White Pagoda Mountain.

Zheng Sheng climbed the long staircase and soon reached the top of the mountain, where he saw a white pagoda temple.

Look up.

In the center of the temple stands a tall white stupa, octagonal in shape and seven stories high, over ten meters tall. It has a green roof and a round base, typical of Tibetan and Han styles. Moreover, weathered bronze bells hang on each side of the stupa, occasionally ringing out a clear sound in the wind.

Looking around, there weren't many people in the temple.

Zheng Sheng entered the temple and arrived at the white pagoda that bore the marks of time. His eyes were constantly scanning his surroundings warily, and his whole body was tense.

He wasn't afraid of being followed, but rather of something unclean lurking beneath the tower.

The experience at Jin Guang Temple is still vivid in my mind. Under the Buddha statue in the main hall, there was a strange and terrifying black Buddha.

Although the White Pagoda Temple looks dilapidated, it is clearly an ancient temple with a history of thousands of years. Who knows what kind of terrifying and eerie things might be hidden under the white pagoda.

Zheng Sheng cautiously approached the White Pagoda, which was surrounded by a protective fence with two warning signs hanging on it.

[This is a protected cultural relic site; please do not climb, carve, or touch it.]

The ancient pagoda is a solid structure; climbing it is prohibited.

"System, how many survival points are needed to strengthen this white tower?" Zheng Sheng thought to himself.

[Ding! Do you wish to consume 300 survival points to upgrade the White Tower?]

Only 300 survival points are needed? Zheng Sheng frowned. Such a huge ancient tower, and it's just for show?

Although he had some doubts, the system had never made a mistake.

Just as Zheng Sheng was observing the white pagoda, a cultural and tourism worker in his forties, with a fat head and big ears, and a smiling face, quickly walked out of the temple.

"Excuse me, are you Zheng Sheng, Director Zheng?"

"I am Liu Wentao, the person in charge of the Baitashan scenic area. Welcome, welcome."

Zheng Sheng looked at Liu Wentao in front of him; the other man clearly recognized him.

How do you know me? I don't think I've ever seen you before.

Liu Wentao smiled and said, "The leaders of the Cultural Relics Bureau called me in advance to say that an important leader would be visiting Baitashan, so I specially waited for you here."

"Although White Pagoda Mountain is not large, it is not small either. I am here specifically to be your tour guide."

"Hmm." Zheng Sheng nodded, showing no surprise. This must be someone Lin Dahai specially sent.

His current status is special, and although he seems to be able to move freely, he is actually being monitored by Lin Dahai and others at all times.

"Take me on a tour," Zheng Sheng said to Liu Wentao. "I'm very interested in all kinds of ancient temples. This White Pagoda Temple looks very old and should still have a lot of artifacts. I'd like to see them all."

"No problem!" Liu Wentao nodded repeatedly, overjoyed.

An hour ago, he received three phone calls from leaders of the Cultural Relics Bureau, a senior leader of the municipal government, and Commander Lin of the Special Operations Bureau. They all told him to be careful, as a very special person was coming to Baitashan and that he must treat him well and absolutely not offend him.

In addition to the phone call, hundreds of heavily armed special forces members were gathered at the foot of Baitashan Mountain, hiding there and sealing off the mountain.

Such a large entourage has come to protect this person's safety.

This means that this person has a very special identity and must be a big shot from Kyoto!

Liu Wentao became more and more excited as he thought about it. He had offended someone in the past and was exiled to this godforsaken place, Baitashan, where he had been stationed for five years. This was an opportunity. If he could get in touch with this person, he might be able to leave this place!

"Director Zheng, this way please. No one knows Baitashan better than me."

"...In this White Pagoda Temple, there are three treasures that guard the mountain...an elephant skin drum, a bronze bell, and a Bauhinia tree...In addition, there is the 'Goulou Stele' in the temple, which is engraved with ancient tadpole script, a legend about Yu the Great controlling the floods, and is a precious stele..."

