Chapter 19 The Enslaved Demon
Want to try it?
Once the thought popped into my head, I couldn't put it down.
He cultivates inner vision, focusing on introspection of the physical body. If one uses visualization diagrams with this method, one can visualize ghost generals within one's own inner vision, thereby imagining the ghost generals and even simulating some of their abilities.
The *Huangting Neijing Jing* is a secret text of the Eastern Flower Kingdom. It is truly the essential secret of learning immortality and the foundation of ascension to heaven. With a rough understanding of visualization, one can create myriad spirits and simulate one form.
The ancient Dawei Weng said: "I was born with a body, I worry about my toil, I think of my hunger and thirst, and I indulge my desires. Then, I will suffer from transgressions and lose the way of the profound transformation. This is the secret teaching that Guangchengzi obtained when he described the essential way of the ancient immortals. Therefore, the Great Yellow Emperor carefully focused his mind and spirit, contemplated the primordial energy to open the profound principles, first calmed the elixir, contemplated nature, and merged into tranquility."
This refers to the inner vision passed down from ancient times. Its main method is to visualize external things within one's own body, achieving "visualizing nature, merging into stillness, shaping all things, and simulating one form."
The Dharma of Observation is truly wondrous.
Of course, this is just one way to use interior landscaping.
The world is vast, and other methods of contemplation also have their merits. Using different visualization diagrams can lead to a variety of applications, but that's not what Zhao Yunshu is thinking about now.
This method is extremely dangerous—if the object being observed is far superior to one's own cultivation level, the inner vision is easily assimilated by it, which can lead to a drastic change in temperament or even demonic possession.
When the old Taoist priest passed on this method to him, he repeatedly instructed him to "visualize as if taming a tiger" and similar phrases.
How does he compare to the Ghost General?
Last night's victory over the ghost general was three parts due to the talisman, three parts due to my own thunderous voice, three parts due to favorable timing and location, and one part was purely luck.
If another opponent of equal strength to the Ghost General were to appear, he wouldn't have a second set of protective talismans or demon-repelling talismans, and the opponent's weakness might not be Lei Yin.
But having many skills is never a burden, as the old Taoist priest often said. Besides, this yellow book was his greatest secret, and since it contained visualization diagrams, wouldn't it be a waste not to study it thoroughly?
Zhao Yunshu weighed his own abilities.
Although he was young, his inner vision was already quite solid, and he was not lacking in courage—it was courage that he had truly trained. In addition, he had fought a real battle with the ghost general last night and killed him. Now, he was only facing a portrait, which was not more dangerous than facing the real person.
Thinking of this, he took a deep breath, closed his eyes, concentrated, and immersed himself in the inner world.
This time, instead of observing his own internal organs, he imprinted the image from the yellow book into his inner vision.
When the visualization image is imprinted into the interior scene, it's as if you've stepped into another world.
He stood on an ancient battlefield.
The sky was a dark red, like a tattered rag soaked in blood. Beneath my feet lay layers upon layers of corpses, stretching all the way to the horizon. Torn flags fluttered in the wind, broken spears stood like a forest, and in the distance, the sound of drums beat slowly and mournfully.
He felt a chill run through his body. The setting sun was like blood, broken halberds lay scattered on the sand, and three thousand corpses lay strewn across the entire valley. At the highest point of the mountain of corpses, a general clad in gleaming armor stood proudly, leaning on a broken spear. He was covered in blood, his eyes wide with fury, staring intently at him.
The demon general was so ferocious that this visualization perfectly depicted it. At this moment, when one visualized it, it was as if the demon general had been resurrected and reappeared in front of Zhao Yunshu!
Zhao Yunshu was so shocked by the ghost general's imposing presence that his body trembled.
His consciousness was completely immersed in his inner world, in the obsession and anger of Zhou Heng in his last moments before his death.
He did not resist the visualization diagram, which was the wrong approach and had already been corrected by his master.
To observe the divine through the divine, and to understand the meaning through the intention.
The essence of Vipassana meditation, which involves visualizing external things entering the body, is not about resistance; otherwise, how could a person resist the entire universe?
Only by understanding can one transcend it and make it one's own.
He relaxed his mind and let the killing intent of the battlefield wash over him.
A chilling aura engulfed him like a tidal wave, and countless sounds roared in his ears—the mournful neighing of warhorses, the screams of soldiers, the clanging of swords against each other, and the furious roar of the ghost general when he shouted "Kill the traitors!"
He felt his consciousness begin to tremble, and the light in his inner vision began to flicker.
This is the most dangerous aspect of visualization—if one's concentration is insufficient, one's soul will be scattered by these external evil energies, turning into a walking corpse. If one goes astray, one's mind will also be affected by them, and one's temperament will change drastically.
The idea of depicting the ghost general directly within the interior landscape carries a certain danger.
But his foundation in interior landscape design is ultimately solid.
He had been tempering his courage and inner strength, and when he sensed the invasion of the enemy, a deep, muffled roar erupted. Zhao Yunshu controlled his courage and energy to burst forth, like a series of thunderclaps resounding within his body!
Thump! Rumble!
The sound instantly dispelled the chill from his limbs and bones. The flickering light in his inner vision stabilized again, and the energy of his five internal organs shone steadily like five bright lamps amidst the raging tide of malevolent energy.
Once this hurdle was overcome, things went much more smoothly afterward.
When you visualize a picture, what you're really looking at isn't the physical objects, but rather the deeper meaning contained within it—the underlying principles and trajectory of the Dharma.
The most striking element in this visualization is undoubtedly the white bones visible amidst the red light.
He could sense the gaze of the ghost general in the visualization diagram. The red gaze revealed a trace of the White Bone Contemplation—it was an old general who had survived countless battles, watching his flesh and blood rot inch by inch, watching his bones be exposed one by one, yet he felt no fear, only peace.
The essence of the White Bone Contemplation is not about killing people outward, but about looking inward at oneself.
The true foundation of the White Bone Contemplation lies in the fearless and undaunted state of mind that confronts death directly; the external application of decaying flesh and blood is merely a secondary use of it.
However, although the painting is detailed, it is still too difficult to comprehend a new method of contemplation from a single image. To think that one can understand it after just a few glances at the painting would be to disregard the centuries of cultivation of the artist. However, this image contains far more than just the ability to contemplate the white bones.
Therefore, Zhao Yunshu turned his attention to other parts of this visualization painting.
His attention shifted from the ghost general's dark red eyes to a closer look at the brushstrokes in the portrait.
In the painting, the ghost general's left hand rests on his knife, while his right hand is loosely open, with his five fingers slightly bent and his palm facing down, as if he is holding something.
Zhao Yunshu stared at the hand for a long time, recalling the scene in front of the cave last night—when the ghost general raised his hand, the hundred ghosts obeyed his command as if it were their own limbs, advancing and retreating in an orderly manner like an army in formation. Mountain goblins climbed branches, ghost riders lined up, walking corpses pounced on faces, and ghost flames patrolled the sky. These were definitely not spontaneous actions of the hundred ghosts, nor could these rabble have gathered together spontaneously. They were firmly controlled by some force, uniformly commanded, and each performed their own duties.
The method by which the demon general enslaves hundreds of demons—that's what he was looking for in the visualization diagram.
And now, it has been found.
