Chapter 392 Accompanying the Children
When the two went downstairs again, the area was already full of people.
The two little ones were playing with building blocks next to Grandma Song when they saw their parents come down together. Their eyes lit up and they pounced on them faster than the other.
"Mother!"
Song Zhiyao was the first to rush forward and hug Jiang Zhiyu's leg.
Jiang Zhiyu scooped her up and held her in his arms. Song Yanzhou then walked over to his taciturn son and picked him up as well. Song Zhizheng wrapped his arms around his father's neck, his little face pressed against his shoulder, and the corners of his mouth turned up in a big smile.
Jiang Zhiyu casually asked the two of them.
"Have you been behaving well at kindergarten lately? Are you getting along well with your classmates?"
The two little ones nodded in unison.
"Um!"
Jiang Zhiyu smiled.
"You did a good job. Were your special needs friends well-behaved?"
Song Zhiyao immediately nodded.
Yes! Little Cloud has been very well-behaved lately!
Song Zhizheng nodded and added quietly.
"The little vine is good too."
Grandma Song's eyes welled up with tears as she looked at the family of four, a rare sight to be together. She immediately pulled out some money and various certificates from her pocket and stuffed them into Jiang Zhiyu's hand.
"Zhiyu, Yanzhou took the day off today too. You've both been so busy lately, neglecting the kids. Let's take them out for a walk today. Take all the money and coupons with you, buy the kids some clothes or something. We don't lack these things, but what the kids miss is the experience."
Jiang Zhiyu and Song Yanzhou exchanged a glance.
Indeed, they are both busy, and the child has been left at home for too long.
"Then today we'll take them shopping for clothes and then to the amusement park," Song Yanzhou said.
Song Zhizheng quickly spoke up.
"Mom, I want to go to the zoo again!"
Song Zhiyao immediately echoed.
"Zoo! Zoo!"
"Okay, we'll go today." Jiang Zhiyu nodded.
……
As the jeep drove out of the compound, the two little ones were already happily perched by the car window, waving to their friends in the yard.
"Tiedan! These are my parents! I'm going to the zoo today!"
"Xiaomei! These are my parents! I'm going shopping today!"
Sitting in the back seat, Jiang Zhiyu listened to the two children's cheerful shouts and felt a pang of sadness. The two children usually lived in the compound and rarely saw other children their own age. Perhaps it was because of this that they felt something was missing, and that's why they were so eager to show off to the whole world whenever they had the chance.
She made up her mind that she would spend more time with them in the future.
……
The department store was packed with people; it was the weekend, and it was incredibly crowded.
Song Yanzhou led the way, his height of over 1.8 meters, broad shoulders and thick back, his military bearing was still evident even in civilian clothes, and he carved a path through the crowd. Jiang Zhiyu followed behind, holding Song Zhiyao's hand. Song Yanzhou would glance back every now and then to make sure the mother and her two children were in sight.
"Mommy, this is pretty!" Song Zhiyao leaned over the glass counter, staring intently at a little cotton-padded jacket with a red bow, her eyes wide open.
Jiang Zhiyu asked the salesperson to take it down and compare it, then nodded.
"Mom will let you try it on."
It wasn't time for her to wear a cotton-padded coat yet, but Jiang Zhiyu simply put it on her daughter. The red bow on her shoulder swayed back and forth, making her little face look rosy.
Song Yanzhou watched from the side, unable to suppress the smirk on his face.
"purchase."
In short, it was decisive and efficient.
Jiang Zhiyu rolled her eyes at him.
All you ever do is buy things.
"If it looks good, I'll buy it." Song Yanzhou said matter-of-factly, "My daughter looks good in anything."
Song Zhiyao proudly put her hands on her hips and raised her chin at her younger brother.
Song Zhizheng stood to the side, looking calm, but her little hands kept tugging at the hem of her clothes.
Jiang Zhiyu squatted down to look at him.
"What does Zhengzheng want?"
