You were put undercover, and you've risen to become the boss.

Chen Hui was taken aback.

"What? Officer Xu's father is the department head?"

"Yes, the last time there was a mole within the Eagles organization, it implicated many people. The investigation has been ongoing, and many people in our provincial department are involved!"

"Even a deputy director was implicated. Although Director Wang was not involved, he was the director, which is a serious dereliction of duty. Moreover, things in the political arena are very complicated, and some people took the opportunity to make Director Wang step down to the second line."

Chen Hui understood this very well: if you have something on your hands, your opponents will naturally not let you off the hook.

"Since our provincial department hasn't found a suitable candidate for director yet, Director Xu will temporarily serve as the director!"

"Director Xu?"

"Of course, Xu Qiuping is the fourth-ranking leader in our southern Xinjiang province. There's too much controversy surrounding the position of department head, and the leaders haven't found a suitable candidate, so he'll temporarily hold the position!"

"Once a suitable candidate is found, Director Xu will definitely step down from his position as department head, after all, he's been too busy with work!"

Upon hearing this, Chen Hui's heart stirred, and he looked at Tan Zhigang.

"Master, you deserve a lot of credit for catching this major drug lord, Zuo Min, right? You should have a chance at the director position now, shouldn't you?"

Upon hearing this, Wu Qiang couldn't help but smile.

"Old Tan, it seems your apprentice really cares about you."

"Xiao Hui, your Master Tan is now a deputy director-general, and Director Qi has become the executive deputy director-general."

He's now a deputy director-general; his mentor is a deputy director-general now. It's definitely worth it to latch onto this powerful figure.

"Hello, Director Tan!"

Chen Hui immediately saluted.

Tan Zhigang rolled his eyes, took out his ID, and handed it to him.

"Take a look at this."

Chen Hui opened it with suspicion, and inside were his police rank insignia and his official police officer identification.

Upon seeing the police rank, Chen Hui was startled; it was actually a first-class police officer.

Wu Qiang laughed.

"This is something your mentor fought for for you, his face flushed with anger. Now you are a first-level police officer. You should know how many years it takes to go from a trainee to a full-fledged officer, and how long it takes to become a first-level officer. You should understand that this means your colleagues who were interns at the same time are still trainees, while you are already a first-level officer."

First-class police officer, and above that is police superintendent.

"You've already made contributions before. This third-class merit was decided by your Master Wu and me so that you wouldn't stand out too much. You're so young, and you've already received second-class and third-class merits, and you get them every few months. It will attract jealousy."

Chen Hui suddenly realized that being promoted to first-class police officer was more advantageous than receiving a second-class merit.

"Thank you, Masters!"

Tan Zhigang glared at him irritably.

"You were just saying we were blind, you little brat, you change your tune so quickly."

"Hehe, Master, that was a slip of the tongue. Don't worry, I'll definitely help you earn more merits in the future so you can sit on the director's seat in the morning to repay you!"

"Stop talking nonsense! No matter what position you hold, you're serving the people. There's no distinction between high and low positions!"

"Alright, your Master Wu and I came here this time not only to give you gifts, but also to take care of some things. You should rest well, and once Zuo Min's matter is completely settled, you can go to Ningcheng to take up your post."

"Ningcheng?"

"Yes, you're now a member of the Criminal Investigation Department, so of course you'll be working there. Your file on your participation in undercover operations will be sealed and classified as top secret. No one will know you ever participated in an undercover operation!"

"Of course, to avoid being recognized, we'll have to wait until things calm down before reporting to Ningcheng!"

"Understood, Master!"

"But isn't Officer Xu also in Ningcheng?"

"Nonsense, she's from the Narcotics Control Team, so naturally she's in Ningcheng. Her undercover file has also been sealed, and she's been transferred to the intelligence team's technical group."

"oh!"

Wu Qiang looked at him with a half-smile.

"Xiaohui, Qingyan is still single, isn't she? I heard that quite a few people have introduced her to potential partners, but she hasn't liked any of them. You'd better seize the opportunity. Alright, your Master Tan and I will be leaving now!"

What kind of talk is that?

Should we seize the opportunity and let him pursue Xu Qingyan?

The daughter of the fourth-ranking leader in Southern Xinjiang Province—if I could win over Xu Qingyan, she would become my father-in-law. Isn't that exactly what I've been pursuing in this life?

He rose to prominence overnight?

Should we give Xu Qingyan a call and reconnect?

Thinking about it, I decided against it. We haven't been in touch for so long, and to find out his father is a leader and then try to curry favor with him is just too much. He wouldn't do something like that.

Besides, he's just a junior police officer now. There's a distance between them—car, house, dowry, and even her parents. If they were to get together, wouldn't he be living off her?

However, his doctor recently said that he has a bad stomach and is better suited to eating soft food.

·············

A month has passed.

Tan Zhigang called Chen Hui from his office and told him to report to Ningcheng in three days. He also told Chen Hui to take the time to make all the necessary arrangements.

I had just hung up when the phone rang again.

"Hello!"

"Old Tan, it's me, Qi Zheng!"

"What happened to Hall Qi?"

"Old Tan, I just went to a meeting. Something happened at the Ruicheng border, and the ministry was also alarmed by it. They want to borrow someone from our provincial department. This person is from your criminal investigation team."

Although Tan Zhigang was promoted to deputy director, he remained the head of the Criminal Investigation Corps, only with more responsibilities.

"Who?"

"Xiao Hui!"

Upon hearing this, Tan Zhigang's expression turned serious, revealing a solemn look.

"What exactly is going on with Hall Qi?"

"Five days ago, executives from a large company organized a tour to Shwecheng. While resting at a hotel on the border that night, they were attacked and kidnapped. The authorities destroyed the border barbed wire and took all of them into northern Shan State."

Tan Zhigang was shocked when he heard this.

"Who dares to be so bold?"

"Huang Guojun!"

"To be precise, the person who orchestrated this operation was Peng Jiahao, a leader of the Huangguo Army, and the Red Scorpion Army was also involved; it was a joint operation!"

"The Red Scorpion Army?"

Tan Zhigang naturally knew about the infamous Red Scorpion Army, but he never expected them to be so audacious.

"Why would they take such a big risk to kidnap these people?"

"They want a ransom. This Peng Jiahao is very likely connected to Zuo Min. Zuo Min is gone, and he's lost a huge source of income. To maintain his power, he definitely needs money. As for why he's mixed up with the Red Scorpion Army, that's unclear for now!"

"Furthermore, he also wants to take this opportunity to get us to release several members of Huang Guojun who were captured within our territory!"

"Damn it! They're extorting us!"

"Old Tan, there are many top talents among this group of executives, and the ministry attaches great importance to them."

The implication is self-evident.

Tan Zhigang came to his senses.

"What can Xiaohui do?"

"Peng Jiahao has connections with Zuo Min. We've discovered that one of his adopted sons is Peng Ying, and Peng Ying has been spotted in the Golden Triangle, suggesting he's returned to Peng Jiahao's side!"
