After getting into the car, Shen Zhiyi let out a long sigh of relief, pulled over and fastened her seatbelt, then sank into the passenger seat and rubbed her temples.

After a tense day, I can finally relax.

Lu Zichuan glanced at her out of the corner of his eye, one hand on the steering wheel, the other taking a bottle of mineral water from the car refrigerator, unscrewing the cap and handing it to her: "Thank you for your hard work."

Shen Zhiyi took the water, took a small sip, and said, "Thank you."

She paused, then turned to look at him: "Your family... didn't notice anything amiss today, right? They won't put pressure on you later, will they?"

Lu Zichuan looked straight ahead, his tone calm: "No. You did very well."

Those four simple words completely put Shen Zhiyi's mind at ease.

She hummed in agreement, leaned back in her chair, and unconsciously curved her lips into a smile.

Thankfully, it wasn't a complete disaster.

After the car had driven some distance, the carriage remained quiet for a long time.

Lu Zichuan gripped the steering wheel, his gaze fixed on the road ahead, and suddenly spoke: "When Yuan Hongsu lunged at me just now, she almost crashed into the wall. I just caught her."

Shen Zhiyi paused for a moment, then realized what he was explaining, and softly said, "Oh, I know, there's definitely nothing between you two."

Lu Zichuan glanced at her, a barely perceptible hint of expectation flashing in his eyes: "Why are you so sure?"

"If you really had feelings for her, you wouldn't have needed me to put on this act today, would you?"

Shen Zhiyi spoke as if it were the most natural thing in the world, her fingers unconsciously stroking the mineral water bottle, "Besides, you were so protective of me at the dinner table."

After she finished speaking, she herself felt that there was nothing wrong with her logic.

But she knew in her heart that there was an even more important reason she didn't say aloud.

She knew that the person he truly loved had always been Pei Jin.

Shen Zhiyi thought she had spoken frankly, but after she finished speaking, she keenly noticed that the temperature in the carriage seemed to have subtly risen a little.

The heating wasn't on, and the car windows weren't closed, but the tense chill in the air had definitely dissipated.

Lu Zichuan's lips curved into an almost imperceptible smile.

"Hmm," he responded softly, his voice carrying an emotion she couldn't decipher. "You're very smart."

As the car passed through the business district, Shen Zhiyi's gaze was suddenly drawn to a dessert shop on the side of the street.

That was Tan Gui's favorite restaurant.

"Stop!" she blurted out.

Lu Zichuan pulled over, and Shen Zhiyi got out of the car. A moment later, she returned carrying a small paper bag, with a faint milky scent on her.

Lu Zichuan watched her carefully place the bag on her lap and casually asked, "Didn't you eat enough for dinner?"

Shen Zhiyi shook her head, gently gathering the paper bag between her fingers: "It's for Meimei. She definitely won't eat well tonight without me."

Lu Zichuan's gaze fell on the bag with the logo, and he paused for two seconds before saying, "You're very good to her."

"Yes," Shen Zhiyi smiled, a soft light shimmering in her eyes, "she's my best friend."

She said it softly, but with absolute certainty, as if she were talking about something that would never change in her lifetime.

After that, the carriage fell silent again.

The car drove smoothly toward her neighborhood. The light from the streetlights slid across the windshield. Neither of them spoke again, but the tension was gone; instead, it was a silent reflection of their own thoughts.

When they arrived at the apartment building, Shen Zhiyi unbuckled her seatbelt, picked up the dessert bag, and followed Lu Zichuan into the elevator.

With a "ding," the elevator arrived at her floor.

Shen Zhiyi waved to him with the dessert in her hand: "Goodbye."

Good night. You had a hard day.

Lu Zichuan said softly.

She turned around, and there he was, standing at the elevator entrance, his figure casting a long shadow under the overhead light.

She gave him a bright smile: "Okay, goodnight. You should go to sleep early too."

The elevator doors slowly closed, and Lu Zichuan's gaze followed her figure until the doors clicked shut. Only then did he look away and press the button for the top floor.

As soon as Shen Zhiyi pushed open the door, a figure rushed straight at her.

Tan Gui was wearing a fluffy bunny pajama set with two long ears dangling from the hood.

She moved closer to Shen Zhiyi, sniffing her body and clothes like a police dog for a long time, before finally raising her eyes and squinting: "You met with Lu Zichuan again?"

Shen Zhiyi felt ticklish from the rabbit's sniff and gently pushed its head away: "Stop sniffing. Have you had dinner yet?"

Tan Gui looked her up and down suspiciously, her gaze lingering on her misty blue dress for a couple of seconds before she answered casually, "Did eating instant noodles count?"

As she spoke, her gaze swept over the instant noodle box on the coffee table that hadn't been cleared away yet, and she wrinkled her nose.

Shen Zhiyi handed over the dessert bag: "Here, I saw it on the way and just brought it for you."

Tan Gui looked down at the logo on the bag and exclaimed "Wow!" before rushing over to hug Shen Zhiyi: "Zhiyi! You're so great! I knew you wouldn't eat alone!"

She couldn't wait to open the box, scoop out a big spoonful of dessert and stuff it into her mouth, her eyes narrowing into slits with satisfaction.

He then scooped up another spoonful and held it to Shen Zhiyi's lips, pulling her to sit down on the sofa, his gossip-loving soul burning brightly:

"Tell me quickly, what did you two do today? He invited you to a banquet yesterday, and today he took you shopping for clothes. His intentions are so obvious!"

She leaned closer, winking and giving Shen Zhiyi a suggestive look that sent chills down her spine. Shen Zhiyi glared at her and said, "Don't make wild guesses."

However, Tan Gui did not stop. Shen Zhiyi had no choice but to tell her everything that had happened that day.

Tan Gui was initially enjoying her dessert, but as Shen Zhiyi talked more and more, her spoon gradually stopped, and her eyes widened until they were almost round apricot pits.

"etc!"

She suddenly stretched out her hand, making a slamming-on-the-horse gesture: "So you went to Lu Zichuan's house today? And met his whole family? Grandpa, Grandma, Parents, Elder Brother, and Sister-in-law?!"

Shen Zhiyi nodded silently.

"Holy crap!"

"Holy crap!!"

"Holy crap!!!"

Tan Gui slammed the dessert box on the coffee table with a "thud," sprang up from the sofa, and circled around Shen Zhiyi like a puppies with their fur standing on end, even her bunny-ear hat flying off: "Who would bring someone along to meet their family when pretending to be a couple?!"

"Lu Zichuan definitely has feelings for you! There's absolutely no doubt about that!"

"Shen Zhiyi, you're finished! You're really finished!!"

She twirled around excitedly, waving her arms so hard the sleeves of her bunny pajamas flapped loudly. "Everything he's doing now is to get closer to you! Once you let your guard down, he'll devour you whole!"

"..."

Seeing that her stories were getting increasingly outrageous, Shen Zhiyi reached out and grabbed her bunny hat, pulling her back to her side: "Alright, alright, stop making things up. If you keep going like this, you might as well switch careers and become a novelist, instead of being a doctor!"
