At 11 o'clock, the crane lifted the net.

Even though the mackerel tassels used are specifically for catching mackerel, there are still quite a few other fish mixed in.

Ninety percent are mackerel, and the remaining ten percent are miscellaneous fish.

Even so, this net still yielded over 9,000 catties of mackerel.

As the net was pulled up, the people taking over the shift gradually woke up.

Yang Bai saw Ma Yongkang get up with a yawn and asked, "Did you sleep well?"

Ma Yongkang's eyelids were still heavy. "The environment at sea isn't as good as home, but as long as I can sleep, that's fine. Captain Yang, go to sleep. I'll watch over things here."

"Okay, you guys who are out in the early morning should be careful, don't fall asleep halfway through the fishing trip."

Yang Bai was still worried that something might happen, so he gave him a few more instructions.

Ma Yongkang brewed tea and nodded.

"Don't worry, I'll increase the shift changes to once an hour, there'll be absolutely no problem."

Yang Bai turned his gaze to the crew on the deck. There was no use in worrying anymore; he would just treat it as a test.

He went to the lounge and went to sleep.

At one o'clock in the morning, all the other ships left and returned to port. In the dark sea, only the sixty-ton ship was drifting on the water.

The second team re-installed the net.

Liu Dade was in charge of the first round, and everyone except the captain went back to catch up on sleep.

He sat on a small stool, smoking opium and drinking strong tea to perk himself up.

Looking at the buoys floating on the sea, he was a little dazed, but his inherent professionalism kept him focused.

He knew that if he really fell asleep, a sudden gust of wind could cause the rope floating at sea to shift, and it was possible that a rope hundreds of meters long could get caught on the propeller.

Time passed second by second.

It's time for the second shift change.

Ma Yongkang raised his head, his forehead was bright red and covered with the creases of his clothes.

He stood up and stretched, and saw Liu Dade still observing the sea with his eyes open on the deck. He quickly woke up a younger crew member.

Bring him to Liu Dade.

"Old Liu, it's time for a shift change. You're not in good health, let a younger person take your place."

The reason given was that Liu Dade was a bit old, so we let him finish his first shift and then go back to sleep.

The young man smiled and said, "Old Liu, it's my turn."

Liu Dade was still a little worried, pointing to the buoy on the sea surface.

"This thing makes people sleepy, I'll just sit here and keep an eye on the third shift."

The people in the third shift have basically caught up on their sleep, so it's not easy for them to fall asleep.

That way he can sleep peacefully.

Ma Yongkang wanted to continue persuading him.

Liu Dade waved his hand.

"Xiao Ma, you stay in the driver's seat. I'll sit here. Move a chair over and watch with me."

If it were Yang Bai, he would have gone back to sleep long ago.

He had just seen Ma Yongkang fast asleep in the driver's seat, and he was starting to worry about him.

Of course, this is understandable. There are too few people like Yang Bai who are dedicated to their duties. Liu Dade didn't want to say anything more.

Seeing that he couldn't persuade Liu Dade, Ma Yongkang waved his hand helplessly.

"Alright, Lao Liu, take care of yourself and don't let the cold wind make you cough."

"Let me pour you a cup of hot tea. You've worked hard."

Liu Dade took the hot tea that Ma Yongkang had poured for him and drank it.

Less than half an hour later, the young man's eyelids began to droop.

Liu Dade stood up and patted him on the shoulder; his mind was a complete mess.

The young man touched his nose.

"Old Liu, cough cough, thank you for earlier."

Liu Dade pulled his old overcoat tighter around his shoulders, suppressing his weariness as he spoke in a deep voice:

"Thank me, my foot! Just keep your spirits up and keep guard. You young lads don't even have the energy of a forty-something like me."

Another twenty minutes passed, and the young crew member was overcome with drowsiness, his body swaying, unable to resist the urge to sleep any longer.

Liu Dade had been working for nearly three hours straight. His eyelids were heavy and drooping, his head was dizzy and throbbing, and waves of drowsiness were washing over him. He was completely exhausted.

Just as the young crew member was slowly drifting off to sleep again, and Liu Dade was about to give up and close his eyes to relax, the once calm sea suddenly began to ripple with undercurrents.

He had just closed his eyes when a gust of sea breeze suddenly blew in, ruffling his messy hair.

Immediately afterwards, a second, even stronger wave of wind arrived, instantly dispelling his weariness and causing his relaxed nerves to tighten abruptly.

The westerly wind swept across the sea from west to east, howling in my ears and making my coat flutter wildly.

Liu Dade's heart tightened, and he immediately looked up at the sea. He saw that the buoy on the sea was being tossed about by the strong wind, and the amplitude was getting larger and larger. It looked like it was about to crash into the hull of the boat.

The young crew member next to him was fast asleep against the deck, completely unaware.

Liu Dade was both anxious and angry. He immediately cursed under his breath and kicked over the stool the other person was sitting on.

The young crew member lost his balance and landed hard on his backside. The piercing pain instantly dispelled all his drowsiness and jolted him awake.

"Who, who did this?"

He looked up blankly, his eyes filled with confusion.

Liu Dade pointed at himself, his face ashen, his tone urgent and furious: "I did it! You bastard, what time is it and you still dare to be lazy and sleep in!"

He pointed to the churning sea and shouted sternly, "A strong wind is coming, and you're still sleeping!"

The young crew member panicked completely at this point.

"Old Liu, what should we do?"

Liu Dade rolled his eyes, feeling utterly helpless.

Young people are really unreliable; when it really matters, it's still up to someone in their forties like him to come up with a solution.

"Go tell Ma Yongkang to adjust the direction, then lower the small sampan down to adjust it!"

He immediately ran into the cockpit, patted the sleeping Ma Yongkang, and said, "First Mate Ma, hurry up, the strong wind is coming and it's blowing the net askew."

Ma Yongkang looked up, somewhat bewildered.

"What did you say?"

"A gust of wind blew the net askew!"

The young man pointed outside and repeated it.

Ma Yongkang was instantly startled awake and quickly ran to the bow of the boat.

Liu Dade was using a long bamboo pole to untie the ropes tied to the laughing sampan.

"Little Ma, adjust the boat according to the direction of the rope. That kid, go untie the other small sampan, go down and adjust the rope, then reattach it!"

The young people dared not waste a single moment.

The same applies to Ma Yongkang; if the rope had been delayed by ten minutes or so, it would have really gotten tangled in the propeller.

They quickly ran down to adjust the net, and after about twenty minutes, the wind had passed and the net was successfully adjusted.

Ma Yongkang breathed a heavy sigh of relief.

Liu Dade put down the long bamboo pole and looked seriously at Ma Yongkang and the young man.

"Do you guys even dare to sleep? The captain is the last line of defense. This young man is asleep, and you, First Mate Ma, dare to sleep too? You guys, I told Yang Bai the truth this morning, is that too much to ask?"

The young men on duty in the early morning, who had just woken up, were all dumbfounded. Liu Dade was scolding the first mate.

The first mate was completely convinced.

Ma Yongkang pursed his lips.

"I did make a mistake this time, and it's not unreasonable for you to tell Captain Yang."
