Bai Mei has been busy with house-related matters these past two days.

She met with several buyers, and the talks all went well at first, but in the end, they all fell through for various reasons.

Even the agents were completely baffled.

"Ms. Bai, what's going on? The buyer was very firm during the initial discussions. Could it be that a competitor is sabotaging us?"

Bai Mei put down her coffee from her book, looked at the residential area across the street, and took a deep breath.

"No rush. Didn't you say this buyer called this morning and was very firm in her stance? Let's see who she meets today."

The agent nodded: "Okay, I'd like to see which unscrupulous colleague is doing this to me."

She spoke with the client by phone this morning to confirm that she would pay and complete the formalities this afternoon, and then she and Ms. Bai immediately rushed over.

They had been waiting in the coffee shop across from the client's apartment complex all morning, and so far nothing seemed amiss.

If we just hold on for a few more hours, this deal will be closed.

Bai Mei smiled, leaving her to keep watch for now, while she picked up her bag, found a secluded spot, and took out her laptop.

Then I looked up at the time, and it was exactly right.

She turned on her computer, logged into the chat software, and sent a video.

The video call was quickly connected, and a Western woman with gray hair appeared on the screen, accompanied by a man with an Asian appearance.

The man glanced at the camera and immediately waved enthusiastically.

"Hello! Miss Bai, I'm Eric, Jiang Wan's friend. Jiang Wan has already told me about your situation."

The man spoke fluent Mandarin with a mix of English and Chinese, and pushed the woman next to him toward the camera.

"This is my teacher, you can call her Amanda. She is a top expert in the United States in your field of illness. She has reviewed your information and is very interested in your condition."

He turned to Amanda beside him and said something, and Amanda immediately nodded and spoke into the screen.

Bai Mei's English wasn't very good, but she used a translation app on her phone and Eric's translation to finally understand.

The type of disease she suffers from has been cured in the United States.

More importantly, the clinic where Eric's teacher worked had research positions available.

If Bai Mei can successfully complete all the preliminary procedures and go abroad, she will receive financial assistance for her medical treatment, and she will only need to spend a small portion of the money herself.

Bai Mei nodded excitedly, and haltingly expressed her strong desire using translation software.

Eric clapped his hands: "Okay! Send me the materials later and I'll submit the application for you."

"Miss Bai, see you in LA."

Even after the video call ended, Bai Mei's hands were still trembling.

She couldn't wait to take out her phone and call Jiang Wan to tell her the good news.

Jiang Wan, on the other end of the phone, was just as happy as she was, urging her to finish the house matter quickly and return to Haicheng to apply for a visa.

As she finished speaking, Bai Mei's voice trembled slightly, and she uttered a soft sentence.

"Jiang Wan, thank you."

After hanging up the phone, Bai Mei took several deep breaths before she could finally calm down.

The real estate agent was still sitting by the window, diligently keeping an eye on the entrance to the residential complex.

Bai Mei walked over and sat down next to her.

"How's it going? Is something wrong?"

"Not yet. We agreed that I would pick her up at one o'clock to sign the contract. There are still two hours left."

The agent scratched his head: "Ms. Bai, perhaps we're wrong. The previous client did indeed change their mind for their own reasons."

Just as Bai Mei was about to speak, she suddenly sat up straight, her eyes fixed on the entrance of the residential area.

She spotted a familiar figure.

Zhao Kai!

How did he end up here?

Seeing that he looked around, he walked straight toward the coffee shop.

Bai Mei immediately pulled the agent away and sat down at the table near the toilet, where no one went.

Then, with his back to the door, he turned on the laptop's webcam.

"Miss Bai, what's wrong?"

The agent looked nervous, lowered his voice, and asked quietly.

"Something's up. Don't speak yet, observe carefully."

Through the camera, Bai Mei saw that Zhao Kai did not carefully observe the people in the coffee shop after he walked in.

Instead, he deliberately sat down by the window, seemingly waiting for someone.

Five minutes later, the real estate agent sitting opposite Bai Mei immediately widened his eyes.

"Ms. Bai, the client has left the residential area!"

Bai Mei's gaze suddenly turned cold as she stared intently at the computer screen.

A moment later, a young woman wearing a camel-colored trench coat pushed open the door of the coffee shop and walked in, holding a mobile phone in her hand.

Zhao Kai looked back and immediately raised his phone and waved it.

The young woman walked over to him and sat down opposite him.

"Did you call me? Who are you? What do you want?"

Zhao Kai took a few pages of paper out of his bag and handed them over.

Are you looking to buy this house?

The woman peeked out and asked, "Yes, is there a problem?"

I advise you not to buy it.

"Why?" the woman frowned. "Are you the homeowner?"

"no."

"So what's your relationship with the landlady? Are you enemies? Does she owe you money?"

Zhao Kai smiled and said, "You can understand it that way."

The woman scoffed and rolled her eyes.

"Could this be some kind of revenge tactic after a breakup? If you really were her creditor, wouldn't you rather see her sell the house and pay you back?"

Zhao Kai pursed his lips. This was the first person he had ever met who asked so many questions.

"You're overthinking it. I just don't want you to be scammed. Do you know what this kind of house has been through?"

The woman casually asked, "What have you been through?"

"This house is unlucky. The previous owners were the Bai family, a famous merchant family in Jingzhou. But after they moved into this villa, the Bai family first went bankrupt, then the couple died in a car accident, and even their only daughter is terminally ill."

The woman's expression changed slightly; she sat up straight and looked directly at him.

How did you know?

"Because...he's my boyfriend!"

A woman's voice suddenly rang out, startling the two of them.

Bai Mei sneered, picked up the coffee on the table, and forcefully splashed it on Zhao Kai's face.

"Zhao Kai, you've resorted to such despicable tactics to stop me from selling the house."

"I'm officially informing you now that we're breaking up!"

Zhao Kai, not bothering to wipe the coffee off his face, stood up and tried to pull Bai Mei away.

"Meimei, it's not what you think. I have my reasons. You have to understand me."

"Understand you? Understanding you means you want to use the inheritance my parents left me to start a business, leaving me with a terminal illness to fend for myself, right?"

Zhao Kai had no way to refute it, and could only say something weakly.

"I'm thinking about our future."

"Go to hell!"

Bai Mei couldn't hold back any longer and blurted out a curse.

"Have some shame, Zhao Kai. You're not even qualified to be a gigolo. Stay away from me from now on, and don't let me see you again."

Zhao Kai blinked at the young woman, his face full of excitement.

"I understand now, my God, this is so melodramatic! Sister, well done!"
