On the flight back from Los Angeles, Lin Yuan slept for nearly ten hours.

Upon landing in Beijing, the moment I pushed open the glass door of the covered walkway, a familiar breeze rushed towards me.

Gu Zhiwan followed beside him, dragging her suitcase. Her hair was casually tied up, she wasn't wearing makeup, and her eyes were still a little swollen. She hadn't slept well on the plane. Leaning on his shoulder, she said, "Finally back."

"Um."

"Hollywood is great, but all I want to do is come back and get a full night's sleep."

Lin Yuan looked down at her, his lips twitching slightly: "Don't rush to sleep."

Gu Zhiwan looked up in confusion. Lin Yuan had already taken out his phone and sent Fei Zhao a message: [Arrived. Go pick up the keys this afternoon.]

The other end replied with three words: "We've been waiting for you."

Gu Zhiwan blinked, wanting to ask, but Lin Yuan put his phone back in his pocket, walked towards the exit with a normal expression, and only said, "Come on, I'll take you somewhere."

The address was by the river, and a row of camphor trees lined the entrance to the residential area. As the car parked, the sunlight was filtered through the trees in patches. Gu Zhiwan looked out the car window and whispered, "Where is this?"

"New home."

Gu Zhiwan paused for two seconds, got out of the car, and followed Lin Yuan into the building. They took the elevator up, and Lin Yuan placed the keychain in her palm.

"Open the door."

Gu Zhiwan glanced down at the keychain, which was a small film-shaped keychain. She inserted the key into the lock, and with a "click," the door opened.

In front of you is a floor-to-ceiling window.

The river unfolds behind the glass, and the afternoon light spreads across the water, shattering into a golden hue. The outlines of distant buildings are blurred in the thin mist. The entire window frames the river view as a painting, hanging there quietly.

Gu Zhiwan stood there silently for a long while.

When did you buy it?

"I booked it before the Oscars, and I've been waiting for the move-in date until now."

Lin Yuan walked in, casually draping his coat over the back of a chair. "I've chosen the apartment layout. A study and a media room have been reserved. This bay window area will be your cozy spot. The interior decoration hasn't been arranged yet; you can decide."

Gu Zhiwan turned her head and looked at his back, unable to hold back her laughter.

"Lin Yuan, did you already plan this all along?"

"Yes." He didn't deny it at all, "It was about half a month earlier."

Gu Zhiwan walked over, stood by the French windowsill, sat down, and took in the entire river view. She lowered her voice a little, with an indescribable sense of emotion.

"Back when we were still in Hollywood, you were already preparing for what would happen after you came back?"

"At the time, I thought that after finishing all this, I would need a place to settle down."

Lin Yuan walked over and sat down next to her by the bay window. The light from outside shone in from the side, illuminating his profile.

"OK."

Gu Zhiwan leaned closer, resting her shoulder against him, looking at the river, and softly uttered a single word.

"good."

The two of them spent three days choosing the interior decorations.

The first day was Gu Zhiwan's day.

She dragged Lin Yuan to four interior design stores. When they were picking out a fabric sofa, she sat down, bounced around a bit, and turned to ask him, "This one or that one?"

Lin Yuan stood to the side, glancing down at the two sofas, both warm beige, the differences so subtle he could barely tell. He said, "Either is fine."

"Anything is fine" is not the answer.

"The one on the left is softer."

Gu Zhiwan flicked it again and nodded: "Okay, this one."

Gu Zhiwan chose two scented candles, one with osmanthus and the other with white tea. She tried them for a while before finally handing one to him, saying, "Smell it, which one is better."

Lin Yuan lowered his head to sniff for a second, then looked up and said, "Anything is fine."

Gu Zhiwan looked at him speechlessly for a moment, then put the osmanthus-colored item into the shopping basket. "I've made the decision for you. You're not allowed to complain when we get back."

"I don't mind."

The next day, it was Lin Yuan's turn to host the event.

We hired a custom carpenter to make the bookshelf, which will cover an entire wall from floor to ceiling, with enough space for partitions, one side for books and the other for CD cases.

Lin Yuan stood in front of the empty wall, measuring the dimensions twice with the carpenter and meticulously determining the height of each shelf. Gu Zhiwan, holding a cup of coffee beside him, watched him for a long time before finally saying, "You seem much more enthusiastic about the bookshelf than choosing a sofa."

"The sofa is for you to sit on, the bookshelf is for me to use, of course they're different."

"...That makes sense." Gu Zhiwan sighed. "Then could I reserve a shelf in the corner of the bookshelf for my things?"

Lin Yuan didn't even turn his head: "The top right corner is yours."

Gu Zhiwan blinked, didn't say anything, lowered her head to drink her coffee, and hid her smile in the rim of the cup.

On the third day, the two of them went together to decide how to deal with the blank wall.

