Ms. Gojo thought she was dating an ordinary person's boyfriend.
Chapter 64 "Xiao Cheng Possesses Natural Immunity to Curses"
Click.
The lock clicked softly, and the automatic sensor light in the entryway turned on.
The night breeze rushed into the warm entryway along with Sumi Kichikawa as she pushed open the door.
He tugged at his collar and loosened his shoulders, wearing only a slightly thin dark casual outfit.
"I'm back."
"Welcome back—!"
Immediately, Gojo Satoru's long, lazy voice echoed from the living room: "If Sumire had come back ten minutes later, I would have been mentally devoured by the last half of the pudding on the coffee table."
The white-haired young man sat cross-legged on the sofa, holding a large cat-shaped cushion in his arms, his chin resting on the edge, staring longingly at him.
But just as Sumiki Kichikawa bent down to change her shoes, Satoru Gojo's eyes were fixed on Sumiki Kichikawa's arm.
Within the unobstructed view of six eyes, a faint yet glaringly foul odor was tightly wrapped around the back of Kikawa Sumi's right hand.
The foul odor spread across the finger bones and the side of the wrist, with fine, arc-shaped edges that resembled... bite marks.
Gojo Satoru's smile was flawless, but his eyes turned cold in an instant.
Residue.
It's at least level two filth.
He could tell at a glance that these were marks left by the cursed spirit's bite. But what made his heart sink was that, under the repeated analysis of the Six-Eyed, the skin on Kikawa Sumi's hand was completely intact, without a single wound or swelling.
It is completely illogical that an ordinary person without any spells or the ability to see the cursed spirit could be directly attacked by a level-two cursed spirit without suffering any damage from the curse or even breaking the skin.
Gojo Satoru's fingers unconsciously clenched around the edge of the pillow.
Xiao Cheng seems to possess some kind of natural immunity to curses that even he himself is unaware of.
And what will the rotten oranges do if this almost miraculous "specialness" is discovered by the higher-ups in the sorcery world?
The answer is self-evident.
They would capture Sumi Kichikawa for research, dismantle her as an experimental subject, and treat her without hesitation, just like any other "useful alien."
Thinking of this, Gojo Satoru slightly tightened his fingers.
"Are you going to eat it, or be eaten by it?" Sumi Kichikawa hung up her coat and walked down into the entryway.
"It's mentally devouring me." Gojo Satoru quickly concealed the coldness in his eyes, tilted his head, and skillfully acted coquettishly, "So how is the doctor going to give me emergency treatment?"
"Confiscate the sweets and observe them for 24 hours." Sumi Kichikawa walked to the coffee table and casually opened the cabinet door.
Sure enough, the candy bag was neatly clipped and put back inside.
"The candy really was put away." Sumi Kichikawa raised an eyebrow. "You did well tonight."
"Of course, I'm very reliable." Gojo Satoru proudly raised his chin. "So, what's the reward?"
"You're allowed to have two cream puffs tomorrow."
Five.
"two."
"Three."
"Two and a half."
"Why is there always only half!"
"Because you can't help but eat half of it again."
Gojo Satoru clutched his chest in pain: "Sumi, you're getting more and more adept at being my sweet tooth."
A faint smile appeared in Sumire Kikawa's eyes as she turned and walked towards the bathroom: "I'm going to wash my hands. I'll save your half of the pudding when I come out."
The sound of running water soon filled the bathroom.
Satoru Gojo sat on the sofa, his gaze passing over the half-open door, fixed on the right hand that was being repeatedly rubbed under the running water.
The remnants left by the cursed spirit cannot be washed away with ordinary water.
As he watched Sumi Kikawa calmly dry her hands with a towel, seemingly oblivious, Gojo Satoru's emotions grew increasingly complex.
He could sense that Cheng not only knew nothing about power, but was also completely unaware that there was a ring of hideous "bite marks" covering the back of his hand.
"What's wrong? Why are you staring at me?" Sumi Kichikawa walked back to the living room and picked up half a pudding from the coffee table.
"We're waiting for the doctor to keep his promise." Gojo Satoru looked away, his eyes crinkling with a smile.
Kikawa Sumi used a clean spoon to scoop a small spoonful of pudding and put it in her mouth. The rich sweetness instantly exploded on her tongue, making her frown slightly: "Too sweet."
He handed the spoon and pudding cup back to Gojo Satoru.
Their fingertips briefly touched in the air. Gojo Satoru took the spoon, drawing out his words, "You complained about Sweet Sumi but you still ate it, so it's because you felt sorry for me waiting so long, isn't it?"
