America: The Gear-Up Detective
Chapter 99 Interrogation
Chapter 99 Interrogation
The final result was somewhat unexpected by Rhodes.
Rhodes initially thought that since Kim Yu-lin had been on the run all the way, and there were very few surveillance cameras on Highway 66, plus Connor had only contacted the task force yesterday to enter her information into the FBI's National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database.
Even if there is a result, it won't be quick; it will take at least three or four days.
The next morning, as soon as Rod arrived at the detective agency, he received a call informing him that Hank and Jose had gone on a business trip to Chicago.
"Actually, I received Jin Yulin's message last night."
Connor explained the situation to the group, "I arranged for Hank and Jose to go to Chicago first thing this morning."
Anna couldn't help but ask, "How did we know she was in Chicago?"
With an barely suppressed smile on his face, Connor explained to the two in a strange tone, "Three days ago, Jin Yulin was arrested by the Chicago police for multiple speeding offenses, theft, and assault."
Last night, the task force had just entered Jin Yulin's information and arrest warrant into the NCIC database when our police system received the message.
Upon hearing this news, Rod shook his head helplessly. "He was arrested three days ago... We've been racking our brains trying to find Jin Yulin's whereabouts..."
The United States has more than 18000 independent law enforcement agencies at the federal, state, county, and city levels, each with its own jurisdiction, system, and standards. Each state also has its own independent criminal record system.
Other law enforcement agencies have neither the obligation nor the technical interface to proactively push information from their jurisdictions to other agencies.
For example, if you are arrested by the police in New York or Chicago, the New York Police Department or the Chicago Police Department has no obligation or channel to inform the Los Angeles Police Department, even if the perpetrator is wanted in Los Angeles or California, because other police departments cannot find the perpetrator's criminal records in other states.
Unless, as is the case now, the killer's information has been entered into the National Crime Information Center, the Los Angeles Police Department will not receive news that Jin Yulin has been arrested.
"Since Jin Yulin was only charged with speeding and theft in Chicago, which are minor offenses, while he committed a serious murder in Los Angeles, the Chicago police were happy to cooperate with us."
"I estimate that Hank and the others will be able to bring Jin Yulin back by tomorrow morning."
Connor leaned against his office desk, letting out a sigh of relief. This case had been driving everyone crazy lately, but now they were finally about to catch the murderer.
From morning until noon, Rod and Anna began to organize the information and clues they had at hand.
There are still many missing parts in the case file, such as the suspect's confession and motive.
But I estimate it will be available tomorrow.
In the afternoon, I finished organizing the materials I had on hand.
Rhode started slacking off, pondering the equipment information he had previously obtained from the system: [Appearance Information: Semi-transparent protective film]
The specific function of this equipment is still unknown. Rhode is wondering whether he should spend the money on this so-called "semi-transparent protective film" if the mission reward includes "equipment information".
After thinking for a while, I chatted with Liu Qingxi for a bit.
The day passed just like that.
The next day, Rod got up before the alarm clock rang.
After a quick wash, I ate a couple of bites of breakfast.
Rod drove to the police station.
As expected, Jin Yulin was brought to the police station in the early hours of this morning.
He is currently in the detention room.
After waiting for a while, everyone arrived.
Connor began preparations. Since Hank and Jose had only returned in the early hours of the morning, the interrogation would be conducted by Connor and Rod.
Rhodes was not surprised by this arrangement. He was quite familiar with the case files and Jin Yulin's criminal process. He then nodded.
Inside the interrogation room.
Jin Yulin, with disheveled hair, red and swollen eyes, and a look of unease on her face, was handcuffed to the interrogation chair.
The air conditioner in the interrogation room was blowing cold air, and Jin Yulin shifted uncomfortably.
Behind him, the door to the interrogation room opened.
Connor entered the interrogation room first, followed closely by Rod. The two walked slowly to the interrogation table and looked at Jin Yulin.
"Ms. Kim, do you know why we brought you here?"
Rhodes asked the question, but at this moment he did not choose to use [Bewitchment].
He wanted to see what kind of performance this wicked mother could put on to deceive the police.
Jin Yulin stared at the two people in front of her with bloodshot eyes, her voice hoarse, "NO, NO. What did I do wrong?"
Connor snorted and then gestured for Rod to show the photos.
Two black suitcases;
Two bodies, completely wrapped in cling film and plastic bags:
Two dismembered, severely decomposed corpses exposed to the air.
These six photos were prominently displayed in front of Jin Yulin.
"Is there anything you want to say?" Rod asked in a deep voice.
"I don't understand, what does this mean?" Jin Yulin's eyes darted around, not daring to look directly at the photos on the table, but he still remained stubborn.
"have no idea?
"Okay, before I explain these photos, I have one more question for you." Connor's tone was filled with barely contained anger. "Where are your two children?"
Jin Yulin slumped in the interrogation chair, her hands trembling. The cold chair seemed to steal her body heat, and her face turned pale. Her lips moved slightly, and after muttering a few words, Luo De thought that Jin Yulin was about to confess.
"Lawyer, I need to find a lawyer! I won't say anything until my lawyer arrives!" Jin Yulin roared almost frantically.
Rod shook his head in disappointment. He saw no remorse on Jin Yulin's face, only fear when the police presented evidence.
Connor laughed in exasperation. "A lawyer? Of course! But even a lawyer can't save you!"
An hour later, the lawyer arrived.
Jin Yulin was shivering from the cold.
"Are you abusing my client?" The lawyer in a suit and tie started nitpicking as soon as he entered the interrogation room.
Of course, strictly speaking, this doesn't count as nitpicking, because it was intentional.
"The temperature in Los Angeles has been rising recently, and it's quite hot. We're also worried that the suspect might suffer from heatstroke," Connor explained perfunctorily.
The two then avoided each other and began to have Jin Yulin's lawyer discuss the matter with her.
Shortly after, the lawyer opened the interrogation room door, and Rod and Connor re-entered the interrogation room.
Jin Yulin seemed much calmer.
"Now, is there anything else you'd like to add?" Rod asked.
"My client is not in a good mental state, and I will relay all the questions from now on to the police."
Rod shrugged indifferently. No matter how proficient you are in law or how rich your experience is, you can't prevent your clients from falling into the trap of "bewitching".
If the suspect doesn't answer questions himself and only has his lawyer relay them, that's certainly a big problem.
But if Rhodes has "bewitchment," then it's a different story. The suspect said it himself, and there was even a lawyer present. What can you do?
