Chapter 96 Jin Yulin (2)
Hank winked at Rod.
Rod also saw the black Tesla electric car parked in front of the garage.
According to intelligence, Kim Yu-rim also owns the same model of tram.
The two stood outside the fence.
Hank shook a bell hanging on the fence.
"Ring ring~"
A short while later, an elderly Asian man with a full head of white hair came out of the house.
The old man, dressed simply and leaning on a cane, slowly walked towards the two of them.
When they got closer, the old man seemed to finally recognize them. He spoke in a trembling voice, "I'm sorry, I came out in a hurry and didn't wear my glasses, so I didn't recognize you."
Who are you?
Rod took the police badge hanging around his neck, then, fearing the old man couldn't see it, took it off and held it up to his face.
"Sir, can you see this? Do you see this thing?"
"LAPD, isn't that a police badge?" The old man looked at the gleaming gold badge and slowly read out the letters engraved on it.
Rhodes nodded and then said, "We are detectives from the LAPD Murder and Heist Division."
My name is Rod.
The man behind him is Detective Hank.
Then, Rod asked, "Do you know Jin Yulin?"
The old man nodded. "Of course I know her. I am her father. You can call me Hank, Hank King."
Rod and Hank exchanged a glance.
Hank then asked, "Sir, may we go in? We have something very important to ask you."
"Of course, of course." Old Hank unlocked the gate behind the fence.
The two entered the courtyard.
inside the house.
As soon as Rod and his companion entered the room, they saw an old lady sitting on the sofa.
Old Hank, who came in from behind, picked up the glasses that were on the cabinet by the door, put them on, and began to introduce the two of them.
"This is my wife."
The old lady on the sofa got up and looked at old Hank with a puzzled expression. "Who are they?"
Rod then took out his police badge, explained it briefly, and got down to business.
"Detective Agency... Murder and Robbery Division..." The old lady repeated the words over and over, seemingly puzzled as to why detectives from the Murder and Robbery Division would come knocking on her door.
"I saw a Tesla parked in front of your garage? Is that your car?" Hank asked directly.
The old man with gray hair shook his head and replied, "That's my daughter's car. She's been leaving it here with us for a while now."
"Do you know where she went?"
Old Hank thought for a moment, then instead of answering immediately, asked, "Officer Hank, you've been asking me about my daughter Jin Yulin's whereabouts from the beginning. What happened to her?"
The elderly woman standing nearby, upon hearing her husband's words, realized what he meant. "You're detectives from the Murder and Robbery Division. Does that mean Yu Lin is in danger?"
Upon hearing the question, Hank shook his head and said in a deep voice, "We are not sure about your daughter's situation yet. She is involved in one of our cases, and now she is missing."
So do you know where she went?
On the side, Rod carefully examined everything in the room.
The room's layout is simple: the living room has a large sofa, and opposite it is a TV cabinet with several photos on it.
A few family photos, a few photos of my daughter and son-in-law, and other than that, mostly photos documenting my two children.
Rhodes looked closely at the most recent photo, which had a timestamp of "February 19, 2023".
It was exactly two months ago.
on the sofa.
The old man recalled, "Two months ago, Yu Lin said she wanted to relax and go on a road trip, and she had already left Los Angeles."
"Driving yourself?"
"Yes, she said the tram wasn't very convenient, so she took my old car and left her Tesla here with us."
Upon hearing this answer, Rod thought to himself, "No wonder Jose's investigation found no trace of Jin Yulin; there were no recent records of her vehicle being used."
It turns out they changed to a different car.
"What kind of car do you have?" Hank pressed.
"A white Toyota Corolla, license plate number..."
Rhodes noted down this information.
They then pressed further, "What about her two children? Didn't you look after them when she went on her road trip?"
The old lady next to her shook her head slightly, looking a little confused, and then said, "Yu Lin has had a very difficult six months since You Li passed away."
She finally wanted to get away for a while, and we told her she'd leave the kids with us, but she felt this kind of trip would be better for bonding with the children, so she brought them all with her.
Rhodes wondered, "Did you bring them all? Where did you take them?"
When did she leave Los Angeles?
"It seems to be... the end of February," Old Hank replied.
Did she say anything to you before she left, or take anything with her?
"Or, do you think there was anything strange about her at the time?" Hank pressed.
The two elderly people were lost in memories.
Later, Hank, who was in better spirits, replied, "She didn't say much that day, just that she might have to leave with her two children for a while."
Oh, right, I remember now, Yu Lin was also carrying two large black suitcases.
The suitcase was quite heavy at the time, so I helped her move it from the Tesla to the back seat of the Toyota.
This should be considered a strange thing, right?
After all, this family of four had never brought so much stuff on a previous trip.
"Two very heavy suitcases?"
Hank was stunned, looking at the two elderly people sitting on the sofa, not knowing what to say.
Rod thought for a moment, took out his phone, pulled up a photo, handed it to old Hank, and tentatively asked, "Are those the two black suitcases?"
Old Hank took the phone, adjusted his glasses, and stared at it for a while.
"It does seem so, it does look very similar."
Rod didn't know what to say.
According to old Hank, the two children were probably already inside when he helped move the suitcases.
After hesitating for a moment, Rod still didn't tell the two elderly people about the suitcase, and Hank naturally didn't say anything more either.
After all, until conclusive evidence is found, perhaps the suitcase contained only ordinary luggage?
"When Jin Yulin came to change cars, didn't you see the two children?" Rod could hear that Hank's voice was trembling slightly.
The two elderly people did not notice anything unusual about Hank.
After a brief recollection, she replied, "Yu Lin said she needed to buy some things for the trip, so she left the two children at her house first, and planned to pick them up together and leave after she finished shopping..."
Hank nodded.
They asked some more questions about Jin Yulin, and then the two prepared to leave.
Before leaving, Rod pointed to a photo of the children on the TV cabinet, dated two months ago, and said, "The two children... look very cute."
Old Hank smiled, his face revealing an indescribable pride. "Yes, two months ago, it was my birthday, and we got together."
The two children even sang me a birthday song; they're such adorable kids!
After hesitating for a moment, Hank asked again, "Haven't you contacted Jin Yulin in the past two months?"
"Of course, we call her every now and then, but the call can never be connected."
But that's normal. Isn't this how signals are in America all the time? Maybe they're in some remote place?
Old Hank answered with a chuckle.
After escorting the two men to the fence, Old Hank hesitated for a moment before asking, "Officers, you've asked so many questions about Yu Lin... and the two children."
Did something happen to them?
Rod didn't know how to answer.
Beside him, Hank thought for a moment and replied, "The case is still too chaotic at the moment. We will inform you once we have solid evidence."
The two turned and left.
Old Hank stood behind the fence, and the old lady also walked to the door, leaning on the door frame, her eyes filled with unease as she watched the two leave.
"What exactly happened?"
