the next morning.

When Su Qing woke up, she was still somewhat dazed.

She felt as if she were hugging a large, soft, and warm doll, which made her feel safe and secure.

She subconsciously rubbed against that warmth again, before belatedly realizing... that it wasn't a doll.

She opened her eyes and saw that she was wrapped around Jiang Ran in an extremely indecent position.

With one leg draped over her waist, one arm around her neck, and her head buried in her chest, he hugged Xiao Ran tightly like an octopus.

Jiang Ran had woken up sometime earlier and was quietly looking at her with her beautiful eyes, a faint smile on her lips.

"Sister, you're awake?" Jiang Ran's voice was slightly hoarse, a trait unique to those just waking up, yet surprisingly pleasant, like a feather dampened by morning dew gently brushing against the ear. "Did you sleep well?"

Su Qing was stunned for two seconds.

Then, as if she had been burned, she abruptly released her grip, bounced backward, and almost rolled off the edge of the bed.

"I'm so sorry, Xiao Ran!" Su Qing's face flushed red as she hurriedly sat up, a few strands of hair sticking up, her pajamas wrinkled, making her look both disheveled and adorable. "Was it because I'm a terrible sleeper that you didn't get a good night's sleep..."

Her voice grew softer and softer as she spoke, and her expression became increasingly self-reproachful.

It must be because she was restless in her sleep, hugging and clinging to Xiao Ran. She must have been so tormented by her that she couldn't move all night, and her arms might even be numb.

Seeing her sister's flustered and self-reproachful appearance, Jiang Ran finally couldn't help but laugh out loud.

She reached out and gently pinched her sister's cheek, her fingertips kneading her soft cheeks.

"No, that's all," Jiang Ran gently pinched Su Qing's cheek, her tone filled with a satisfied intimacy, "Maybe it's because you miss me too much, sister."

Su Qing's face was pinched, and her lips were squeezed into a slight pout, making her look particularly easy to bully.

She looked at her younger sister, who was laughing like a cat that had stolen some cream, and suddenly puffed out her cheeks.

"Who's the older sister?" Su Qing reached out and pinched Jiang Ran's cheek, not too hard, more like a retaliatory act of coquetry. "What kind of younger sister pinches her older sister's cheek?"

Jiang Ran was startled by her pinch, then burst out laughing.

The laughter was soft and short, but it was genuine joy, the kind of laughter that resonated from the depths of one's chest.

She didn't dodge, just let her sister pinch her, and even offered her face to Su Qing's hand.

"Yes, yes, yes, sister is sister," Jiang Ran mumbled, her words slurred from being pinched, "whatever sister says is right."

Su Qing pinched her face a few times until she was finally satisfied. She let go and looked at the two faint red marks she had left on Jiang Ran's face. She felt a little sorry for her and reached out to rub them for her.

Taking advantage of her inattention, Jiang Ran leaned over and kissed her on the cheek.

"Sister," she said casually as she sat up after the kiss, "I have some things to take care of at the company today, so I might be back a little late. If you want anything to eat, just tell the hotel staff, and they'll make it for you."

Su Qing covered her cheek, still reeling from the sneak attack, when she heard Jiang Ran say she was going out.

Her attention was immediately diverted, and her eyes widened slightly.

"Going to the company? Is Xiao Ran still managing the company?" Su Qing's tone was filled with undisguised admiration. "Xiao Ran is so amazing."

Jiang Ran looked at her bright, sparkling eyes, and her Adam's apple bobbed involuntarily.

"But you need to be careful and not overwork yourself. If you really can't take it anymore, come back," Su Qing said earnestly, her tone becoming serious. "I'm a rich woman now, I can take good care of you."

Jiang Ran was stunned for a moment.

Then she smiled, a smile that carried a deep tenderness that others couldn't understand.

"Sister, don't forget what you said."

Su Qing blinked, then suddenly remembered something.

That happened a very, very long time ago.

Back then, Jiang Ran was still a skinny little girl, and he held her hand, telling her to grow up quickly.

Su Qing asked her what she wanted to do when she grew up quickly, and she said that she could take care of her older sister when she grew up.

Su Qing laughed for a long time, pinched her nose and said, "Okay, then I'll rely on Xiao Ran to support me from now on."

That memory suddenly became very clear, so clear that Su Qing could remember what color the sunlight was that evening.

She looked down and smiled, a warm smile curving her lips.

