Warhammer Fantasy: I Have Total War System
Chapter 8 Military Discussion
In the early morning, sunlight streamed through the glass windows on the car roof and fell on Li Lin's face.
He fumbled around beside him for two or three seconds, but instead of finding the familiar plastic shell, he bumped into the cold bronze wall.
He sat up abruptly.
Dark copper walls, a five-element compass suspended in the air, and a faint scent of ancient sandalwood in the air.
Not a dream.
Everything I experienced yesterday—the cannibals, the flying gore, the system interface—was all real.
That means...
Li Lin quickly bent down to check his body, feeling excited.
Nothing happened.
Yi Ge's voice came from deep inside the carriage, startling Li Lin.
She was wearing the same black armor she had worn when we first met, and was squatting in a corner without turning her head, setting up some kind of small alchemy workbench.
"After you fainted, I carried you to the bed, and that was all..."
"Don't blow up my car," Li Lin interrupted her.
Although losing one's virginity is a matter of concern, the safety of the command center is definitely more important than the minor issue.
Yi Ge froze, slammed the parts in his hand onto the table with a "bang," and turned around, saying with a hint of anger:
"Do you take me for one of your lowly apprentices?"
"Well......"
Suddenly, a knocking sound came from outside the car door.
"Young Master! Commander Yu requests that you move to the central command tent to attend the joint meeting!" Xing Ganqi's voice rang out.
Li Lin quickly dressed in civilian clothes and fled the truck as if escaping.
Just as dawn was breaking, the Imperial Guards on both sides brought him flatbreads soaked in hot tea. After quickly finishing his breakfast, Li Lin followed Xing Ganqi to meet Commander Yu's messenger.
This man was dressed in heavy armor, carrying a Guan Dao (a type of halberd) and a large bow. His eyes were piercing, and he looked incredibly imposing.
He was none other than Yunmosige, one of the seventy-two most outstanding military officers in all of Zhen Dan.
"Commander Yu requests that Young Master Li move to the central military tent to participate in the joint meeting of the military commissioners."
"Thank you for your trouble, General." Li Lin bowed respectfully and accepted the bronze token with both hands.
The other party nodded and rode away.
Xing Ganqi gazed at the departing figure, his longing evident in his eyes.
"Work hard," Li Lin patted his shoulder, encouraging him and promising him a bright future. "If you can get through this, you can work for me from now on. I'll promote you to be the head of my sect. If you have martial arts talent, you might even be able to compete for Yunmosige's position in the future."
"Your subordinate dares not," Xing Ganqi hurriedly bowed and clasped his hands.
Just imagining himself fighting alongside that mighty general from before filled Xing Ganqi with a sense of trepidation.
Li Lin suddenly thought of a sentence: "Longing is the emotion furthest from understanding."
With Yi Ge and two Jade Warriors in tow, Li Lin traversed most of the camp and arrived at the central command tent where Commander Yu was located.
The place was very grand, with five dragon flags from different families hanging from the top of the tent, and two rows of brightly armored Heavenly Court Dragon Guards standing at the entrance.
Li Lin left his entourage outside the tent, held the token in his hand, and entered the tent unimpeded.
Inside, incense burns in a bronze censer, and a vast, luminous sand table floats in the center of the long table.
In the main seat of the tent sat a middle-aged man in his fifties, with a thin face and a neatly trimmed goatee.
On his left and right sat two generals of the Haotian Army, clad in heavy iron armor, and a military commissioner dressed in luxurious and sleek attire.
The other two generals are presumably in charge of the overall situation in the field.
These people stared at the sand table with solemn expressions, their aura completely different from Li Lin's.
"Young Master Li, please have a seat." Yu Chengyou gestured with his hand, his tone gentle but his gaze sharp.
"Your father was defeated and fled the city. You have inherited his position and should be the new military commissioner of Nanli."
Li Lin immediately bowed and politely declined, saying, "I wouldn't dare!"
"The title of Family Military Commissioner was personally bestowed by the Dragon Emperor. I am dull-witted and have no meritorious service to match, so I am not worthy of this position."
"Besides, my father is a hundred times stronger than me. He single-handedly maintained the stability of the entire Nanli City for decades. During that time, he faced many difficulties that were no less challenging than today's situation. It is impossible for him to have died like this!"
Upon hearing this, the two military commissioners turned to look at him, both with admiration in their eyes.
Yu Chengyou nodded, not pressing further, and then asked, "Where is your wife, Wu Tamei, now?"
Wu Tamei was the name of the dragon descendant present at that time.
