"Ding-dong"

"Ding-dong"

Just as Shen Zhiyi poured the vegetables into the pot, she heard the doorbell ring.

Her heart skipped a beat. Could it be that Xu Zhesheng had returned?

She snapped the stove off, pursed her lips, and walked out of the kitchen, clutching a gleaming kitchen knife tightly in her hand.

She gritted her teeth secretly. If she opened the door and saw Xu Zhesheng's face, she would scare him half to death even if she used this knife.

"Click."

The lock turned, and the door was pulled open a crack from the inside.

Shen Zhiyi cautiously poked out half of her furry head, like a wary rabbit.

Standing outside the door was not Xu Zhesheng, but Lu Zichuan.

Seeing her looking both terrified and soft-hearted, Lu Zichuan's eyes revealed a faint smile. His hands, with their distinct knuckles, even felt a little itchy, and he couldn't help but want to reach out and ruffle her soft hair.

"Mr. Lu? It's you?"

Shen Zhiyi's gaze first swept down warily, confirming that it wasn't the suit jacket Xu Zhesheng had just worn, before she looked up.

The moment she recognized Lu Zichuan, her tense shoulders instantly relaxed, and a look of astonishment flashed across her face.

"President Lu?" Hearing her unfamiliar address, Lu Zichuan raised his handsome eyebrows slightly and tilted his head with a half-smile.

"Uh... A-Chuan." Shen Zhiyi quickly corrected herself, a blush creeping up her ears.

Lu Zichuan then smiled slightly, satisfied.

But the next second, his gaze fell on her hands hidden behind the door, and he paused for a moment.

Shen Zhiyi looked down following his gaze and realized that she was still holding a weapon. She quickly hid the kitchen knife behind her back and explained with a dry laugh, "Uh... I was chopping vegetables just now and thought I'd just grab it."

She subconsciously didn't want to mention Xu Zhesheng, afraid that Lu Zichuan would worry.

However, perhaps due to the tension just now, or perhaps because the movement of hiding the knife was too hasty, the sharp blade "whooshed" open a bloody gash on the back of her fair hand in the chaos.

"Ah!" she cried out in pain, instinctively pulling her hand back.

"What's wrong?" Lu Zichuan's smile vanished instantly. He strode into the room, grabbed her wrist, and pulled her hand to his face.

Shen Zhiyi held out her injured hand to him, sighing with a mixture of helplessness and embarrassment: "I accidentally... scratched myself."

Lu Zichuan's brows furrowed instantly, the bright red line of blood standing out starkly against his fair skin.

"Don't move," he whispered, pulling her straight to the kitchen.

He turned on the tap with practiced ease and rinsed her hand under the cold water.

As the water carried away the blood, it also took away the burning pain.

"How could you be so careless?" His voice was low, carrying a hint of reproach, but more so, heartache.

"I wanted to hide it faster..." Shen Zhiyi muttered softly, like a child caught doing something wrong.

Lu Zichuan didn't say anything more, but just focused on treating her wound.

His slender fingers carefully avoided the edge of the wound, gently wiping away the water droplets with a clean tissue.

"Do you have any Band-Aids at home?" he asked.

"It's... in the drawer under the TV cabinet," Shen Zhiyi pointed to the living room.

Lu Zichuan released her hand and turned to get it.

But as soon as Shen Zhiyi lost his support, the stinging sensation on the back of her hand made her hiss softly.

Lu Zichuan immediately turned back, grabbed her wrist, this time holding it even tighter, as if afraid she would run away: "Don't move, I'll go get it."

He practically half-carried, half-dragged her to the living room sofa, then knelt down on one knee and pulled out a band-aid from a drawer.

He tore open the packaging, his movements incredibly gentle, and carefully applied the band-aid to her wound.

His fingertips, calloused, occasionally brushed against the delicate skin on the back of her hand, sending a slight shiver down her spine.

Shen Zhiyi looked down at him.

He is usually decisive and ruthless in the business world, but at this moment, he was so nervous about a small cut on the back of her hand that he even held his breath.

His lowered eyes were focused as if he were handling a rare treasure, and his long eyelashes cast a small shadow under his eyes.

"Alright." He breathed a soft sigh of relief, finally releasing her hand and raising his head.

The two were extremely close, so close that Shen Zhiyi could clearly see her reflection in his deep eyes and even smell the refreshing and pleasant scent of pine on him.

Her heart skipped a beat uncontrollably.

"Thank you..." She hurriedly looked away, her voice barely audible.

Looking at her bright red ear tips, Lu Zichuan unconsciously raised a gentle smile on his lips.

He stood up and casually ruffled the hair she had wanted to ruffle earlier at the door, his voice deep and affectionate:

"Don't try to scare people with a knife anymore. You won't frighten anyone; you'll only hurt yourself."

As he spoke, he subtly took off his suit jacket.

He wore a fine white shirt underneath, the loose cut of which did nothing to conceal his superior physique.

His arms were sleek and powerful. As he loosened his tie with his long fingers and casually unbuttoned his collar, his collar opened slightly, revealing his delicate collarbone and the faint outline of his pectoral muscles.

Shen Zhiyi felt her throat go dry, swallowed involuntarily, and stammered, her eyes darting around, "What...what are you doing?"

Lu Zichuan seemed oblivious to her panic, slowly and meticulously rolling up his shirt cuffs to his forearms, revealing a section of his well-defined forearms.

He turned around, his gaze falling on the back of her hand with the bandage on it, and said in a matter-of-fact tone, "Your hand is injured, I'll cook the rest of the dishes for you."

"Huh?" Shen Zhiyi was taken aback, as if she had heard something unbelievable. She quickly waved her hands, "No, no! I just got a scratch on the back of my hand. It won't affect my strength. I can cook without any problems."

How could she dare to trouble Lu Zichuan, this great Buddha, to cook for her!

"sit down."

Seeing that she was about to get up, Lu Zichuan's voice deepened slightly, carrying an undeniable air of authority: "Your hands are for holding pens, microphones, trophies, and typing on keyboards, not for chopping vegetables or washing dishes. Now that you're injured, you shouldn't touch those things at all."

"Just sit on the sofa and I'll go cook. You can just relax and wait to eat."

He gave the orders in a domineering yet gentle tone, giving her no chance to object.

Shen Zhiyi hesitated for a moment, then opened her mouth, "But..."

"You dislike my cooking?" Lu Zichuan raised an eyebrow, a mischievous glint in his eyes.

Shen Zhiyi quickly waved her hands, shaking her head vigorously: "Of course not!"

She had eaten at his house last time, and every dish was Michelin-level, even better than what she, a frequent cook, could make. How could she possibly complain?

He had already worked a full day and finally got a break, but he still had to stay and cook for her, which made her feel bad.

"Then sit still and don't move around."

Lu Zichuan stopped looking at her, turned and walked towards the kitchen, leaving behind only a casual remark, "I haven't eaten either, so consider this meal your treat using ingredients from your own home. You wouldn't be that stingy, would you?"

As he spoke, he skillfully handled the half-cooked ingredients in the pot, his movements fluid and effortless.

Then, he turned back and winked at her, a gentle smile playing on his lips.

Shen Zhiyi watched his retreating figure, and her heart suddenly warmed.

Watching his tall, upright figure bustling about in the kitchen, Shen Zhiyi unconsciously scratched her palm with her uninjured hand, her ear tips turning slightly red. She muttered softly:

"Well... thank you."
