Warhammer Fantasy: I Have Total War System
Chapter 5 Burning the Tyrant
"Protect the young master!" Xing Ganqi roared, drawing his sword.
Yu Yong lined up and prepared to push upwards.
"Step back!" Li Lin shouted sternly.
Just kidding, no matter how brave Xing Ganqi is, in the system's troop list he's still just an ordinary member of the Jade Warriors.
The Ogre Tyrant Lord is a pure numerical monster; even two or three full squads of Jade Warriors would struggle to take him down. These remnants would be nothing short of suicide if they went up against him.
Giving away your last trusted elite troops like this, even if you win, it's no different from losing.
"Yi Ge! Spell!" Li Lin called out but received no response. He turned around and saw that Yi Ge was in very poor condition.
Her eyes were tightly closed, blood trickled from the corner of her mouth, and her bangs were wet and stuck to her forehead.
Obviously, it won't be of any use for the time being.
How could it consume so much energy?
"Hold him back! Anyone who shows bravery will be rewarded with official rank and title!"
His words had some effect, and the old farmers' spears shot towards the tyrant like a honeycomb.
The mountain-sized ogre didn't flinch. Relying on his heavy iron armor, which could withstand artillery fire, he charged through the unarmored peasant ranks like a heavy tank.
The wooden spear pierced his belly armor, leaving only white marks, and even broke in two immediately.
It looked like the enemy was about to break through the last thin layer of infantry lines.
In a desperate situation, Li Lin, with no other option, quickly opened the system equipment menu.
Use your mind to quickly drag the newly acquired [Eternal Flame Banner] onto the peasant spearman soldier card that is currently fighting the tyrant.
In the game, this ordinary quality banner has a very ordinary effect, only providing the "fire attack" enchantment to equipped troops. The effect is to halve the healing effect received by the enemy in combat, and it can only increase damage when targeting enemies that are weak to fire.
Against heavily armored ogres that are not weak to fire, this equipment is basically useless.
However, what happened immediately overturned Li Lin's common sense about games.
The moment the battle flag took effect, clusters of eerie magical flames suddenly rose from the tips of the spears held by the 120 old farmers.
"Pfft!"
When the spear pierced the tyrant again, physical defense became meaningless.
The magical flames, like a persistent leech, seeped directly into the gaps in the rough iron armor, igniting the tyrant's flesh, hair, and the thick layer of fat beneath his large belly!
"roar--!!!"
The unimaginable, intense burning pain instantly overwhelmed the tyrant's reason.
He felt as if he were in purgatory, his internal organs were being scorched by the high temperature, and Li Lin could even see fire coming out of his eye sockets.
Never before had the tyrant encountered such a bizarre situation. He dropped his giant blade and frantically tore at and pounded his armor, trying to extinguish the flames within him.
But the more he struggled, the deeper the flaming spear that had broken inside him pierced.
Having lost its momentum, the mountain-like tyrant was quickly surrounded by two teams of old peasant spearmen.
Spear tips that blazed and spear tips that didn't blaze repeatedly pierced the tyrant's vitals from all directions.
After paying the price of more than thirty bloody lives, this cannibalistic tyrant, as massive as a mountain of flesh, was finally riddled with holes, spewing flames like a hornet's nest. Accompanied by the stench of burnt meat, it collapsed with a crash, raising clouds of dust.
As it turns out, there are differences between games and reality; for example, a person will die if burned.
Li Lin let out a long breath.
ended.
The enemy's morale was already on the verge of collapse. If their lord were to die, wouldn't they be forced to scatter and flee?
However, the sounds of fierce fighting on the periphery showed no signs of abating.
Li Lin frowned and looked at the system map, discovering that the morale of the ogre troops outside had not declined significantly.
He was stunned for a long while before he slapped his forehead and realized what was going on: "They still don't know their lord is dead!"
In the game, once the lord dies, the entire army will immediately suffer a devastating morale blow.
In reality, however, with blood and flesh flying everywhere outside the roadblock and visibility obstructed, the monsters on the perimeter had no idea that their leader had become a charred corpse.
"Borrow his sword and spear!" Li Lin immediately drew his sword, pointed it at the corpse on the ground, and shouted, "Cut off his head! Lift it up with a spear!"
"Yes, sir!"
Xing Ganqi commanded Yu Yong, and after much effort, they finally severed the huge, charred head. Then, they tied two spears together and strung the tyrant's head on them.
With a wave of his hand, Li Lin led his personal guard Yu Yong to climb onto the high platform of the roadblock and held the tyrant's head high.
The enormous head, its eyes wide open in death and still emitting black smoke, instantly drew the attention of everyone present, friend and foe alike.
On the system map, the red markers representing the enemy forces suddenly turned completely white.
"Clang!"
It's unclear which ogre was the first to drop its club, but soon after, the army collapsed like a house of cards.
The ogres let out mournful howls, and those that could escape turned their massive bodies around and scrambled away towards the Mountains of Sorrow.
Some soldiers, deeply entangled in the Yu Yong infantry lines, were unable to escape and had no choice but to kneel and surrender.
The afterglow, like blood, spilled onto the broken compass cart.
A bloody ambush that was originally destined to fail was completely reversed within half an hour.
"You won?"
The victory came too suddenly. The expressions of the onlookers gradually changed from confusion and disbelief to the joy of surviving a disaster, exhaustion, and collapse.
However, Li Lin showed no joy as he looked at the large number of fleeing Naobula and the still numerous ogre bull warriors, who numbered in the hundreds.
He's just a gamer who doesn't know anything about military strategy.
Even so, he was clearly aware that the crisis was far from over.
The enemy still numbers over a thousand, and the core ogre force has not suffered significant losses, so they will inevitably launch another attack.
His caravan couldn't stay confined to this small area indefinitely.
Roughly estimated, the caravan was left with less than 500 loyal Jade Warriors and Shields, all of whose ranged units had been killed, and all of their artillery equipment had been destroyed.
The next battle will not only involve dealing with ogres, but also protecting a supply corps of a thousand men; victory will be virtually impossible...
At this moment, four fully armed Jade Warrior cavalry units suddenly charged into the battlefield from the direction the caravan had come from.
They charged toward Naobulahai, their heavily armored warhorses like bulldozers, crushing everything in their path and leaving behind a trail of green wreckage, smashed into a bloody pulp.
In the system map, seven or eight weak units, each with only a hundred men left, disappeared without a trace within ten minutes.
Alright, the threat of the cannibals should be considered resolved now.
"Young Master! There's a message from another caravan!" an apprentice who was helping to operate the Five Elements Compass ran over and said.
Li Lin walked back to the illusory sand table, where rows of ancient characters were appearing:
"Your Excellency, the Dragon Descendant, I am Yu Chengyou, the Trade Commissioner of Shangyang."
"Dong Yan, the lord of Shangyang City, took advantage of the fact that the imperial court was empty when the emperor went south, and led the gentry and rebellious officials to plot a rebellion. The western provinces have already fallen, and the border general Cai Zhiyuan is leading a large army to besiege this place."
"A mutiny has also occurred in Nanli ahead. The military commissioner Li Suguang has been defeated and killed. The army has been occupied by the troops of Han Cheng, the rebel king of Nanyang. The vanguard is currently fighting the Biaolong troops at the front of the Sulfur Road."
"With tigers in front and wolves behind, we cordially invite Your Excellency, the Dragon Descendant, to accompany us in our campaign to punish these treacherous officials."
