Assistant Wang guessed correctly; Lu Zichuan did indeed take Shen Zhiyi back to his home.

His house has two bedrooms, so it's perfectly fine for Shen Zhiyi to sleep in one of them.

But he underestimated how unruly Shen Zhiyi could be when she was drunk.

I had just put my things down when I turned around and bumped into something soft and heavy.

Shen Zhiyi had her eyes half-open at some point. In the unfamiliar room, only his figure brought her peace of mind.

She instinctively tightened her arms, hanging on him like a koala, her legs wrapping around his waist and firmly resting on his hips.

Lu Zichuan froze on the spot, his breath catching in his throat.

She was completely drunk and unaware of what this position meant for the man. Their bodies were pressed tightly together, with no gaps between them, and her warm breath sprayed on his neck, carrying a damp fragrance.

He tried to pull her hand away, but as soon as he put down his left hand, his right hand immediately wrapped around it again. When he put down his right hand, his left hand wrapped around it again.

He gave up in frustration and tried to move her leg, but as soon as he touched her ankle, she frowned and muttered, "Don't move."

He stopped immediately.

Shen Zhiyi, however, seemed to have found the most comfortable nest, snuggling closer into his arms, her breath gently brushing against his neck, warm and moist, more alluring than any aphrodisiac.

Lu Zichuan's face flushed red and then paled, before he gently patted her cheek: "Zhizhi? Wake up, you haven't washed up yet..."

"Go to bed..." she mumbled, her voice as soft as if it had been soaked in water.

"Ugh..." she snorted unhappily, opened her eyes, and said with full dissatisfaction, "You're so noisy."

Then, as if to shut him up, she pressed her lips directly against his.

Unlike the accident at the barbecue stand, this time she didn't use her teeth. She simply covered his lips softly, carrying her faint fragrance, and forcefully yet gently slipped into his mouth.

Lu Zichuan froze on the spot, like a stone statue that had been suddenly doused with cold water.

The moment Shen Zhiyi's lips touched his, his mind went blank, and all his senses were focused on the touch of her lips.

He instinctively wanted to push her away.

This is instinct, the alarm sounded by reason at the last moment.

But his hand stopped halfway through its flight.

Her warm breath landed on his lips, carrying the bitterness of beer and the smoky aroma of cumin from the barbecue stand, mixed with her unique, faint fragrance.

The flavor wasn't fancy, but it was exceptionally sweet, like an invisible thread that slowly pulled back all his restraint.

His fingers hovered over her shoulder, trembling slightly.

Should I push her away, or not?

Reason tells me: She's drunk; she doesn't know what she's doing. You can't take advantage of her.

But my heart felt like it was being gripped tightly by a hand, beating heavily and erratically, pounding against my chest like a drum, and even my eardrums were buzzing.

She pressed softly against him, completely unprepared and unskilled, not even knowing that you have to open your mouth to kiss. But it was precisely this clumsiness that drove him wilder than any deliberate seduction.

Lu Zichuan closed his eyes.

Only one warm yellow wall lamp was on in the entryway, the light so dim it was as if veiled.

Occasionally, the rustling of the night wind through the treetops could be heard outside, along with the muffled sound of a car passing by in the distance, before everything returned to silence.

There was no one else in this room—no Xu Zhesheng, no Shen Ji, no one and nothing that forced her to submit.

It was just her and him.

In this unfamiliar, quiet space that belongs only to him.

His hand, which had been hovering in mid-air, finally came down. Instead of pushing her away, he gently placed it on her back.

Through the thin fabric of her clothes, I could feel the curve of her spine in my palm, segment by segment, slender and soft.

He didn't use any force; he just placed it there, as if afraid of disturbing something fragile.

His body, which was initially stiff, gradually softened.

It is not indulgence, nor is it decadence, but a kind of almost pious compromise, like a wall that is repeatedly knocked on by a drop of water until a crack finally appears.

He dared not move, dared not kiss deeply, and dared not even let his breathing become too heavy.

He simply tilted his head slightly to make the angle of the kiss more suitable, and then let her clumsily press against him, letting her warm, alcohol-scented breath gradually engulf him.

Time seemed to slow down very slowly at that moment.

He could hear his own heartbeat, heavy and clear, one beat after another.

I could also hear her, through my chest and clothes, like a small drum beating rapidly and frantically.

The two hearts, separated by a thin layer of skin and tissue, resonated at an incredible frequency.

A few seconds, or a dozen seconds.

Shen Zhiyi finally let go of him, tilted her head, and leaned back into his shoulder, as if she had accomplished something great. She rubbed against him contentedly, and her breathing became long and even again.

She fell asleep.

Lu Zichuan remained frozen for a long while before slowly opening his eyes.

His Adam's apple bobbed, and he reached up to touch his lips.

The warmth of her lips still lingered there, soft and hot, like a brand.

He looked down at the person in his arms; the dim light cast the shadows of her eyelashes on her cheeks, like two small fans.

The corners of her mouth were slightly upturned, as if she had done something good.

Lu Zichuan sighed silently, his sigh filled with helplessness, tenderness, and regret that he dared not do anything about it now.

He bent down, supporting her back with one hand and slipping the other under her knees, and lifted her up in his arms.

She was so light, like a feather, yet she weighed him down.

The door to the master bedroom was ajar. He slipped inside and gently placed the person on the bed.

Shen Zhiyi frowned the moment she touched the soft mattress, her hand twitching in the air as if searching for something.

Lu Zichuan hesitated for three seconds.

Then he leaned down and gently pressed her hand back into the blanket, tucking the blanket around her. When his knuckles brushed against her cheek, the movement was as light as touching a dream.

He stood by the bed, looking down at her, and after a long while, he whispered:

"...Do you even know what you're doing?"

The voice was so soft that even he himself could barely hear it.

Then he turned around and closed the door.

In the corridor, he leaned against the wall, tilted his head back, and closed his eyes.

The floor lamp in the living room was still on, casting a warm glow across the floor.

The night wind rises again outside the window, the shadows of the trees sway, casting dappled shadows on the curtains.

He raised his hand and touched his lips with his fingertips.

It's still hot there.

As if sensing something, Shen Zhiyi opened her eyes and looked at the unfamiliar space, but her nose was filled with familiar scents.

She pursed her lips; they were still burning hot.

She reached out and gently touched it, seemingly still able to feel the man's fiery breath from before.

Her face suddenly flushed, and she buried her head in the blanket, barely daring to breathe.

What did she just do...?

Tonight, Lu Zichuan is not the only one suffering from insomnia.
