Rebirth 77: From Beachcombing to Becoming a Tycoon and Spoiling My Wife

Hou Sanli nodded emphatically.

"Whoever you'd like to collaborate with, we can accommodate you. Put aside what you're currently working on and we'll go directly to the Fisheries Bureau!"

Yang Bai immediately went to Chen Dahai and explained.

"The export orders from Japan have changed unexpectedly, and the squid supply is urgent. You will still lead the fleet today, heading to the same fishing grounds as last time. I need to go to the Fisheries Bureau to request the allocation of a 100-ton state-owned fishing vessel for support."

Chen Dahai's eyebrows twitched, his expression full of surprise.

"What kind of urgent order is this from Japan that requires a 100-ton ship?"

He knew in his heart that Yang Bai only received the quota of three applications per year for mobilizing 100-ton ocean-going fishing vessels.

For ordinary, reliable orders, Yang Bai would never waste his precious quota on large ships.

The only explanation is that this order is so large that a fleet of sixty-ton ships simply cannot complete the delivery task.

Yang Bai sighed softly and told the truth.

"The Japanese merchants demanded that this batch of squid be delivered before the 15th. There's a huge shortfall of 660,000 catties (340 tons) right now, and with only twelve days left in the fishing season, do you think I can refrain from using large ships?"

Chen Dahai's eyes widened suddenly, and he repeated in a trembling voice, "Twelve days, 660,000 catties of squid?"

Fishing for squid is completely different from other catches. Squid are attracted to light, so they are only suitable for nighttime light trapping, and it is almost impossible to catch them during the day.

It is currently the late squid season in October, and the number of squid in the sea is already scarce, with the yield far less than that of the summer and autumn fishing seasons.

Even if we bring in large ships of 100 tons, it will only increase the catch per trip. We still need to find out the core fishing grounds where squid are concentrated in the entire sea area. Both are indispensable. Only then can we have a chance to make up for the huge shortfall. It is almost like creating a miracle.

Chen Dahai frowned, looking troubled: "Captain Yang, this batch of urgent goods is really too difficult to complete."

Yang Bai raised his hand and patted his shoulder heavily, his tone firm.

"No matter how difficult it is, we have to persevere. You will go out to sea to fish as usual today. After you finish work, everyone will adjust their schedules and start work on time tomorrow night to catch up with the fishing season."

"Okay, I'll go back immediately and inform all crew members to adjust their shifts."

"Captain Yang, Chief Engineer Wang Qun has requested leave to rest at home. Someone from the company will temporarily cover his shift."

Knowing the urgency of the situation, Chen Dahai turned and hurried toward the dockside fleet without delay.

"understood."

Yang Bai hopped on his motorcycle and set off first, while Hou Sanli rode on a tractor belonging to the state-owned aquatic products company. The two headed to the Fuhai District Aquatic Products Bureau one after the other, and soon entered the office of Director Chen Ming of the Aquatic Products Bureau together.

Chen Ming glanced at the two of them, then continued looking down at the documents.

"Gentlemen, what can I do for you?"

Hou Sanli's expression was solemn.

"Director Chen, as you've heard, the batch of squid urgently requested by the Japanese won't arrive by the 15th."

"Yang Bai has a solution, but the condition is that Yang Bai must be lent both the 100-ton ships and the fleet."

Only then did Chen Ming put down the document and ask seriously.

"Yang Bai is asking, are you sure you can handle this?"

Yang Bai nodded, responding with only one word.

"able."

Chen Ming's curiosity was piqued immediately, as this urgent call caught the entire region somewhat off guard.

Originally, I planned to go there in person to negotiate with the Japanese, asking them to reduce the amount of squid allocated to Quanzhou, in exchange for all the grouper.

He also thought that Hou Sanli and Yang Bai had come to ask for a reduction in their share, but to his surprise, Yang Bai actually said that it was possible.

Are you 100% sure or 50% or 60% sure?

Yang Bai thought for a moment.

"If we have a 100-ton ship, we're 99% sure; if not, we're only 60% sure."

"What about the rest?"

"It's about being cautious."

Upon hearing the word "cautious," Chen Ming burst into laughter.

"Okay, it's good to be cautious."

He stood up, walked behind Yang Bai, and patted him on the shoulder.

"I thought you came to reduce your share, but I didn't expect you to come with such assurances."

"If you can really succeed, a 100-ton ship will pick you up for free, and so will the people."

"When do you plan to fish for it?"

Yang Bai glanced at the time on his hand.

"Our crew needs to adjust the schedule; we will officially set sail at 5 PM tomorrow."

"We can gather 600,000 jin in just ten days."

The figure of 600,000 jin was announced.

Both of them were stunned.

Hou Sanli whispered a reminder, "Xiao Yang, it's fine for us to brag in private, but why are you starting to brag in front of Director Chen?"

Six hundred thousand catties? If it were May or June, during the peak squid season, he could still believe it, but now it's October.

Since they are about to be relocated, they still have 600,000 jin left.

This means that Yang Bai has to catch 60,000 catties of squid on each trip to sea.

Ten days' catch equals a month's catch for the entire region.

Chen Ming's expression gradually became serious.

"Xiao Yang, are you sure?"

Hou Sanli tugged at Yang Bai's sleeve, "We only want 300,000 jin. The bureau chief is giving you a chance to change your mind, isn't he?"

The remaining 300,000 jin can be consumed by other counties.

If Yang Bai makes this boast, and he really fails to deliver, even a god couldn't save him.

Yang Bai ignored Hou Sanli's advice.

"I'm sure. Six hundred thousand jin, done in ten days."

Chen Ming turned on the internal telephone and dialed the number for the aquatic products department.

"Hey, tell Zhang Wei to come up here for a second."

The scene fell silent instantly, and Hou Sanli was sweating profusely.

He knew Yang Bai was very capable and had repeatedly exceeded his expectations, but this time was truly different.

During the late stages of the squid season, only a limited number of squid remain, and in even the most abundant areas, only about one-tenth is left.

In previous years, even with the combined efforts of the entire county, the yield was barely over 300,000 jin.

Their county booked half of the property, the most in the entire region, mainly because of Yang Bai; no one expected him to book the whole thing.

In his eyes, Yang Bai had truly gone mad.

If we call Section Chief Zhang up now, the situation is probably beyond saving.

Yang Bai noticed his nervousness and whispered, "Manager Hou, really, trust me, it's your good fortune to have me around."

"A blessing indeed."

Hou Sanli rubbed his face and took a sip of the tea on the table.

Not long after, Zhang Wei came up.

Chen Ming put down the document and pointed at Yang Bai.

"Xiao Zhang, Xiao Yang said that by mobilizing a 100-ton ship and additional personnel, he can process 660,000 jin of squid within ten days."

"Then immediately approve the boat and personnel for Xiao Yang, allowing him to lead and control the team, with a ten-day timeframe."

"If it can be done, it won't count as a dispatch attempt. If it can't be done, all three attempts will be deducted, plus he will have to bear the losses within ten days."

He really wanted to teach Yang Bai a lesson this time.

Let him think things through before he speaks next time.

Upon hearing this data, Zhang Wei took a serious look at Yang Bai.

But he couldn't say anything in this situation.

"Okay, I'll make the transfer right away."

Chen Ming waved his hand, "Go down."

He then turned to look at Yang Bai and Hou Sanli.

"Is there anything else?"

Hou Sanli shook his head repeatedly, looking distressed.

Yang Bai was overjoyed, because 660,000 tons was another great opportunity to make a lot of money.
