Five years without pregnancy means you're too weak; I remarried a powerful man and had triplets
Chapter 112 Offering with Both Hands
Shen Zhiyi was certain that Xu Zhesheng's child was not his.
But she hasn't decided when to tell the other party about it. It's meaningless to just say it verbally, but if she has a paternity report, she will have a lot more say.
......
The next few days were very fulfilling for Shen Zhiyi.
Over the weekend, she went through Lu Zichuan's film frame by frame, and even got a thorough understanding of the style and characteristics of everyone in the editing department.
On Monday, Lu Zichuan immediately assigned her to be the editing coordinator for a new project, letting her lead a team.
However, not everyone recognizes the title of chief editor.
As soon as the meeting started, the already tense meeting room turned into a bustling marketplace.
The former leader, Zhang Dong, casually propped his legs up on the table. When Shen Zhiyi spoke, he repeatedly interrupted her with sarcastic remarks. When she didn't react, he exaggeratedly smacked his lips and whistled.
As soon as he moved, the group below immediately followed suit, their whispers almost lifting the ceiling.
Shen Zhiyi didn't even lift her eyelids at first, thinking that these people were just talking nonsense.
But she only stopped writing when the noise grew more and more like a zoo opening its cages. She leaned back leisurely and watched the group of clowns perform.
When Zhang Dong saw that she had stopped, he thought she was scared and grinned smugly.
"Some people with connections, without any real skills, just keep a low profile. What's the point of holding meetings? Are we all so idle? It's a waste of time."
Zhang Dong slammed his pen on the table, his face full of disdain.
"Exactly, doesn't he know his own limitations? He climbed the ranks to become the top leader just by sleeping around? This world is a joke!"
Immediately, someone nearby echoed his sentiment.
"I heard she pushed a pregnant woman in the bathroom, causing her to miscarry. She's utterly heartless! And she acts like an elite just because she's backed by a sugar daddy?"
"What's your name again, Shen? Since you have connections, why don't you have your sugar daddy arrange a more relaxed job for you? We're just short of someone to serve tea and water, you're perfect for the job, you can sit and play on your phone all day!"
A barrage of foul language rained down on her, and no one in the entire editing room looked at her directly, as if she were some kind of filthy trash.
Shen Zhiyi didn't even raise an eyebrow.
She had experienced this malice firsthand the last time she stepped into this office.
She simply stood there quietly, her beautiful almond-shaped eyes like a scanner, etching every clamoring face into her mind.
Once the group had shouted themselves hoarse and the noise subsided, she slowly raised a half-smile to her lips.
Instead of immediately refuting her, she took a few steps and slowly walked around the long table.
She stopped in front of Zhang Dong, her voice soft but clear: "Zhang Dong, you do have some skill in handling light and shadow, and post-production is your forte. Unfortunately, besides piling on special effects, you can't seem to think of anything else. The whole film is just showing off your skills, but it has no soul."
She walked on without stopping, stopping in front of the next male editor who was still yelling: "You, the transitions are smooth, I admit that. But every time you try to show off your skills, you cut the characters' emotions and the plot logic into tiny fragments, making the audience dizzy. And you still think you're so sophisticated?"
She walked along, offering her comments as she went.
She knows everything about everything from technical shortcomings to aesthetic flaws, from work habits to career bottlenecks.
The faces that were just moments ago so arrogant now looked as if they had been slapped in the face; their smiles froze, leaving only an embarrassed blush.
"You... what nonsense are you talking about!"
Zhang Dong's face was gloomy. Even he himself might not be fully aware of his shortcomings, so how could she have pointed them out in one sentence?
Shen Zhiyi remained noncommittal, walked around the room once, and then returned to the center position in front of the projection screen.
She clicked the mouse casually, and the projector behind her lit up.
"This is a version I revised during a spare moment on Sunday afternoon."
The screen lit up, showing the rough footage that had just been criticized by everyone.
Under Shen Zhiyi's editing, the layers of light and shadow are instantly enriched, the transitions are no longer abrupt, and the rise, development, climax and resolution of the characters' emotions are handled just right.
She managed to edit ordinary footage into something with a cinematic quality.
The conference room was completely silent, except for the static of the video player.
Those faces that were just moments ago filled with disdain were now all staring intently at the screen, their eyes shifting from doubt to shock, and finally to an indescribable focus.
Faced with absolute power, any dissenting voices seem pale and powerless.
Shen Zhiyi pressed the pause button, glanced around, and spoke in a calm voice that carried an undeniable air of authority:
"Since the company gave me the chief position, it's not just for show. If you're not happy, fine, shut up and let your work speak for itself. In my opinion, whoever can edit something better than me, I'll gladly offer this position to them."
She paused, her gaze sweeping across the room like a razor's edge: "But now, until I leave, you have to obey my orders. If I hear another word that shouldn't be there..."
She turned her head and fixed her gaze on the person who had spoken the most aggressively just now. "I don't mind contacting the HR department directly and sending him to the finance department to settle his bill."
Finally, her gaze shifted to the employee who had spread the rumor that she had pushed someone, her tone turning colder: "As for the rumors about the restroom, I don't want to explain them a second time. The surveillance footage is in the server room; go see it yourself. If you dare to make baseless accusations again, I'll see you in court."
After saying that, she closed her notebook with a crisp "click".
"Did you all understand?"
The entire conference room was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. No one dared to utter another sound. Even Zhang Dong reluctantly pulled his legs back from their cross-legged position and lowered his head.
Shen Zhiyi assigned tasks to each person according to their characteristics, and after explaining all her requirements, the meeting came to an end.
Everyone in the editing room was working diligently. Shen Zhiyi, on the other hand, first read through the original film and thoroughly understood its deeper meaning before starting her editing.
Having worked in editing for so many years, the phrase "proficient and skilled" is the most fitting description for her.
But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t need to work hard.
Especially when facing Lu Zichuan, a director whose style is very different from Xu Zhesheng's, she needed to change her previous editing methods.
Therefore, she only managed to edit a small clip all morning.
At noon, it's lunch break time for the staff. There's a dedicated canteen where you can eat by simply showing your work card.
Although everyone in the team was impressed by Shen Zhiyi's words during the meeting, upon reflection, they wondered how an outsider like her could know so much about their team. Besides, she was just an editor, and editors have their limitations. Yet she had edited everyone's work so perfectly; there must have been someone guiding her behind the scenes.
No one said anything more, but they were still unconvinced.
Therefore, when they ate, everyone was in groups, but Shen Zhiyi was left alone.
Shen Zhiyi didn't care about any of that; she was there to work, not to make friends.
Eating alone eliminates the discomfort of social interaction and allows her to organize and process her thoughts while eating, which she finds quite enjoyable.
However, just after she finished eating and returned all the tableware to the designated place, she ran into Xu Zhesheng, whom she hadn't seen for several days, at the corner as soon as she stepped out.
