From rejecting the beautiful female CEO to becoming extremely powerful
Chapter 181 Gu Nanqiao left the duplex apartment in the rain.
Lu Yunzhou pushed open the passenger door.
Rainwater dripped down the roof of the car. Bai Zhi stood under the bus stop sign, her cigarette softened by the rain, and the corners of her medicine box were wet.
"Get in the car."
He pushed the car door open wider, revealing blood staining the gauze on his right shoulder.
Bai Zhi broke off the cigarette butt and bent down to get into the car.
She took the towel and pressed her palm against the medicine box.
"You've gotten injured again?"
"We encountered someone with a knife on the road, but we've dealt with them."
Lu Yunzhou started the car.
Bai Zhi gave the address of the riverside building and didn't ask any further questions.
The car drove through the old street, the windshield wipers swinging back and forth.
Bai Zhi opened the medicine box, and the gauze inside had already been unwrapped.
"You came to the bar to find me, spending 140,000. And tonight you took me away from the street. How much are you planning to charge?"
She held a corner of the towel in her mouth, her palm protecting the wet medicine box.
"Let's focus on getting better first, and settle the score later."
Lu Yunzhou turned up the heater.
Bai Zhi pressed her cheek against the car window, her gaze still fixed on his shoulder.
A few lights were on in the small building by the river.
After opening the door, Bai Zhi first looked at the hallway before locking the two locks.
The windows were covered with frosted film, and the living room contained a sofa, a dining table, and a medicine box.
"Sit down, I'll change your dressing."
She placed the medicine box on the table and gestured for him to come closer.
Lu Yunzhou took off his wet coat and sat down under the lamp.
Bai Zhi cut open the old gauze with scissors; blood was still seeping from the edges of the wound.
The cotton swab pressed against his skin, and his shoulder and back tensed slightly.
"Was it injured by the stone falcon?"
"He bit off the poison sac himself, leaving no survivors."
Bai Zhi paused for a moment, then tightened the new gauze.
Whether you save someone or kill someone, trouble will follow you.
Lu Yunzhou looked up at her: "If you're afraid of trouble, you won't stop the car."
The medicine box was closed, and Bai Zhi took out a large black long-sleeved shirt from the cabinet and told him to go to the bathroom to change.
When Lu Yunzhou came out, she had already hung her wet coat on the balcony, and there were two cups of hot water on the table.
She pushed one of the glasses in front of him: "Don't leave tonight, the sofa is yours."
Lu Yunzhou glanced at the small building with only one bedroom and deliberately asked, "Are you sure?"
Bai Zhi sat on the armrest of the sofa and tugged at his collar: "Hey sofa, don't get your thoughts wandering."
Lu Yunzhou was pulled closer by her and smelled the faint scent of soap on her.
Bai Zhi's hair was still wet, and water droplets dripped from the ends of her hair onto her collar.
She held onto his collar tightly, looking up at him with a gaze so direct that it was impossible to pretend not to understand.
"You saved me twice, so you should get some interest."
Her hand moved to his chest and stopped through his clothes.
Lu Yunzhou held her shoulder and lowered his voice: "Think carefully, don't blame me tomorrow."
Bai Zhi didn't back down; she wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him closer.
Their breaths mingled, and their lips were about to touch when there was a rapid knocking on the door.
Bai Zhi let go of him, her ears burning red, and turned to walk towards the door.
Lu Yunzhou lowered his hand and stood still, adjusting his collar.
There were two more knocks on the door, carrying the panic of the rainy night.
"Who?"
Bai Zhi pressed herself against the door, her hand already on the lock.
Gu Nanqiao's voice came from outside the door: "Bai Zhi, it's me, open the door."
The door opened, and Gu Nanqiao stood outside.
Her hair was plastered to the side of her face, her coat was dripping wet, she was carrying a canvas bag containing her laptop, and the soles of her shoes were covered in mud.
She looked up and saw Lu Yunzhou, and paused for a moment.
Lu Yunzhou had just helped Bai Zhi up, his hand still hanging in mid-air, when he quickly lowered it.
