Chapter 369 Cave Raid
Jiang Zhiyu pushed her poison-type ability to its limit, and a layer of pale blue poisonous mist, almost invisible to the naked eye, silently drifted into the cave entrance.
The two waited outside for more than half an hour until the noise inside gradually subsided. Only then did Zhuge Yunhe and Jiang Zhiyu walk towards the cave entrance.
This is a natural cave, hidden behind bushes halfway up the mountain, a vast distance from where tourists can reach it, and completely closed to the public. The entrance is completely obscured by thorns and wild vines; you wouldn't notice it until you get right up to it.
The two walked in one after the other, and there were six people lying haphazardly on the ground.
Jiang Zhiyu walked over and squatted down to examine them. They were all middle-aged men of short stature, dressed in dark, coarse cloth clothes, with no special features on their faces. She kicked one of them and cursed, "Shorty, you've got some nerve."
Just then, Seventeen's voice suddenly exploded: "Host! Enter the space! Quickly!"
Before Jiang Zhiyu could react, her body instinctively dodged to the left. A flash of cold light grazed her left arm, immediately tearing a ten-centimeter-long gash, from which drops of blood dripped down her fingertips.
Jiang Zhiyu didn't even blink. She took out a pistol from her spatial storage and fired a shot at the man.
Unexpectedly, that person dodged it.
Jiang Zhiyu's eyes turned cold. She teleported in front of him and fired several more shots. The gunshots exploded in the cave, making the stone walls vibrate. The man dodged three shots, but the fourth finally hit him in the chest, and he fell straight down.
It took Zhuge Yunhe a long time to recover from the sudden turn of events.
Jiang Zhiyu shouted sternly, "Old Zhuge, don't move! Lie down!"
She cursed under her breath for being careless. She thought that with her poison-based ability, no one could possibly escape the current concentration of toxins. But it turned out that there were people in the cave outside the area covered by the poisonous fog; she didn't know if they had taken precautions beforehand or simply hadn't inhaled it at all.
She immediately used her mental powers to scan the entire cave from beginning to end.
Sure enough, a person was hanging upside down like a bat on the rock wall at the top of the cave. The person thought they were perfectly hidden and stared down without moving.
Without saying a word, Jiang Zhiyu teleported over and shot him in the forehead.
The person fell from the ceiling, hit the ground with a dull thud, and then lay still.
"There are three left."
The remaining three realized that those above had been spotted and there was no way they could escape. They exchanged a glance and charged towards Jiang Zhiyu.
Jiang Zhiyu fired a burst of bullets, but only managed to hit one person's arm. Even as he was shot, the man continued to lunge forward with incredible ferocity. Seeing that Jiang Zhiyu was unable to spare any more men, one of them turned and charged straight at Zhuge Yunhe.
Just as Zhuge Yunhe was about to use his magic, Jiang Zhiyu pulled him away with the vines she activated, dragging him behind her.
Another ninja pulled out a pistol and fired at Jiang Zhiyu.
Jiang Zhiyu reacted swiftly, pulling the wounded ninja beside her in front of her as a shield, bullets thudding into his body. Taking advantage of the moment, she used vines to move Zhuge Yunhe to a safe corner, yelling at him, "Get cover!"
Zhuge Yunhe immediately slipped behind a large rock and hid his body inside.
Jiang Zhiyu was absolutely furious this time.
She teleported several times, so fast that even afterimages were invisible, and knocked one person down. Then, with two more steps, she kicked the second person before they could react, sending them flying against the stone wall and sliding down.
There's only one left.
As the man watched his companions fall one by one, fear finally appeared in his eyes. He turned to run, but Jiang Zhiyu's vines had already sprung up from the ground, coiling around his limbs like snakes and hoisting him up.
Jiang Zhiyu stepped forward, pried open his mouth with vines, and examined his teeth one by one.
Regardless of which one is poisonous, none will be left behind.
