Chapter 428 Fellow Villagers Meet
Outside the city, in a certain town in a certain district, a truck is parked in front of a garbage dump outside a security company.
With the rear of the vehicle facing the garbage dump, a person wearing a baseball cap and a drab gray factory uniform was dumping boxes of garbage into the dump from the vehicle.
His movements were unhurried and rhythmic; someone who didn't know better might have thought he was feeding the garbage dump.
"Hey! What's wrong with you?" Several tall, burly men sitting outside the security company walked over. The leader, called Da Niu, pointed at the garbage truck driver and yelled, "Are your eyes on the soles of your feet? The garbage bins are full, why are you still dumping garbage?"
Da Niu's henchmen also started hurling insults at the man, each one filled with righteous indignation, as if the garbage dump were their family's ancestral property.
The worker stood there, his face flushed, timid and hesitant, as if he didn't know what to do. He looked so honest that you just wanted to bully him.
"Hey, where did you come from?" Da Niu shouted even louder when he saw that this guy was obviously an honest and easy-to-bully type.
"Brother, I work at that factory up ahead!" The driver pointed ahead to an industrial area densely packed with factories.
"Since it's over there, there's a garbage dump over there, why are you dumping it here?" Da Niu shouted again.
"Our supervisor said that we have to dump this garbage further away, otherwise the environmental protection department will see it and fine us!" the driver said honestly.
"Good grief, your supervisor told you to dump it further away, and you dump it here?" Da Niu continued to hurl insults, repeatedly poking the worker's head with his finger. Every time he poked the worker's head, the worker's head would twitch, like playing whack-a-mole.
One of Da Niu's henchmen curiously opened a cardboard box and immediately exclaimed in surprise, "Brother Niu, look! It's clothes! It's all clothes!"
The henchman then pulled out a garment, tore open the transparent plastic wrapping, and put it on.
The clothes were new, of high quality, and the style was novel and unique. However, they were obviously too small for this chubby follower. The jacket hung half-up like a vest, making him look ridiculous, like a bear wearing children's clothes.
Upon seeing this, Da Niu forgot about cursing the man and quickly stepped forward, shoved the follower aside, and tore open the cardboard box to take a look!
Good heavens, clothes! Boxes and boxes of clothes! And look at the labels, they look really high-end! This isn't trash, it's like a windfall, all packaged up!
"These clothes are so nice, why did you throw them away?" Da Niu asked the worker.
"Our factory does export business. This batch of clothes was ordered from a foreign customer, but we used the wrong material and the design did not meet the customer's requirements, so they refused to accept it, and this batch of clothes became waste!" the worker explained helplessly.
"You can also get rid of them as clearance items. Aren't there many stalls on the street saying things like 'overstocked inventory' or 'clearance sale'?" Da Niu's follower chimed in, seemingly someone who frequents street stalls.
"Brother, you're joking. This is a factory under a big brand. How could we do something that would ruin our reputation? So we'd rather throw it away than sell it randomly!" the worker said with a smile.
Da Niu looked at the cardboard boxes, then at the worker, and suddenly his eyes lit up. His gaze was like that of someone who hadn't eaten for three days suddenly seeing a roast chicken.
The henchman wanted to say something more, but suddenly saw Da Niu glaring at him, so he quickly shut his mouth and dared not make a sound.
The henchman knew in his heart that Brother Niu was about to "make a move".
"Brother!" Da Niu put on a friendly expression, putting his arm around the worker's dirty factory uniform, and said, "Your job must be tough!"
"Yes, I still have two trucks there. I've looked in several places, but none of them will let me unload. I'm so worried! If things continue like this, I'm afraid I'll have to work overtime for the factory for free again tonight!" the worker said with a distressed expression, his face more bitter than a bitter gourd.
"Hey bro, it's alright. We're all just migrant workers, and it's not easy for anyone to make a living. Judging from your accent, you're from Northeast China, right?" Da Niu started trying to get on their good side.
"Yes, it's in the Northeast!" The worker nodded blankly.
"Oh my god, what a coincidence! I'm from Northeast China too!" Da Niu said in a broken Northeastern accent, which was even more chaotic than Northeastern stew.
"Ah, it's someone from my hometown! Where in Northeast China are you from?" the worker asked with a happy expression.
"Where is it? Jilin!" Da Niu blurted out casually.
"What a coincidence, brother! Me too!" The worker laughed, a smile so simple and honest it was heartbreaking.
"Haha, you bet! What a coincidence!" Da Niu laughed, then patted his chest and said, "Brother, as the saying goes, at home you rely on your parents, but when you're away from home you rely on your fellow villagers. I've agreed to this, no problem, just pour it in here!"
