Red Dragon seeks his position in both realms.

Chapter 7 Free Buddhist Teachings

Winters stepped into the pile of books, his dragon claws rummaging through the various scrolls.

But he discovered a problem: he was illiterate!

He doesn't know the words of this world, so he can't understand the characters and symbols on these books and jade slips, let alone cultivate.

"Hmm...it seems I'll have to look at those illustrated cultivation techniques." Winters frowned, his gaze sweeping over the pile of books.

"Little demon, you can't read, can you? Touch the black stone at the bottom of you, and you'll be able to read temporarily."

"But you only have fifteen minutes, so you need to hurry."

A warning came from outside; it seemed that the green ox demon had been keeping an eye on Winters as he entered the book cave.

Winters had no objection. After searching around, he quickly found the black stone the size of a millstone below and gently touched it with his dragon claw.

In an instant, light flowed, and Winters' mind was filled with some inexplicable information.

He could quickly scan through all the books in the entire book cave, clearly knowing the name, general content, and purpose of each book in each location.

With a flick of its left paw, it revealed a traditional Chinese cultivation technique called "Thick Earth Three Powers Method." The technique was simple in content but exuded a profound sense of depth.

The cover also has the number two on it, which must be the second grade that Lord Crow mentioned.

The claw moved away and flipped through several more scrolls of human cultivation techniques, such as "Qinghe Cui Clan Water Refining Method" and "Lin Family Great Wood Technique". They were all named after family members and were probably human inheritances that had been lost to the common people or abducted by the demon race.

There are also biographies left by human cultivators, such as this one: "The Travels of Xu Xianke". Winters skimmed through it and it tells the story of a late-stage Qi Conversion cultivator who traveled all over the world.

At the end, he also left behind the first draft of "Shui Jing Shu," a work on the distribution of waterways throughout the land.

The biography is quite interesting, and the local customs and geographical knowledge it contains broadened Winters' horizons and gave him a better understanding of the world.

But none of this stopped Winters. After a moment's thought, he decided to do as the crow had suggested and choose a Fire Virtue cultivation technique.

The Pleiades lineage is too conspicuous. It is rather abrupt that a lineage that was originally cut off from the future could suddenly produce cultivators who practice this path.

Fire element, on the other hand, is less noticeable, and Winters suspects that if he were to cultivate fire element, he might also possess a natural talent for it.

As a red dragon, I naturally have a high affinity for fire elements, and I imagine it should be the same in this world.

With this in mind, Winters found a copy of "The Three Yang Earth Fire Method" in the library.

This is a second-grade Fire Virtue cultivation technique. The practice is gentle and the entry threshold is low. It only requires the assistance of earth fire to cultivate. Its advantage lies in its solid foundation and the accompanying Qi gathering method, so advancing to higher levels of Qi absorption is not a problem.

After finalizing the agreement, Winters did not leave immediately.

Instead, he took many miscellaneous books and secret stories from the library, such as "Biography of Xu Xianke", "Strange Tales of Southern Hunan", and a picture book for literacy.

These miscellaneous books and secrets will allow Winters to better understand the world, and the more information he has, the better it will be for his actions.

Winters then stepped out of the door and said to the big blue ox:

"I'd also like to buy some miscellaneous books and anecdotes. How much are these eleven books?"

The large blue ox, who had been resting with its eyes closed, opened them, glanced at the eleven books, and then smiled and said:

"Not expensive! Not expensive! These eleven books will be rounded down to one spirit stone, and you can use spirit materials of equal value."

Upon hearing this, Winters remained silent, instead feigning hesitation, as if pondering whether or not to buy it, appearing quite conflicted.

Seeing this, the Azure Demon Ox continued to laugh:

"Young friend, don't hesitate. My book is really not expensive. It's already a fixed price, and it's definitely worth more than its price. I won't lower the price, and you don't need to bargain."

Besides, I just let you use the [Scripture Reading Technique] to look at books, and I didn't even charge you. You should know that this is a secret Buddhist method.

"The monsters in this world also possess intelligence."

Seeing the Green Ox Demon speak like this, Winters gave up on bargaining and vomited out the ginseng and honey from his stomach.

The Green Ox Demon immediately recognized these as valuable items, and its eyes lit up.

"Good stuff. This spirit ginseng is a spiritual treasure of the Earth element. Not bad, two roots are worth half a spirit stone."

He then picked up the rock candy and smelled it, saying:

"I've never seen rock honey like this before. It smells of wood and earth elements. A jar of it could barely be considered a semi-spirit stone."

This honey is a product of the nectar fields in his territory, a resource that can be produced sustainably, so he doesn't feel too bad about wasting it.

This allowed Winters to discover an important piece of information: resources from the original world can be traded and used on this side, and the prices seem to be quite high.

Winters traded honey.

The Green Ox Demon received the honey jar, opened it, smelled the aroma, nodded in satisfaction, and accepted it. However, he didn't stop there; instead, he said to Winters:

"Lizard, you must have just embarked on your path of cultivation?"

"Yes."

Although Winters was very unhappy with the term "lizard," he had to put up with it, since the other party had a higher level of cultivation and he couldn't beat them in a fight.

In his simple value system, might makes right.

