Hunting 81: Gathering Goods in the Mountains, I Spoil My Ex-Wife to the Extreme

"Gentlemen, which unit do you work for?"

The jeep had barely stopped when a security guard from the factory came over and knocked on the window.

Dr. Kang rolled down the car window, and the security guard asked.

"Comrade, we are from the provincial capital zoo."

Dr. Kang said.

Upon hearing that the person was from the provincial capital's zoo, the gatekeeper opened the gate and let them in.

Dr. Kang and his companion drove into the field headquarters, and before they had even parked, they heard a bear roar.

"That's the sound a bear makes."

Upon hearing this, Dr. Kang, who had looked exhausted, instantly perked up.

As a veterinarian at the provincial zoo, he was extremely familiar with the calls of wild animals.

He also has a genuine love for wild animals; otherwise, he wouldn't have given up a promising future at the Animal Husbandry Bureau to become a veterinarian at a relatively quiet department like the provincial zoo.

Upon hearing the bear's roar, Dr. Kang quickly parked the car, jumped out, and ran towards the direction from which the sound came.

Soon, he saw a half-grown bear cub weighing about 100 pounds being kept in an iron cage made of welded steel bars.

At this moment, several people were watching the bear cubs inside the iron cage with great interest.

As Dr. Kang and his companion approached, everyone's eyes turned to them.

"And you two are...?"

Director Zhou looked at Dr. Kang and his companion with suspicion.

"Oh, we came from the provincial zoo. An elderly gentleman surnamed Liang called our director, saying that there was a half-grown bear cub here, so the director sent me and this Comrade Ye Yinmei over overnight."

"My surname is Kang, and I am a veterinarian at the provincial zoo. This Comrade Ye Yinmei is the zoo's administrator."

"Oh, so you're comrades from the provincial zoo. I'm the director of Hongxing Forest Farm. This bear cub was captured by one of our forest farm employees while they were logging in the forest area."

"This is Mr. Tang, the owner of the West Pharmacy in Qinghe County. That Dr. Hu is also a doctor, but he treats people; he's an old traditional Chinese medicine doctor."

After getting to know Dr. Kang, Director Zhou introduced everyone present to each other.

"These two are Li Yunshan and Li Yunshi, who captured the bear cubs."

Finally, Director Zhou introduced Li Yunshan and Li Yunshi to Dr. Kang.

"Nice to meet you, nice to meet you."

Dr. Kang and Li Yunshan shook hands, while Ye Yinmei nodded slightly to them.

"Now that everyone is here, let me explain. This bear cub was captured by the brothers Li Yunshan and Li Yunshi. They want to sell it for a good price, and there are currently three potential buyers. Therefore, the cub will belong to the highest bidder. Does anyone have any objections?"

"I have no objection."

"The highest bidder wins; that's fair."

Dr. Hu, the traditional Chinese medicine doctor, and Mr. Tang, the owner of the pharmacy in the west of the city, both nodded in agreement.

"I have no objection, but could I inspect the bear cub before making an offer?"

Dr. Kang nodded, but he also made his own request.

"Okay, no problem, Dr. Kang. You can examine it carefully, and you can ask any questions you may have."

Li Yunshan naturally had no objection to Dr. Kang's request.

After all, this bear cub might involve a large sum of money, so it's normal for Dr. Kang to be cautious.

Moreover, before Dr. Kang arrived, the old traditional Chinese medicine doctor, Dr. Hu, and Mr. Tang, the owner of the pharmacy in the west of the city, had also examined the bear cub.

Therefore, treating everyone equally, Dr. Kang, as one of the buyers, naturally also has the right to examine the bear cubs.

"Alright, please wait a moment."

After Dr. Kang finished speaking, he began to walk around the iron cage, carefully observing the bear cubs inside, and asked some questions.

Basically, the questions I asked were similar to those of Dr. Hu, the traditional Chinese medicine doctor, and Mr. Tang, the owner of the pharmacy in the west of the city.

However, when they learned that Li Yunshan had captured the bear cub with his bare hands, Dr. Kang and Ye Yinmei were still quite shocked.

Although this bear cub is not yet an adult, it already possesses a strong aggressive nature. Just as Dr. Kang was observing it around the iron cage, the bear cub kept letting out low growls, baring its teeth and claws at Dr. Kang.

If it weren't for the iron cage, this bear cub would probably have torn him to pieces.

The woman, Ye Yinmei, was almost frightened when she saw the wild bear cubs in the iron cage.

"How exactly was this bear cub captured? Generally speaking, bear cubs this size are usually cared for by their mothers. When you captured this cub, wasn't the mother bear there?"

Ye Yinmei also carefully looked around at the bear cubs in the iron cage before asking slowly and deliberately.

After hearing Ye Yinmei's words, both Dr. Hu, the traditional Chinese medicine doctor, and Mr. Tang, the owner of the Chengxi Pharmacy, looked at Li Yunshan with curiosity.

Yes, under normal circumstances, bear cubs this young usually live with their mothers.