Song Zhizheng hesitated for a moment, then pointed to a small military green jacket in the corner of the counter.
"that."
Why do you want that?
"Just like Dad." His eyes lit up as he said this.
Song Yanzhou picked him up and spun him around above his head.
"Good lad, you have good taste! Just as handsome as your dad!"
Song Zhizheng giggled as he was lifted up, his little face turning as red as a ripe apple.
After buying clothes for both children and a pair of little leather shoes for each of them, Song Yanzhou was carrying large and small bags, looking like a walking sales cart. Jiang Zhiyu walked ahead, glancing back at him every now and then, and couldn't help but laugh at his smug look.
Are you tired?
"Not tired." Song Yanzhou slung the bag over his arm twice more. "I can buy ten more."
……
At the zoo, the two little ones were like wild horses that had broken free of their reins, never stopping since they entered.
"Tiger! Big tiger!" Song Zhiyao leaned on the bars, waving at the lazy big cat in the cage. "Big tiger, look over here! Look over here!"
The tiger didn't even lift its eyelids.
Song Zhizheng whispered from the side.
"It ignores you."
"It's tired," Song Zhiyao insisted. "It definitely wants to go out and play; it's so pitiful to be locked up inside."
Song Yanzhou squatted down, picked up his son, and made him see more clearly.
"Zhengzheng, look, that's a monkey."
On Monkey Mountain, a troop of monkeys huddled together, fighting fiercely over a single biscuit. A little monkey rode on the back of a larger monkey, who bared its teeth. Song Zhizheng watched for a while, then suddenly turned to his father and asked him very seriously.
"Dad, do monkeys fight?"
"Yes, just like you kindergarten kids," Song Yanzhou said with a smile.
Song Zhizheng thought for a moment, his face serious.
"I don't fight."
"Yes, our Zhengzheng is the best behaved." Jiang Zhiyu patted his head.
Song Zhiyao had already hopped to the front of the next cage.
"Peacock! Mommy, peacock! Look at the peacock!"
She waved frantically at the brightly feathered bird in the cage. The peacock, disturbed by the noise, took a few slow steps, shook its tail, but did not spread its tail feathers.
Song Zhiyao pouted in disappointment.
"It won't let me see it."
"Only male peacocks display their plumage; this one is probably female," said Song Yanzhou.
How did you know?
"Dad guessed."
Song Zhiyao snorted.
"Dad is lying."
The whole family burst into laughter.
When we got to the panda enclosure, the two little ones finally calmed down. The round, black-and-white panda was engrossed in munching on a bamboo shoot, and the two children pressed their faces against the glass, watching intently for a full twenty minutes without saying a word.
"Mom," Song Zhiyao suddenly whispered, "Can I have one as a pet someday?"
Jiang Zhiyu squatted down and hugged her.
"Pandas are national treasures and can't be kept as pets. But Mom can bring you to see them often."
"It's a promise then." Song Zhiyao held up her little finger. "Pinky promise."
Jiang Zhiyu extended her little finger and hooked it with hers.
"Pinky promise."
As the sun slowly sank below the horizon, it bathed the zoo's iron cages in an orange glow. Song Yanzhou held the exhausted Song Zhizheng in one arm and held Jiang Zhiyu's hand in the other. In Jiang Zhiyu's arms lay Song Zhiyao, her cheeks flushed from sleep.
The two little ones were each clutching a small bag of uneaten cookies.
"Dad," Song Zhizheng mumbled sleepily, leaning on Song Yanzhou's shoulder, "we'll come again tomorrow."
"good."
"Come the day after tomorrow too."
"good."
"I come every day."
Song Yanzhou chuckled and bounced him closer to his chest.
"Dad doesn't have that many days off to come every day."
Jiang Zhiyu chimed in from the side.
"It's okay, I'll wait until you're on vacation."
Song Yanzhou turned to look at her; the setting sun cast a soft glow on her face.
"good."