"Do you know that cultivation techniques are divided into grades? Grade one is the lowest, and grade nine is the highest. The cultivation technique you have is only Grade two of Fire Virtue, belonging to the [Room Fire] lineage."

Generally, demon cultivators without a foundation can only reach the first rank, with no special techniques. Second-rank techniques have unique aspects, third-rank techniques are even more so and are generally not passed on to outsiders, and fourth-rank and above are extremely precious.

The Green Ox Demon explained, and then two jade books suddenly appeared in his hand, which were even glowing and shining brightly.

"These are the fourth and sixth grades of Buddhist teachings, called: The Formless Muscle/Tendon Changing Sutra and The Great Sun Earth Buddha Sutra: The Great Wrathful Recitation Ritual of the Immovable King."

I observe that you are intelligent and have a strong affinity for Buddhism. Therefore, I bestow these two Buddhist scriptures upon you, hoping that you will diligently practice them.

After saying that, he actually handed the two jade scriptures that radiated golden Buddhist light to Winters.

"Sixth-grade and fourth-grade Buddhist teachings? And you're giving them to me for free?"

The fact that sixth-grade and fourth-grade items were clearly stronger than second-grade items left Winters somewhat stunned.

Could it be that I have a deep affinity with Buddhism, which is why this green ox demon is willing to give me two profound Buddhist scriptures?

For a moment, Winters felt a surge of joy and prepared to accept this profound Buddhist text.

After all, who doesn't like free things?

Even if the Green Ox Demon has some tricks up his sleeve, he can simply refuse.

Seemingly sensing Winters' concerns, the Green Ox Demon's words carried an explanation:

"The Great Sun Earth Buddha Sutra: The Ritual of Reciting the Great Wrath of Acala is the Earth Buddha cultivation method of the [Fangri] lineage in Buddhism."

However, the sun has been dim for a long time, and our Buddhist community has no golden land for cultivation, so we cannot practice there.

Although one cannot cultivate, being able to appreciate and comprehend the profound mysteries of the Sun Buddha's Way is also excellent.

"The Formless Muscle/Tendon Changing Classic is a Buddhist body-refining divine skill that can refine the body and mind, temper the body and cleanse the marrow. It is perfect for us demon cultivators, but I only have the incomplete version of the Embryonic Breathing Technique here."

It turns out that one book was impossible to cultivate in the first place, and the other only contained fragments.

Just then, a dark shadow flew down from the sky; it was the crow king, who cried out urgently:

"Skinzi! Don't touch those two Buddhist scriptures!!"

If you touch it, you can only become a mount for Buddhist monks. In your next reincarnation, you will also be a servant or mount for those bald monks!

The sound was shrill; the crow king had never been so anxious.

"For all eternity, there is no escape!"

High-ranking Buddhist monks have complete control over the minds, bodies, and lives of their disciples, able to bring them to life or death at will; their fates are not in their own hands!

Upon hearing this, Winters immediately withdrew his outstretched claws and looked at the blue bull demon warily.

"Hmph, at least I made it in time."

The crow breathed a sigh of relief, flapped its wings, and landed beside Winters, pointing its finger at the blue bull demon and cursing:

"Niu Er, stop peddling your Buddhist ghost magic."

You've already trained until your horns are broken and your hooves are cracked; in a few years you'll be ridden by someone else. And you're still trying to recruit new recruits? Bah!

The Green Ox Demon wasn't annoyed at all; instead, he laughed and said:

"Lord Crow has too deep a prejudice against Buddhism. Forgive me!"

Since my Buddhahood was attained, all beings in the North have been reborn in the Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, freed from the sea of suffering. People all praise my Buddha for his great compassion!

"Lay Buddhists must think independently and not be misled!"

After saying that, Niu Er put away the jade book, a smug and wicked smile on his face, and quietly watched the two demons.

Upon hearing this, Crow King snorted at Niu Er and sneered:

"It's a good thing you didn't take it. This kind of Buddhist cultivation technique is indeed ridiculously high in quality, and it's also easy to cultivate."

But once you begin practicing, your mind and body will lean towards Buddhism, until you become a puppet of Buddhism.

The crow patted its chest with its black feathers, looking as if it had been shaken.

"Stone Dragon, you've taken the Fire Virtue Technique, now let's hurry up and leave!"

He urged Winters in a low voice, and even tugged at him with his paw.

Fearing that the Green Ox Demon might suddenly appear and forcibly preach Buddhism, they wanted to take him and escape quickly.

This shows how terrifying Buddhism can be in this world.

But after hearing what the crow said, Winters suddenly wanted Buddhist techniques.

Winters said to the smiling blue bull demon:

"Senior Qingniu, I have a deep longing for Buddhism. I wonder if you could impart some of your knowledge to me? I would be extremely grateful if you could bestow these two supreme Buddhist scriptures upon me."

As soon as he finished speaking, Crow King went from anxious to stunned, and Green Ox Demon's smile also froze, as it was also somewhat surprised.

You should know that many demons would be terrified and run away as soon as they heard that the cultivation method it gave them was a Buddhist method, and would avoid it at all costs.

"Could it be that this little demon truly has turned to Buddhism?"