Gu Zhiwan originally suggested hanging a few decorative paintings, but Lin Yuan shook his head and said, "Keep them to display the manuscript stills."

"Posting handwritten manuscripts and stills...that's not the same logic as using decorative paintings."

"The place I live in is more pleasing to the eye than the decorative paintings."

Gu Zhiwan thought for a moment and didn't say anything more. Later, she secretly got two photos printed. One was a photo of the two of them holding hands and officially announcing their relationship. The other was a photo of his profile on stage that she secretly took with her phone that night at the Oscars. She then pasted it on the top right corner of the wall.

When Lin Yuan found out, he didn't say anything. He just went out in the afternoon and brought her back a cup of osmanthus cake and iced lemon tea.

On the day of the move, Zhou Zixuan, Qian Zhuangzhuang, Chen Mo, Xie Wanyin, Shen Qingci and several others arrived in a large group.

There wasn't much luggage, and the group of people packed it up in less than two hours.

Qian Zhuangzhuang carried the last box of books into the study, clapped his hands, looked around, and said with deep emotion:

"Brother Yuan, I just want to ask you one question—an Oscar-winning director, a major Hollywood project, and then you turn around and buy a river-view apartment, ready to live that kind of life, do you regret it?"

Lin Yuan placed a book on the bookshelf without looking up: "No regrets."

"As long as I don't regret it." Qian Zhuangzhuang flopped onto the sofa. "Because the view from this bay window is absolutely amazing, if I lived here, I wouldn't go to Hollywood."

Xie Wanyin peeked into the study from the doorway and saw the wall with two photos already pasted on it. She laughed and turned to Gu Zhiwan: "Did you put those up?"

Gu Zhiwan said, "Mm."

A hot pot was set up in the living room, and a group of people sat around the table. Shrimp paste, beef, and duck blood were served, and the broth was bubbling away. The whole house was filled with heat, and the aroma wafted from the dining table all the way to the window.

Zhou Zixuan picked up a piece of tripe with his chopsticks and stuffed it into his mouth with a heavy heart. "Brother Yuan, you've won an Oscar, won over Sister Gu, published a book, and your song is a hit in the past six months. What kind of life is this?"

"An ordinary life."

"I'd take a dozen of your ordinary ones."

Qian Zhuangzhuang nodded, expressing his strong agreement as he added the shrimp paste to the pot.

Chen Mo, holding his camera, took pictures of the group eating. He snapped a photo of Lin Yuan and Gu Zhiwan sitting together, with Lin Yuan putting a piece of beef on Gu Zhiwan's plate. He pressed the shutter, glanced at the frame, and saved it without saying anything.

Qian Zhuangzhuang raised a can of Coke and tapped it against Lin Yuan's face: "Brother Yuan, happy new house! We can come and eat hot pot here anytime from now on, you can't kick us out."

Lin Yuan picked up a glass of lemonade and clinked glasses with it: "Let me know in advance if you're coming."

The group of people at the table burst into laughter, creating a lively atmosphere. The river breeze outside the window lifted the curtains, and the steam from the hot pot rose into the air. The entire living room was bathed in warm light, as if it had contained all the noisy, crowded, and best things in the world.

After their friend left, only the two of them remained in the huge house.

Lin Yuan cleared the table, and Gu Zhiwan washed the dishes clean. The two worked in perfect harmony. After they finished cleaning up, the kitchen light was turned off, and the whole house became quiet.

She went to sit by the bay window, pulled her legs up, and the river breeze blew in through the cracks in the window, carrying a hint of coolness from the river. The city below was still lit up, with layers of lights, and in the distance was a blurry riverbank.

Lin Yuan poured two cups of hot tea in the kitchen, brought them over, and sat down next to her.

Gu Zhiwan took the cup, lowered her head and took a sip, glancing at him out of the corner of her eye.

How are you feeling right now?

"It's alright." Lin Yuan leaned back against the window frame, looking down at the street. "It's quieter than I expected."

"Before, you were either filming or giving out awards every day. Now it's suddenly quiet. Aren't you used to it?"

"Habit." He paused. "That's what I want."

Gu Zhiwan turned her head to look at his profile. His eyes were calm, without any deep emotions, just a solid and down-to-earth feeling.

She turned to the side and rested her head on his shoulder. The two of them stood close together, looking at the lights downstairs, without saying another word.

A breeze blew in again, causing the curtains to flutter slightly. The tea was still hot, the warmth of the cup seeping up through my palms.

Gu Zhiwan said very softly, "Lin Yuan."

"Um."

"Thank you for buying this house, bringing me back, and leaving me a bay window."

Lin Yuan glanced down at her, and after a moment, spoke.

"You're left with more than just a bay window."

Gu Zhiwan remained silent.

The lights outside the window were on, and the faint sounds of cars coming from downstairs drifted up. There were also some distant lights on the river, all quiet and peaceful.
