Father, you've been drafted four times already, please spare us!

What exactly happened to him?

Upon arriving at the base and before being assigned, Chen Nian noticed that Wang Shifeng was different from the other new recruits and platoon leaders; he seemed somewhat special and isolated.

Hearing Lao Ge say this, Chen Nian concluded that Wang Shifeng must have a story, and that story might not be pleasant.

Therefore, Chen Nian must find out the truth. If it's a mess, then Chen Nian would never get involved. But if there are hidden reasons, then Chen Nian wouldn't mind lending a hand during the three months he's getting back into shape in the recruit training camp.

Old Ge sighed, took out a pack of cigarettes, handed one to Chen Nian, and then lit one for himself.

Chen Nian hesitated for a moment, then took the cigarette, but did not light it; he simply placed it on the table.

He always felt that smoking would affect his lung capacity and physical fitness. Although it could relieve stress, it was addictive. Chen Nian resisted anything addictive, and sometimes he would just chew gum at most.

Old Ge held a cigarette between his fingers, his eyes gradually becoming somewhat empty and vacant.

"I was a new recruit last year too."

"Last year, a pampered soldier came to our area. He was a true pampered soldier. His elders were deputy chiefs of staff in a division. He got promoted through a roundabout route and came here."

"Since the higher-ups have given instructions, there's nothing I can do but arrange it. You can't fight fate!"

"Wang Shifeng is the best squad leader among the new recruits under my command. He has excellent military skills, and his ideology is impeccable. Whether it's personal discipline or anything else, in short, he is the best among all the new recruit squad leaders!"

Old Ge was full of praise for Wang Shifeng.

"Young master soldier, he's just here temporarily, so I put him with Wang Shifeng and told Shifeng about his background. At first, that young master soldier was quite well-behaved, doing his training as usual."

"But less than a month later, the spoiled soldiers' bad habits started to show. They either refused to train, violated rules and regulations, and even assaulted a military police officer during their basic training!"

"Shifeng is very capable, but capable people can't tolerate any wrongdoing. He could turn a blind eye to minor transgressions, but this spoiled brat's behavior got worse and worse, and Shifeng couldn't stand it anymore. He kept submitting reports and requesting that the spoiled brat be sent back!"

At this point, Old Ge sighed again and commented softly:

"Shifeng has been holding back for a long time, it's really not his fault!"

Chen Nian was furious, and his expression turned frighteningly cold.

"Tolerate? Instructor, it's precisely because you tolerate him that he abuses his family background and acts recklessly!"

Old Ge gave a wry smile, offered no response, and continued:

"It was because of that report that Young Master Bing left. Whether he was sent back or not, nobody knows. Maybe he was just moved somewhere else. After all, his family has 'extraordinary connections'!"

"But it was because of that report that Shifeng's name was remembered. That report wasn't just a slap in the face to the young master, it was a slap in the face to his elders. If that young master's soldiers had been ruined, I don't think his family would have said anything. But to receive a rejection application is like shoving that family's face into a cesspool!"

Chen Nian nodded, feeling relieved. For such people, not only should the person involved be punished, but those behind him should also know that military law is merciless, and the army only upholds righteousness and does not make exceptions!

"After this incident, a rumor circulated from higher-ups that Wang Shifeng would have to retire next year, and that if he caused even the slightest problem, he would be in deep trouble!"

"Shifeng is a good soldier, principled and capable, but good people don't always get good rewards!"

When Lao Ge spoke, his face was full of indignation, but upon closer examination, one could also discern a sense of helplessness within that indignation.

"Then why did you call me here? What do you want from me?"

Chen Nian probably guessed what Lao Ge was thinking, but he couldn't be the one to speak first. Although he also wanted to help Wang Shifeng, only Lao Ge could bring it up.

"I want you to shine brightly in basic training, so that those who spread the rumors can see that Wang Shifeng is a good soldier and a capable squad leader!"

Old Ge looked at Chen Nian with expectant eyes.

"Chen Nian, I know this is going too far, after all, there are many issues involved, and even that deputy chief of staff might target you. If you don't agree, I won't..."

Before Lao Ge could finish speaking, Chen Nian grinned:

"Heh, a deputy chief of staff is nothing!"

Upon hearing this, Lao Ge's eyes widened immediately:

"You, you also have a good father?"

----

Chen Nian curled his lip:

"If I had a rich dad, would I be here arguing with you? I'd just make a phone call!"

"Like I said, the military is much fairer than civilian life. They look at background, but they value ability even more!"

"The deputy chief of staff can't even sit at a table!"

"Don't forget, I've worked on land, sea, and air!"

To be honest, Chen Nian looked down on that spoiled soldier and his family. Wasn't it obvious that they couldn't handle the game?

If someone blames others for their own shortcomings, they are not suitable for the military, and such people will disrupt the atmosphere of the military.

"Young Master Chen, are you also going to tell them a story about a 'background figure and a nobody'?"

When Lao Ge saw that Chen Nian agreed to help Wang Shifeng, he relaxed completely and even had the mood to joke with Chen Nian.

Chen Nian glanced at him sideways, a smirk playing on his lips:

"No, I want to tell him a story full of the spirit of resistance: 'Fighting against heaven is endlessly joyful; fighting against earth is endlessly joyful; fighting against man is endlessly joyful!'"

Old Ge frowned:

Speak like a human being!

"I'll use my grades to make sure that young master can't touch Wang Shifeng, no matter what!"

"For example, the overall assessment scores of the recruit platoon far surpassed those of their peers!"

Old Ge squinted at Chen Nian:

"Are you kidding me?"

"The quality of the recruits varies, so what makes you think you can guarantee they'll all rank at the top?"

Chen Nian grinned:

"Instructor, when I was in the Air Force, you once said this..."

Outside the door, a new recruit platoon leader deliberately slowed his pace as he walked slowly past the office, straining his ears to listen carefully to what was happening inside.

"air force?"

"Damn, aren't there a lot of my troops?"

"Even if the Air Force's young master comes, Old Lu might not be able to make a difference!"

"I thought Wang Shifeng had really gotten away with it, a retired air force soldier, haha..."

Upon hearing Chen Nian mention that he had served in the Air Force, the new recruit platoon leader revealed a disdainful smile and, without bothering to slow down, turned back.

"Hey, I heard that! This kid used to be in the Air Force. Someone who came out of the Air Force probably isn't anything special!"

"Heh heh, Wang Shifeng had a real young master last year, and this year he got an air force young master. He's got all sorts of 'good things' going on!"

"Here you go, do you want it?"

"I don't want to!"

"Hahaha!"

...

Inside the office.

"Xiao Lu, go and call Squad Leader Shifeng over here!"