The vines ripped out all of the man's teeth, scattering them on the ground with a clattering sound. The man fainted from the pain.
Jiang Zhiyu then waved to Zhuge Yunhe: "Come out, it's over now."
Zhuge Yunhe emerged from behind the rock, dusted himself off, glanced at the five people lying on the ground, and shook his head: "The enemy actually sent five ninjas; they have quite the ambition."
Zhuge Yunhe walked over and noticed the still-bleeding wound on Jiang Zhiyu's left arm. He frowned and said, "Your arm is badly injured."
Jiang Zhiyu glanced down; her sleeve was soaked in blood. A ten-centimeter gash, the skin torn open, looked quite frightening. She herself hadn't felt anything; during the fight, her adrenaline was pumping, and she hadn't felt any pain. But now that it had stopped, the pain was surging up.
"It's nothing, just a superficial wound."
"A superficial injury?" Zhuge Yunhe walked over, grabbed her arm, and examined it. His expression wasn't good. "You're really taking this too lightly, girl."
Jiang Zhiyu withdrew her hand and took out a bunch of things from her spatial storage, arranging them on a nearby stone. There was a clean white cloth, a small bottle of medicinal powder, a roll of thread, and a needle.
Zhuge Yunhe stared at the medicine for injuries for a moment, but didn't ask any further questions.
Jiang Zhiyu first sprinkled the medicinal powder on the wound to stop the bleeding and disinfect it, which made her gasp in pain. Then she picked up a needle, threaded it, and began to sew up the wound.
Zhuge Yunhe's eyelids twitched as he looked at it: "You...sewed this yourself?"
"Otherwise what?" Jiang Zhiyu asked without looking up. "It's not like I haven't sewed before."
Her hands were very steady, and she stitched each needle with great skill.
Zhuge Yunhe watched from the side, hesitating to speak several times, but finally just sighed. This girl's skills were indeed beyond their comprehension, but seeing the skill with which she stitched the wound, he felt a pang of heartache.
After stitching, Jiang Zhiyu wrapped the wound with a white cloth and had Zhuge Yunhe tie a knot. She moved her arm a couple of times and said, "It's alright, it doesn't affect my movement."
She took out a bottle of spiritual spring water from her spatial storage, unscrewed the cap, and drank it down. The spiritual spring water flowed down her throat, cool and sweet, making her feel much more comfortable. The bleeding from the wound on her left arm stopped at a visible speed, and the edges of the wound began to tighten.
Zhuge Yunhe stared at the porcelain vase for a moment, then at her healing wound. He opened his mouth, but ultimately only said, "You're quite the surprise-maker, aren't you? No wonder that kid Ji Buzhi has been flipping through ancient texts trying to learn from them. It's definitely not within our field of study, so it's understandable that he doesn't know where to start."
Jiang Zhiyu put the bottle away and stood up: "Alright, quickly search this cave to see if there's anything else. The person is gone, but we don't know if anyone else has come after them. We still haven't found Xu Yunzi."
Her gaze fell into the depths of the cave: "Let's examine what these people left behind."
These people had clearly been living in the cave for some time; there was a makeshift stove on the ground, along with uneaten food and supplies. Inside, some things were covered with a tarpaulin, with a few stones weighed down by the corners of the tarpaulin.
She went over and pulled the awning up.
Inside was a row of pulse-suppressing nails, still inscribed with runes.
Jiang Zhiyu first stored them all in her spatial storage. Seeing Zhuge Yunhe still standing there in a daze, she turned around and asked, "Hey, old man, are you alright?"
Zhuge Yunhe glared at her, annoyed. "What could possibly happen to me? I've also studied Tai Chi and know some magic techniques. I just wasn't paying attention."
The two searched the cave thoroughly, inside and out, but found nothing. They also searched the surrounding area but found nothing unusual.
Jiang Zhiyu asked, somewhat puzzled, "Where did Xu Yunzi go?"
