Chapter 77 Tiria and the Border Prince (1)
Li Lin remained expressionless.
Compared to the charge of the stone horned beasts, this kind of demonstrative intimidation tactic is child's play.
"Are you mercenaries employed by Golfag?" Li Lin directly exposed their identities.
A hint of surprise flashed across the one-eyed ogre's face. He lifted his thick eyelids and looked Li Lin up and down again.
"Not many people here can tell the difference between us. What, you know our boss?"
Li Lin nodded.
That's not true.
I not only know your boss, but I've also messed with him. So, rounding up, I'm practically your boss.
"I've heard rumors about him, especially the part about how he was imprisoned by the Dwarf King and then ate all his men."
The one-eyed ogre scratched his hairy forehead, seemingly completely taken aback by Li Lin's detailed knowledge, and appeared somewhat bewildered.
Li Lin continued, "Why did you come here? And where is the infamous Golfag the Man-Eater now?"
"We separated from the boss more than ten years ago and came to the east to make money." He tucked the razor into his waistband, straightened up, and said, "But things are about to get chaotic here, and the boss will most likely be coming over."
Good heavens, if Golfag himself really comes, then Aurora will definitely be in an uproar.
He licked his thick lips, glanced at Li Lin's expensive clothes several times, and suddenly softened his tone, recounting their experiences over the years: "In the first few years, we were mercenaries among the various tribes in the Mourning Mountains. We fought whoever was paid enough, whether it was ogres, greenskins, or dwarves."
"Later, after entering the pass, I was paid by a human who was a dragon to work as a servant in Ashsha Tower, where I fought against the tin cans that kept pouring out of the mountains every day."
"If you stay there long enough, you'll start saying everything, won't you?"
He shrugged, his fat jiggling. "Those were the good old days."
"They have endless meat to eat, unlimited money to take, and nobody cares about them."
"Unfortunately, every ruler eventually falls from power, even dragons are no exception."
"After that dragon fell, we worked for the new lord for a while, hoping to have some fun. Who knew that the old bastard had no intention of paying us and even tried to swindle us out of our lives, so—"
He grinned maliciously, revealing a set of sharp, yellowish-black teeth: "We caused quite a ruckus and ended up here."
"This place is really unpleasant. It's strictly managed, and there are few people willing to hire us. The prices offered are all incredibly stingy, and they don't even include meat."
He patted his filthy blue robe, saying meaningfully, "These big guys here look big, but they're not very filling."
"If you keep starving like this, haha, I can endure anything but hunger, don't you think?" His "kind" smile was full of threat.
Li Lin sensed the hidden meaning in his words and calmly waited for him to finish speaking.
"You see, it takes a lot of brainpower. I don't usually talk to people this much." The one-eyed ogre took a half step forward, letting out a low laugh. "But you look like a rich man, and you look like you need bodyguards."
"
"Would you mind hiring us, Your Excellency, the nobleman of Aurora?"
He paused, then turned his head and gave a wink: "Otherwise..."
'
The ogres behind him immediately grinned maliciously, bringing their knives and hooks to the unconscious staff member in the corner, the tips of the knives aimed straight for his neck.
The Golfaggars, though strong, have a major problem: they are unruly and have extremely poor discipline.
Their stories are nothing more than being hired as laborers to fight in a war, discovering that something inedible or a person there is exceptionally delicious, bragging about it, and then being hunted down or exiled by the ruler, thus endlessly repeating this cycle.
Li Lin didn't waste any words with the one-eyed man.
With a wave of his hand, a rental shop appeared out of thin air in front of him.
When the cabinet door was opened, it shone with golden light.
The hundred dragon-shaped plaques cast in gold illuminated the entire torn iron barracks.
Several ogres who were about to strike froze in mid-air, their eyes seemingly about to pop out, fixed on the exquisitely carved amber-colored horseshoe-shaped gold ingots.
The one-eyed ogre's knife clattered to the ground, his jaw slightly agape, and saliva dripped onto the ground with a "plop plop".
"In a few hours, I will be fighting a battle," Li Lincheng might explain in simple terms, "three hundred men against three hundred men."
"This is your reward. If you perform well on the battlefield, I will double it."
He paused, giving the dim-witted ogres time to process: "And we're considering employing you long-term; the pay will only be higher than today's."
After he finished speaking, he waited for the cannibal's reaction.
But everyone seemed to be bewitched and remained motionless for a long time.
Until Li Lin suddenly slammed the cabinet shut.
All the ogres then shuddered as if they had just finished their incantation, and dazedly regained their senses.
The one-eyed ogre was the first to come to his senses. He rushed forward, picked up the unconscious staff member from the corner, and presented him to Li Lin with both hands.
"Great! Uh—"
"Li Lin, the military commissioner of Nanli."
"The great Southern Li Military Commissioner Li Lin!" the one-eyed ogre shouted, spitting all over Li Lin as he spoke.
Oh no, I'll have to take a shower and do laundry when I get home today.
"As long as you provide enough gold coins and plenty of food and drink, there is no enemy in this world we cannot defeat!"
His eyes darted around, and he immediately added, "No, I don't want those ordinary gold coins, I want your beautiful, shiny gold."
Li Lin nodded and asked him, "How many of you are there?"
"Thirty-two!" the one-eyed ogre thumped his chest. "Two squads! I'm the leader, my name is Lute!"
Li Lin pushed the rental cabinet over.
Lute caught it in one swift motion, as if afraid Li Lin might change his mind.
He opened the cabinet door, reached in and grabbed a handful of gold bars, which slipped through his fingers and clattered back into the cabinet.
He picked one up, rubbed it greedily a few times, and then brought it to his lips and kissed it hard.
"Leave it to me, don't worry." Lute grinned at Li Lin, revealing a mouthful of yellow teeth. His smile was both ferocious and satisfied.
Li Lin instructed them to assemble outside the barracks and wait for him to return so he could call them to leave.
As he dragged his unconscious staff member out, he heard the ogres behind him screaming in alarm.
"My goodness! This is real gold!"
"Yeah! Wow! Look at this texture, this luster! What kind of junk were we collecting before!"
"Write it down! Write it down right now! Who owes us money? From now on, they'll have to pay us with this kind of gold! I'll find those yellowish-brown gold coins disgusting to look at again!"
Li Lin sent the unconscious staff member back to the Dragon Palace and telepathically summoned two military doctors to take care of him.
He then took the roster and walked alone into the depths of the mercenary district.
This area is a melting pot of all sorts of people.
Disheveled Westerners lay sprawled on the roof of the slowly moving carriage, legs crossed, looking utterly nonchalant.
Weapons and equipment were either carried on their backs or placed beside them, wrapped in coarse linen like urea bags.
Many people also whispered prayers to their religious pendants, idols, or the pastors in the procession.
Some of them were chanting "Sigma" or "Yurik" in their mouths.
There are also pronunciations like "Esun" and "Daz".
Li Lin even saw several dwarf butchers with rooster-like haircuts praying to the rock statues of Grimnir.
What the heck? Why is the Dwarf Butcher in Zhen Dan?
Units that never lose a battle are considered useless in games due to their extremely high casualties, but in reality, a force that can risk its life to achieve strategic objectives is every general's dream team.
He had just considered recruiting these butchers when he saw a strange light flash in the eyes of these dwarves as they looked at Mo Shi Jin Fu, and they began to reach for the two-handed axes behind their backs.
Terrified, Li Lin quickly rode Jinfu away.