"Yes, after all, someone's eyes looked particularly aggrieved." Sumi Kichikawa sat down next to him, her posture relaxed.
The TV screen lit up, playing a very slow-paced romance movie, with snowflakes falling all around.
Gojo Satoru sank deeper into the sofa: "I picked this place on purpose. There are no game consoles that chase people, and no ghosts that suddenly jump out. Doctor can rest easy tonight."
Kikawa Sumi's hand holding the remote control paused slightly as she turned to look at him: "Are you concerned about what happened tonight?"
"Of course I care." Gojo Satoru rested his chin on his hand, staring intently at him. "How could I not worry about Sumi coming back so late?"
"It was just a false alarm," Sumi Kichikawa explained calmly. "A child suddenly experienced a heart rate abnormality, and coincidentally, the equipment in the ward was experiencing electromagnetic interference. The child is asleep now, and the equipment has been handed over to professionals."
"A professional?" Gojo Satoru raised an eyebrow.
"Hmm, the external security consultant contacted by the Equipment Department." Sumi Kikawa recalled, "Blonde, wearing strange goggles, and a light-colored suit."
Gojo Satoru: "......"
Such an accurate description.
"Sounds reliable, blond security advisor," Gojo Satoru said, barely suppressing a laugh.
"He is indeed very professional. He said he would check the lines on the outside, and there shouldn't be any more problems tonight," said Sumi Kichikawa gently.
Gojo Satoru knew that Sumi Kikawa must have avoided the more crucial part.
Since Nanami arrived at the scene, it means that the actual situation was definitely not as easy as Sumi Kichikawa said, but he still chose to keep it a secret to put Gojo Satoru at ease.
The most powerful sorcerer in the world, whose existence could be turned upside down and no one dared to interfere, was being carefully kept out of "danger" by an ordinary pediatric doctor.
Gojo Satoru found it extremely funny.
But beneath the smile, a soft, warm feeling welled up inside, making his throat tighten.
"What about Cheng?" he asked.
"I?"
"Hmm." Gojo Satoru leaned forward slightly, his pale blue eyes appearing particularly focused in the warm light. "The hospital is so chaotic, the family members and nurses are all panicked. Was Sumi bumped into by someone? Or... scratched on the hand by a child?"
"No," Sumi Kichikawa replied.
"Really not?" Gojo Satoru pressed, his eyes almost obstinate.
Kikawa Sumi looked at him and suddenly smiled helplessly. He took the initiative to spread his hands out, palms up, and generously offered them to Gojo Satoru.
"Look, I'm really not injured."
The palms are clean, and the skin is fair and slender.
But in Gojo Satoru's vision, that ring of black filth still glaringly clung to the outer side of Sumi's skin.
"Want me to check your pulse?" Seeing that he was staring at her hand, Kikawa Sumi moved it forward a little further and said half-jokingly, "So you don't think I've suffered some internal injury and am secretly coughing up blood without telling you."
Gojo Satoru's long eyelashes trembled.
He did not refuse this opportunity that came to him. He extended his fingers and, with extreme restraint, gently placed them on the side of Kikawa Sumi's wrist.
The skin beneath my fingertips is warm and dry.
There were no signs of the curse's corruption, nor any discomfort. The filth seemed to be nothing more than a layer of harmless ash, merely remaining on the surface of his skin, unable to penetrate in the slightest.
Gojo Satoru lowered his eyes, his expression unreadable.
Kikawa Sumi looked down at the fingers resting on her wrist and sensed that Gojo Satoru's expression was more tense than usual. She knew that Gojo Satoru was worried about her.
The feeling of being cherished by another person made Sumi Kisakawa's heart skip a beat.
With a slight flick of his wrist, he turned the tables and grabbed Gojo Satoru's wrist.
Gojo Satoru was taken aback for a moment.
Kikawa Sumi's fingertips lingered on his pulse for a moment, then she looked up at him with a half-smile: "Your pulse is a little fast. Satoru, you're anxious."
"Huh? Really?" Gojo Satoru tried to bluff his way out of it.
"Yes, the doctor's diagnosis is never wrong." Sumire released his hand, her tone certain. "Based on my judgment, the prescription for treating anxiety is to reduce sweets and to go to bed before midnight tonight."
"This is definitely a personal revenge!" Gojo Satoru protested.
"It's a doctor's order." Sumire Kikawa smiled and pushed the remaining half cup of pudding in front of him. "Eat it, and go to bed early after you finish."
The movie played slowly on the television screen, the snow scene reflected on the two people's profiles, and the atmosphere in the living room finally relaxed completely.
But both of them had something on their minds.