Liu Wentao enthusiastically and obsequiously led Zheng Sheng on a tour of the entire White Pagoda Temple, where they saw many precious antiques. Unfortunately, Zheng Sheng used the system to judge them one by one, and they were all just for show.

"When was the White Pagoda Temple built? What was it built for?" Zheng Sheng suddenly asked about the origin of the White Pagoda Temple.

Liu Wentao replied, "This White Pagoda Temple was first built in the Yuan Dynasty. It is said that the Sakya Trizin sent a lama to Mongolia to pay homage to Genghis Khan. However, the lama fell ill and died when he reached Lanzhou. So a pagoda was built on the top of this mountain to commemorate this messenger of peace. This is the earliest White Pagoda."

"Later, during the Ming Dynasty, the pagoda collapsed once and was rebuilt. During the Qing Dynasty, it was damaged again and was rebuilt and expanded once more."

"However, there is another version of the local folk tale, which says that when the trumpet reached Lan City, it fought with a man-eating black dragon in the Yellow River. In order to suppress the evil dragon, it transformed its golden body into a white pagoda, which is why the White Pagoda Temple came into being."

"These are all folk tales, just something to have fun with," Liu Wentao said with a smile.

"Really?" Zheng Sheng became interested. This folk tale did have some similarities to the Golden Light Temple.

Who knows, there might really be a black dragon sealed beneath this white pagoda.

Could it be that the black dragon that called me? Or is the megaphone messenger still alive?

Zheng Sheng shook his head; these guesses were clearly too far-fetched.

"Director Liu, why don't I see any monks in this temple?" Zheng Sheng looked around.

Along the way, there were no monks to be seen in the White Pagoda Temple, but rather staff members in uniforms and wearing red armbands.

Liu Wentao replied with a smile, "Our White Pagoda Mountain does not have a monastic community, does not perform Buddhist ceremonies, and is not open to the public for burning incense and making offerings."

"The management personnel are actually all park cultural and tourism staff, responsible for the daily patrol of the White Pagoda and temples, fire prevention, and the care of the three treasures of the temple, and are under the unified command of the White Pagoda Mountain Park Management Office."

Having spent over a decade navigating the treacherous waters of officialdom, Liu Wentao possessed a keen ability to read people and situations. He had already discerned what Zheng Sheng was looking for, but it wasn't at the White Pagoda Temple.

"Director Zheng," Liu Wentao suddenly said in a low voice, "if you are looking for a high-ranking monk to perform a ritual, I do know a place."

"Actually, there is another temple on the mountain called Fayu Temple, which is a real religious activity site with monks. Many people confuse Baita Temple with Fayu Temple."

"Would you like me to take you to see it?"

"Fayu Temple?" Zheng Sheng looked at Liu Wentao with some surprise, then slowly nodded. "Take me there!"

soon.

The two arrived at the back of the White Pagoda Temple and walked along a quiet path.

A moment later, an ancient temple appeared at the end of the path, with incense smoke swirling around it. Three large characters were written on bluestone at the entrance of the temple: Fayu Temple.

In the center of that temple, there was also an octagonal, seven-tiered white pagoda, but it was much smaller and looked more dilapidated than the white pagoda of the White Pagoda Temple.

"Director Liu." The temple door opened, and an old monk in his seventies or eighties, looking like a withered skeleton, came forward to greet him. He looked as if he was about to be buried at any moment.

"What brings you here? And who is this gentleman?"

As Liu Wentao spoke with the old monk, introducing Zheng Sheng, Zheng Sheng ignored them completely, her eyes fixed on the white pagoda in the temple.

An extremely unsettling aura seeped out from the white tower. Although it was only a trace, it made him feel extremely dangerous!

"System, how many survival points are needed to upgrade this white tower?"

[Ding! Consume 210000 survival points to upgrade the White Tower?]