The smile that caught Jiang Ran's eye stunned her completely.

The morning sunlight streamed in through the window, turning Su Qing's hair a light chestnut brown.

She smiled with her head down, her eyelashes drooping slightly, and her lips curving into a beautiful arc.

Jiang Ran unconsciously gripped the bed sheet tightly.

hateful.

Why does she suddenly not want to go out?

Why does my sister smile so beautifully?

She was so beautiful that she wanted to show the whole world to her sister. She was so beautiful that she wanted to lock the door, silence her phone, cancel all her plans for the day, and just stay in her room, not going anywhere, just watching her sister smile.

But she still had to go.

Jiang Ran took a deep breath and forced herself to look away from Su Qing's face.

She stood up and began to straighten her formal attire.

Su Qing also stood up, walked over to her, and reached out to help her straighten her clothes.

Su Qing worked very carefully. First, she turned up and flattened Jiang Ran's collar, then smoothed out the fine wrinkles on her shoulders with her fingers. After taking a step back to check the overall effect, she stepped forward to help her fasten the buttons on her cuffs.

Her fingers would occasionally brush against Jiang Ran's wrist, the touch warm and gentle.

Jiang Ran stood there, motionless, letting her sister do as she pleased.

She looked down at Su Qing's serious profile, at her slightly furrowed brows and focused eyes, and a part of her heart suddenly softened.

After finishing tidying up the last small detail, Su Qing looked up and was stunned.

Standing in front of her was Xiao Ran, dressed in a well-tailored formal suit. The white shirt collar was clean and neat, and the lines of the jacket flowed smoothly from the shoulders to the waist, highlighting her slender and upright figure.

The morning light peeked through the gaps in the curtains, casting a faint golden glow on her profile.

The way she stood there was no longer the little girl Su Qing remembered who needed her care, but a calm and confident person who could control her own world.

Su Qing stared blankly, with only one thought in her mind.

Her Xiao Ran is so handsome.

Jiang Ran lowered her head and looked at Su Qing, who was staring up at her blankly. Su Qing's clear eyes reflected her image, and her lips were slightly parted. She seemed to be mesmerized by something.

When Jiang Ran saw her sister in this state, her last line of defense almost collapsed.

She gently curled the corners of her lips, extended her index finger, placed the tip of her finger on Su Qing's chin, and lifted it up slightly with a gentle force.

Su Qing was forced to look up and meet Jiang Ran's slightly narrowed eyes.

Those eyes flickered with a hint of amusement, a hint of cunning, and a hint of unfathomable emotion that only Jiang Ran herself knew.

"What's wrong?" Jiang Ran's voice lowered, carrying a languid and alluring tone completely different from her usual self. "Is this little woman captivated by her own sister?"

Su Qing stared blankly at her, her face instantly turning bright red.

Before Su Qing could react, Jiang Ran leaned down and whispered in her ear, her lips almost touching Su Qing's earlobe, "Sister, don't you feel like a gentle wife seeing her boyfriend off to work in the morning?"

Su Qing felt her face getting even hotter, so hot it was almost hot enough to fry an egg.

She snapped back to her senses and raised her hand as if to hit Jiang Ran: "Jiang Xiaoran! You..."

"Ah, it's time, it's time to go."

Jiang Ran nimbly dodged Su Qing's slap, then cheerfully picked up her bag from the cabinet by the door. As she put on her shoes, she turned back and waved to Su Qing, "Be a good girl and wait for me at home, okay?"

"Stop right there!"

Jiang Ran smiled and closed the door.

The moment the door closed, the smile on her face seemed to be gently wiped away by an invisible hand, replaced by a layer of indifferent and aloof coldness.

She lowered her eyes, her eyelashes concealing all the emotions within them. The intimate, playful demeanor she had shown in front of her sister vanished without a trace, as if it had never existed.

The corridor lights were a cool white, shining on her dark suit, making her look like a knife sheathed, quiet and restrained, yet exuding an imposing aura.

Only the unconscious movements of her left hand revealed the lingering warmth in her heart; her thumb was gently, repeatedly, fiddling with the platinum bracelet on her right wrist, with very light force, as if afraid of damaging something precious.

She glanced down at the chain on her wrist, her lips twitching slightly, so much so that it was almost imperceptible.

Then she withdrew her hand and walked towards the elevator.

Footsteps echoed in the corridor, steady and aloof.
