hank. "We need to find a way to get him to confess to these crimes himself!"

......

Police station, interrogation room.

Kerry Emerson sat in a cold, metal chair, his hands cuffed. Beside him sat a white man in a suit and black-rimmed glasses, his lawyer.

Since Kerry clearly couldn't afford legal fees, the lawyer was a court-appointed public defender.

Evan and Connor sat opposite him.

Behind the large one-way mirror in front of Kerry, Rod, Hank, and the rest of Team Six stayed in the observation room, scrutinizing Kerry Emerson's every move.

Evan spoke first, "Kerry, where did you live fifty years ago?"

Kerry remained silent.

Evan looked at his lawyer, shrugged, and said, "If he continues to remain silent, we cannot move this case forward."

The lawyer looked at Kerry. "You can answer their questions. Don't worry, if they ask leading questions, I will stop this interrogation."

Evan then repeated the question, and this time Kerry answered in a slightly hoarse voice, "Fifty years ago, who remembers that?"

"Okay, it's okay if you don't remember, we've already found it, Sicamor, right?"

"I think so."

Evan continued, "Fifty years ago, a kidnapping case occurred in Sicamor that shocked the entire community."

The subsequent investigation escalated from a kidnapping case to a murder case; you might recall that, right?

"I vaguely remember it."

Evan nodded. "You should remember, after all, you were the first suspect in this case back then, weren't you?"

The lawyer standing nearby spoke up before Kerry could, "Officer, please watch your words and actions. Are you threatening my client?"

Evan shook his head, then said, "Sophia Grant, a little girl who was only seven years old, do you remember her?"

The lawyer said to Kerry, "You can refuse to answer that question."

But when Kerry Emerson heard this question, his previously gloomy expression vanished, a smile appeared on his lips, his eyes softened, and he spoke gently:

"Oh, of course, Sophia, she is a very lovely girl, oh man, she is... she is simply the cutest little girl I have ever seen."

She had big brown eyes, and every neighbor in the neighborhood liked her very much!

Connor sneered, "Now you remember where you live?"

"Yes, yes, I remember now."

In the observation room next door.

Everyone frowned as they listened to Kerry's unusual behavior and repeated use of the word "cute".

From this word, everyone keenly sensed that Kerry seemed to be expressing some unusual feelings for Sophia.