"Her whereabouts are unknown." Li Lin's tone was calm. "She deserted during the battle. Before that, she practiced nepotism and disrupted the command structure within the caravan. From the moment she fled yesterday, we have severed all ties and all ties."
His memory of Wu Tamei was vague, and he dared not speak carelessly. He simply brought up the fact that Wu Tamei had fled during the previous battle, determined to sever ties with her.
There was a two-second silence inside the tent.
The generals exchanged glances, their faces showing regret.
Yu Chengyou tapped his fingers lightly on the table and sighed softly, saying, "In that case, Young Master Li, why don't you rest in the side tent first? Someone will convey the results of the military council later."
This means you have to sit at the children's table.
Li Lin stood up, clasped his hands in a salute, and turned to leave.
Without arguing or saying anything unnecessary, he knew very well that he was not qualified to sit with the adults.
A dozen or so young generals and sons of the military governor were already seated in the side tent. They were all mid-level commanders from their respective armies, and their status and position were comparable to Li Lin's.
"Brother Li! Have a seat here!" Gu Ying waved to Li Lin as soon as he entered.
Li Lin walked over and sat down, looking around to identify the faces that were both unfamiliar and familiar.
Shen Du, one of the Six Gentlemen of the Southern Dipper, known as "Tianliang," comes from a military family. He sits upright with a military map in front of him, his expression serious.
Ma Mingyuan, also known as "Tian Tong," is the son of an arms dealer. His mouth never stopped; he was gesturing to the person next to him, occasionally letting out a burst of laughter.
Yue Pengrui, also known as "Tianji," is the leader of the Six Young Masters and the eldest disciple of Pei Yue. He leaned back in his chair, arms crossed, eyes half-closed, seemingly uninterested in the surrounding noise.
Everyone inside the tent was discussing their respective experiences on the sulfur road.
The atmosphere was very relaxed and carefree, with no trace of the tension that almost all of Northwest China's territory had fallen.
Those who don't know might mistake these for a group of wealthy young men out hunting for fun.
"We encountered 800 green-skinned soldiers and lost two-thirds of our supplies before we managed to shake them off."
"I fared even worse; all eight rearguard units were wiped out, not a single soldier made it back."
"At least you still have your supplies. I lost all my provisions and goods, and now I'm relying entirely on Commander Yu for help. Sigh, my father will be nagging me about it for days to come."
After everyone finished speaking, their eyes all turned to Li Lin, who had just entered the tent.
Li Lin's expression was solemn as he looked at the side quests in the system menu, having no interest in participating in the discussion.
Only when he realized that everyone in the tent was looking at him did he casually say a few words:
"My caravan was ambushed by a gang of about three thousand cannibals, and lost more than half of its members, but the supplies and goods were mostly intact."
Three thousand?
silence.
A deathly silence.
The young generals in the tent looked at each other, speechless for a moment.
A young general sitting in a corner was the first to sneer: "Three thousand men? Young Master Li, we've only encountered a maximum of eight hundred greenhorns here. Did you add an extra zero to that number?"
"The cannibalistic army must be commanded by a tyrant or a finance officer. Even if it's just three thousand weaklings, it's definitely not something an ordinary army can handle," another person said, shaking his head.
As everyone chimed in with their own opinions, the voices of doubt and ridicule grew louder and louder.
Gu Ying stepped forward at the right time to help Li Lin out of the predicament.
"Gentlemen, Brother Li has indeed led the troops with merit. This was witnessed firsthand by several members of the Lancer Battalion under Commander Yu. Before they arrived to reinforce, nearly a thousand Greenskin troops had already been killed or wounded on the battlefield. Even their leader, the Tyrant, was successfully beheaded by the Dragonborn, his body burned to a charred corpse."
His tone was confident, and his words were impeccable.
"Brother Li stabilized the situation and preserved the supplies, giving the Dragon Descendants room to maneuver. In this respect alone, you did a better job than me and most of the people here."
Upon hearing this, everyone nodded in agreement.
Everyone forgot that this guy has a dragon-descended wife, which makes sense now.
Otherwise, how could a man with a notorious reputation for being a kept man possibly win such a difficult battle?
But not everyone buys into this story.
A young general named Qian Tang, with a tentative smile, rose and clasped his hands in greeting to the crowd, then asked Li Lin with a intent gaze:
"Since Brother Li was able to protect the caravan from an attack by three thousand men, he must be well-versed in military strategy."
"I have a favor to ask—when my caravan was marching through the desert, we used the 'Heavenly Cover Formation' to deal with the ogre's frontal attacks, but the results were minimal. If Brother Li were in command, how would you adjust the proportions of the various units within the formation?"