"But it'll be full soon!" the worker said hesitantly, pointing to the garbage pit.
"It's alright, I have friends at the waste disposal site. One phone call and they'll take them all away. You still have two truckloads, right? Bring them here too!" Da Niu thumped his chest loudly.
The worker was immediately moved to tears: "Brother, you're such a good person!"
"Hehe, why are you being so formal! Brothers, come on, lend a hand and help my fellow villager clean up all the trash!" Da Niu shouted.
"Alright, all set!"
By this time, Da Niu's henchmen realized that their boss, Niu, definitely wanted to take this batch of "junk" to the street for a big sale and make a quick buck.
The henchmen, thinking that the boss gets the meat and the underlings get the soup, naturally worked hard.
What would normally take one worker half an hour to complete was done in less than ten minutes, with all the cardboard boxes piled up on the garbage bin. Their efficiency was even better than that of a moving company.
Looking at the empty carriage, the worker said with immense gratitude, "Brothers, thank you so much!"
"Don't mention it! There are still two more truckloads left. I'll see this through to the end and bring them over quickly!" Da Niu thumped his chest loudly. "We'll take them all!"
"Well, I'm so sorry, brother. You're all sweaty. I think I should find somewhere else to take a dump. You're working too hard!" the worker said apologetically.
"Hey, don't be so polite with me. We're from the same hometown. If I don't help you, who will? If you keep being polite, I'll get angry!" Da Niu said, his face flushed with anger, and he really got angry. His expression could change in an instant.
"Okay, okay, big brother, don't worry, I'll listen to you, I'll listen to everything you say, okay!" the worker quickly said.
"Then hurry up and go!" Da Niu waved his hand, acting as if a leader was seeing off guests after an inspection.
"Okay!" the worker said, and happily drove off in his empty truck.
Watching the truck drive away, Da Niu smiled, and his followers smiled too, thinking to themselves: This silly kid is so easy to fool!
When Da Niu saw his several smiling subordinates, his expression faltered. He shouted, "What are you laughing at? Hurry up and get a few more people to move all the cardboard boxes into the company! Be quick, and do it smartly!"
Sure enough, about ten minutes later, the worker drove up in another truck, which was still filled with tightly packed cardboard boxes.
Da Niu immediately darted forward, like an expert inspector of goods, tore open a cardboard box, peeked inside, and immediately grinned, saying, "Everyone hurry up and help my brother throw all this garbage down here."
"Alright!" Da Niu's men responded in unison, and got to work with flying colors. They threw and caught the balls, and for the first time in history, they were so united. Their teamwork was simply seamless.
Seeing this energetic scene, the worker was also delighted and wanted to help, but he couldn't find a way to get involved. In the end, he could only stand on the sidelines anxiously, repeatedly saying "thank you, thank you."
When the third car arrived, Da Niu pulled him aside, offered him a cigarette, and said, "Brother, you've had a long day, take a break!"
The worker, flattered, lit the cigarette, skillfully puffed out a cloud of smoke, and then said somewhat embarrassedly, "They're all busy; it wouldn't be appropriate for me to just rest on the side!"
"What's good or bad about it? These guys usually just fight and kill each other, and they waste their energy on women. This is a good opportunity for them to get some exercise! Don't worry!" Da Niu said casually.
Da Niu's words seemed to startle the worker, who almost dropped the cigarette in his hand and stared at Da Niu speechlessly.
"Hehe, brother, don't be afraid, it's alright. I may be a hoodlum, but I'm loyal. If you ever need anything, just give me a call, and I'll do anything for you!" Da Niu said, quickly pulling a business card from his pocket and handing it to the worker. "This is my business card. Call the number on this if you need anything—collecting debts, seeking revenge, borrowing money from loan sharks, anything. Most people pay full price, but I'll give you a 20% discount since we're from the same hometown!"
"Uh, uh!" The worker seemed genuinely frightened, trembling as he took the business card. As soon as the goods were unloaded, he jumped into the truck and drove off as if his backside was on fire.
However, when he got on the bus, perhaps because he was too flustered, he knocked off his baseball cap, revealing a shiny bald head that shone brightly in the sunlight like a light bulb.
He didn't even bother to pick up his hat, and sped off in his car.
Da Niu was stunned for a moment, then burst into laughter: "Good heavens, with that kind of guts, you dare to shave your head like that? How shameful! But then again, a bald head does save electricity; you could use it as a light bulb even in broad daylight!"