She thought for a moment, then a smirk appeared on her lips: "Could it be that I've been forced to have a baby again?"
Zhuge Yunhe retorted, "If my senior brother heard you say that, he'd be furious."
Jiang Zhiyu touched the bloodstain on her neck where she had been slashed earlier, and clicked her tongue: "Alright, we'll just wait here tonight. Their people will definitely come back."
......
The two waited until nightfall, and sure enough, they heard rustling sounds coming from outside the cave. The sound of branches breaking was so faint that an ordinary person couldn't hear it at all.
The unexpected person was actually Xu Yunzi.
Xu Yunzi first carefully surveyed the area around the cave entrance, and then lay in ambush at the entrance.
Jiang Zhiyu understood; it must be Xu Yunzi who had followed the trail. She immediately revealed herself.
Xu Yunzi instinctively cast a spell, and Jiang Zhiyu dodged to the side. Looking back, he saw that a piece of the rock behind him had been slashed away, the cut as smooth as a mirror.
She immediately called out, "Master Xuyun, it's me!"
Immediately afterwards, Zhuge Yunhe also came out of the cave.
Xu Yunzi breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing that it was two people: "Why are you two here?"
Jiang Zhiyu crossed her arms: "Your junior brother missed you; he was worried because you couldn't reach him!"
Xu Yunzi slowly exhaled: "I fought with them some time ago, and I came here tonight to destroy their Pulse-Suppressing Nails."
As he spoke, he walked into the cave.
Looking at the people lying haphazardly in the cave, he counted them carefully, then frowned: "Two are missing."
Jiang Zhiyu and Zhuge Yunhe exchanged a glance, both revealing understanding.
Xu Yunzi didn't press further, his gaze shifting to the food on the ground. He hadn't eaten properly for several days. He looked at the two of them: "Have you eaten? There's some food here."
As he spoke, he reached out to take it.
Jiang Zhiyu immediately pulled out a cooked meal from her spatial storage and handed it over: "Don't eat those on the ground, they're all poisoned."
Xu Yunzi paused for a moment before turning around and taking the food Jiang Zhiyu handed him. Opening it, he found a box full of xiaolongbao (soup dumplings). Without any pretense, he picked them up and began to eat them heartily.
Jiang Zhiyu sat opposite him, watching him eat, and couldn't help but speak up: "When are you going to change this habit of running away every time something happens? We're not the only country with special skills like you. Discuss things first. One person's strength is ultimately limited. Always trying to take on everything only gets you into trouble."
She paused, then a smirk played on her lips: "What, you want to have a baby again?"
Xu Yunzi choked, his eyes rolling back in his head.
Jiang Zhiyu quickly took out a bottle of water, unscrewed the cap, and handed it to him.
Xu Yunzi gulped down a lot of water before catching his breath, then snorted irritably, "Did you put all the poison you absorbed on your lips?"
After finishing his meal, he wiped his hands and continued, "There are two more people; they'll be coming tomorrow morning. They both go to plant the nails at five in the morning."
He looked around the cave and frowned. "Where are their nails?"
Jiang Zhiyu shrugged: "I took it. I don't know how to deal with it, you can handle it later. Those runes on it move like snakes, it's kind of disgusting."
Xu Yunzi's lips twitched slightly: "Good. When they arrive in the morning, tie up those two as well, then we can go dig out the nails."
Jiang Zhiyu glanced at him: "By the time you go dig, the daylilies will be cold. Old Zhuge and I have already finished digging."
Xu Yunzi lowered his head and said sullenly, "It seems I really am old and useless."
Zhuge Yunhe walked over, sat down next to Xu Yunzi, and patted him on the shoulder: "Senior brother, don't say that. This girl is doing it on purpose."
Jiang Zhiyu stood up and stretched: "After you finish eating, get some rest. We'll tie those two up and head back tomorrow morning."