Gu Nanqiao glanced at his shoulder, then at Bai Zhi, but didn't ask any further questions. She stepped inside.
Bai Zhi placed a snow-white towel over her head: "Dry yourself off first, you've ruined the floor."
Gu Nanqiao grabbed the towel and lowered her head to dry her hair.
Bai Zhi closed the door, took out dry clothes and placed them beside her, then kicked the slippers over.
"Could I stay here for one night?"
Gu Nanqiao's voice was hoarse, her hand pressing down on the canvas bag.
Bai Zhi nodded and led her into the inner room to change her clothes.
Lu Yunzhou stood by the dining table and heard the sound of fabric rustling inside. He raised his hand and touched his nose.
Gu Nanqiao changed her clothes and held a cup of hot water, but didn't drink it.
She repeatedly tried to retrieve her computer and ID, but the access control failed to recognize them. After the security guard confirmed her identity, he gave her a temporary access code.
As soon as the door opened, Ye Zhiwei was tidying up her clothes in the living room, with her newly registered access card on the table.
Ye Zhiwei said that she had already moved in, and the access card was issued with Lu Yunzhou's consent.
Gu Nanqiao asked her why she had the right to have her name registered, and Ye Zhiwei replied that it was Lu Yunzhou's decision to let her move in, and Gu Nanqiao had no right to stop it.
As Gu Nanqiao spoke, she squeezed the paper cup so tightly that it became deformed.
"I'm in charge of access control, and she's using your name to pressure me. She even said that if I delete it once, she can re-encode it."
Lu Yunzhou shifted his gaze to the window.
Gu Nanqiao waited for him to speak, but he only asked the two of them to stop.
"You were just standing there watching?"
She looked up, and raindrops dripped from her hair onto her collar.
Lu Yunzhou straightened the cup on the table and admitted in a low voice, "I didn't handle it well."
Gu Nanqiao twitched the corner of her mouth, but the smile didn't stay on her face: "You always say that."
Ye Zhiwei wanted a place where she could appear in public, and Gu Nanqiao felt a tightness in her chest when she heard this.
She didn't stop Ye Zhiwei from dating, nor did she intend to interfere with who Lu Yunzhou associated with.
But this duplex apartment was set up by her and Lu Yunzhou together, and the access card, keys, and work documents were all kept there.
Ye Zhiwei moved in with the new key card, and even the places she could guard were pushed aside.
After arguing to the very end, Gu Nanqiao packed her computer and ID into her bag, grabbed her umbrella, and left.
Ye Zhiwei stood inside the door and did not chase after them.
Gu Nanqiao walked along the river for a long time. Her phone battery dropped to the red mark, and rainwater seeped into her collar from the edge of her umbrella. Only then did she remember that Bai Zhi lived nearby.
After listening, Bai Zhi replaced the paper cup in her hand with a glass, and said bluntly, "Ye Zhiwei's relationship with Lu Yunzhou is her own choice. She has to bear the consequences. You two are the ones who are losing out the most by ruining your sisterhood for a man."
Gu Nanqiao held the cup, her palm pressed against the inside, and did not answer immediately.
Bai Zhi then looked at Lu Yunzhou: "You're also at fault. You want to keep everyone around you, but when there's a conflict, you pretend not to hear, and nobody's satisfied."
Lu Yunzhou subconsciously touched his nose.
Bai Zhi's words were accurate; he couldn't even find a way to refute them.
The room fell silent.
Lu Yunzhou grabbed his coat and held the car keys on the table in his hand.
"You stay here, I'm going back to Yuanchuan. There are still documents at the construction site."
As he was about to walk towards the door, Gu Nanqiao reached out and took the key from his palm, putting it into her coat pocket.
"You're trying to run away again?"
She looked up at him, her gaze no longer darting away as it had when she first entered.
Lu Yunzhou stopped in his tracks: "My staying will only make things worse for you."
Gu Nanqiao took out her phone, opened the traffic notification she had just received, and turned the screen towards him.
As water levels rise along the river embankment, traffic control authorities have temporarily closed off all three exits.
She held the car keys in her palm and stared at Lu Yunzhou: "No one is allowed to drive it out tonight."