Especially in this freezing season, this bear cub should be hibernating in the cave with its mother.

But now that the bear cubs have been captured, what about the mother bear?

Moreover, capturing a bear with bare hands is a remarkable feat, so it's no wonder they were all curious.

"This is a long story, but if you don't mind me wasting your time, I'll tell you about it."

Since Ye Yinmei had asked, and Boss Tang and the others were also curious, Li Yunshan didn't intend to hide anything, so he told them the whole story.

He recounted everything from how he and Old Liang went hunting in the mountains the day before, wiping out a pack of wolves, to how he led the forestry workers into the mountains the next day to collect the wolves' carcasses, how they encountered a bear attack, how he killed the adult bear and then followed the clues to find the bear's hibernation cave, how he used smoke to smoke out the bear cub in front of him, and how he captured it.

Dr. Kang, Ye Yinmei, and Dr. Hu were immediately shocked and captivated by what Li Yunshan said.

Good heavens! This young man in front of me actually wiped out a wolf pack of more than twenty adult wolves, killed a bear, and captured a bear cub with his bare hands.

How can this person be so bold?

Only Mr. Tang, the owner of the Chengxi Pharmacy who had dealt with Li Yunshan before, was slightly moved.

Because he knew that before killing this bear, Li Yunshan had also killed a bear and a man-eating tiger, and those incidents had been reported in the newspapers.

Therefore, when Tang Laoban heard Li Yunshan talk about how to kill wild wolves, kill bears, and capture bear cubs, his expression only changed slightly.

"Well then, we've said everything we needed to say. Let's start the bidding. The starting price is two thousand dollars."

Director Zhou glanced around at Dr. Kang, Doctor Hu, Boss Tang, and the others before slowly speaking.

"This bear cub is a half-grown cub. To raise it to the point where we can extract bile from it, it will need to be raised for at least another six months, which will require a lot of investment. Therefore, I am offering two thousand."

After a moment's thought, Dr. Hu spoke first.

His family has a long tradition of traditional Chinese medicine. They have a medicinal pill that requires bear bile as a medicinal guide to maximize its efficacy.

He used to keep a bear at home, but the bear was old and frail and died.

After the bear died of old age, he had been thinking about raising another bear to provide bear bile as a medicinal ingredient for his family's secret medicine. So when he received a call from Old Liang yesterday, he immediately set off for the place.

However, based on his estimation, he would need to raise the bear cub for at least six months to extract high-quality bile from it. Therefore, after some mental calculation, Dr. Hu concluded that the bear cub was only worth two thousand yuan.

Moreover, two thousand yuan is a considerable sum of money these days, enough to cover three years' wages for an ordinary forestry worker.

When Dr. Kang heard that Dr. Hu wanted to buy bear cubs in order to extract bear bile, he couldn't help but frown.

He was committed to protecting animals, but Dr. Hu abused animals, which disgusted him.

"On behalf of the provincial zoo, I offer 2,100 yuan."

After thinking for a moment, Dr. Kang finally spoke up and put Dr. Hu in his place.

"I'll pay two thousand two hundred yuan."

"That's what Boss Tang said calmly."

He glanced at Dr. Hu and Dr. Kang, a determined look on his face.

Dr. Hu was worried about the cost of raising the bear cub for another six months, but he wasn't afraid.

Once we acquire this bear and carefully raise it for a year or two, feeding it well, it will eventually grow into a large animal.

Then we can kill the bear, and just the bear skin alone can fetch a good price.

"I'll pay two thousand three hundred yuan."

Dr. Hu glanced at Dr. Kang and Boss Tang.

"I'll offer two thousand four hundred."

Dr. Kang followed.

"I'll offer two thousand five hundred."

The speaker was Boss Tang.

"Two thousand six."

"Two thousand seven hundred."

"I'll offer two thousand eight, no, three thousand..."

As Dr. Kang, Dr. Hu, and Boss Tang kept raising the price, the price of the bear cub in the iron cage quickly climbed to three thousand yuan.

By this time, Dr. Kang was already feeling quite exhausted.

Because the amount of money he could use was only three thousand yuan.

Dr. Hu also felt somewhat strained, because he saw that Boss Tang still looked completely calm and collected.

Clearly, as long as he and Dr. Kang dare to raise the price, Boss Tang will continue to raise it.

"Dr. Hu, Dr. Kang, are you making any more bids?"

Director Zhou glanced at Dr. Hu and Dr. Kang and asked a question.

Dr. Hu sighed and didn't say anything.

Dr. Kang gritted his teeth: "Three thousand one hundred yuan."

"Dr. Kang, you're crazy, you..."

Ye Yinmei's eyes widened because she knew that the director had told them before they left that the kindergarten could only allocate a maximum of three thousand yuan.

Dr. Ke Kang, however, offered 3,100 yuan.

This clearly exceeds the amount the principal agreed to allocate.

Who will pay the extra hundred yuan?

"I know what I'm doing, I just want to save this bear cub."

Dr. Kang glanced at Ye Yinmei and said.
