Chen De opened the red wine and poured it directly into the porcelain bowl; foam floated on the surface of the red liquid.

He took a sip, and his expression immediately turned ferocious as he wiped his mouth.

"My god, this tastes awful! It's so bitter and astringent. Chen Dahai, did your mother buy fake alcohol?"

Chen Biao took a sip and immediately spat it out, then quickly rinsed his mouth with water.

"Ptooey, ptooey, ptooey! This tastes awful! Chen Dahai, are you kidding me?"

He looked at the red wine in the bowl with a strange expression. Foreigners drink this kind of garbage every day, no wonder they look so weird.

Chen Dahai smiled and shook his head.

"What you just spat out was two dollars. If you smash this bottle, you'll have wasted fifty dollars."

Chen Dahai specially bought these two bottles of red wine to be used as the main wine on the main table during his wedding on New Year's Day. He never expected that these two uncouth men would waste them today.

Fifty dollars!

Upon hearing this, Chen De and Chen Biao stared wide-eyed at the red wine on the table.

These days, a regular worker in the city toils all day and earns just over a dollar. Yet, a bottle of this sour and unpalatable liquor can be worth dozens of days' wages for an ordinary person, and is several times more expensive than Moutai on the market.

"This piece of junk... is it inlaid with gold? How can it be so expensive?" Chen De muttered to himself.

Ignoring the unpleasant taste, Chen Biao picked up the porcelain bowl with both hands and gulped it down. Even if it tasted awful, it was still real money; he might only get to drink it once in his life, and he couldn't let it be a loss.

"Brother, drink up! This is a rare and precious item; we may never have the chance to taste it again in our lifetime!"

Chen De thought about it again and agreed. This red wine had a low alcohol content, wouldn't burn his throat or give him a headache, and even if he drank a few bowls, he wouldn't get drunk immediately. He could also keep an eye on Chen Dahai while drinking, without interfering with anything.

Chen De picked up the large bowl and touched the rim of it with Chen Biao's.

"Let's do it!"

The two brothers tilted their heads back and gulped down the red wine in their bowls in a few big mouthfuls. After a while, the mild alcohol took effect, and their cheeks flushed red.

Chen De grabbed a few peanuts and stuffed them into his mouth to mask the taste: "Honestly, it's still fucking awful."

"That's right," Chen Biao chimed in, turning to look at Chen Dahai on the bed. "Chen Dahai, you're such a sucker. You have money but don't know how to enjoy it, always buying this expensive and awful stuff. Looks like you really made a lot of money following Yang Bai."

Chen Biao thought to himself with disdain: What's the point of making so much money? He's still being controlled by his brothers, tied to the bed and unable to move.

Chen Dahai shook his head: "The value of this wine lies in tasting it, not in gulping it down. You drank it too fast, so naturally you couldn't taste the flavor."

Chen Dahai glanced at the alcohol content label on the bottle: 6.5 degrees, and chuckled to himself.

These two illiterate people barely knew any characters and couldn't understand alcohol content at all. They just thought that as long as it didn't burn their throats, they could chug it down. If it were strong liquor, they would be knocked out after two sips, making them more alert. But this kind of low-alcohol red wine easily made people complacent and unknowingly get drunk, which suited Chen Dahai's needs perfectly.

Chen Dahai pointed to a small wooden box in the corner of the room: "There are some fun things inside. Take them apart and have a look. You can drink and play at the same time, and slowly savor the taste until it becomes more palatable. That's how foreigners drink it."

Upon hearing that there was something amusing, Chen Biao nodded repeatedly and pointed at Chen Dahai, saying, "That's a great idea!"

Just as Chen Biao got up to get the wooden box, Chen De reached out and stopped him.

Chen De gripped the large knife in his hand and walked step by step toward the bedside, staring at Chen Dahai.

"Something's not right. You were so stubborn just now, but now you're suddenly being so sensible and agreeable? What? Did you tamper with the drink?"

Chen Dahai shook his head: "My hands and feet are tied tight, I can't move at all, how can I do anything? I've just figured it out. Rather than being beaten and humiliated by you for nothing, I'd rather please you. Once Yang Bai finishes his business and comes back, I'll get away safely, and we'll all go our separate ways. Isn't that the best outcome?"

Chen Biao, who was standing nearby, thought it made sense and pulled Chen De aside.

"Hey bro, you're overthinking it. This bastard's just finally realized what's going on and given up! Sit down, sit down, I'll go get something to play with."

After saying that, Chen Biao moved the small wooden box over and opened the lid. Inside were playing cards, dice, and a brand new mahjong set.

Chen Biao was amused. He took out the dice and put them on the table, then tore off a lot of long strips of white paper and placed them on the table.

"Hey bro, let's play guessing game! The loser gets a sticker stuck on their face!"

"This is interesting!"

Chen De lowered his guard, and the two sat around the table, drinking the remaining red wine and rolling dice to guess whether it was big or small.

At first, the red wine tasted sour and unpleasant, but after a few glasses, my taste buds got used to it and I could taste the grape aroma.

Chen Biao, his face covered in white paper strips, smacked his lips in a daze: "Hey... after drinking it for a while, it actually has some flavor."

Chen De nodded, his drunkenness rising: "No wonder foreigners love to drink this; it's really something."

outside the house.

In the woods right next to Chen Dahai's house.

Yang Bai, accompanied by a militiaman, the two men carrying rifles, crouched low and used the trees for cover as they approached the back of the house.

Yang Bai moved the large stone that had been used to block the hole years ago, revealing a glimpse of the interior through a crack in the wall. He leaned down and peered through the crack, clearly seeing the scene inside the room.

The two Chen brothers relaxed their guard and became engrossed in playing dice, the smell of alcohol filling the entire room.

Chen Dahai leaned against the headboard, watching the two of them act out their farce.

Yang Bai looked inside the room.

These two brothers are incredibly stupid, yet they dared to take hostages at knifepoint. They were clearly doing something suicidal, but they had no sense of danger whatsoever. After taking hostages, they went out drinking and having fun, treating other people's homes as their own safe haven.

At this rate, we won't have to wait until late at night.

The two of them will soon be completely drunk and unconscious.

Chen Dahai, lying on the bed, noticed the gaze coming from outside the crack in the wall.

Yang Bai has arrived.

Chen Dahai smiled.

Next, all we have to do is wait for those two idiots to get drunk and lose their ability to act.

After a while.

Both bottles of red wine were emptied, and the room was filled with a sweet and sour aroma mixed with the smell of alcohol.

Chen Biao's head was spinning. He leaned against the table, his hands groping aimlessly for empty bottles, and his tongue was starting to slur.

Chen Biao shook the empty bottle in his hand, his head swaying, his words slurred: "Bro... we're out of wine... wait for me to open a bottle of baijiu... and we can keep playing..."

Chen De, unsteady on his feet, swayed from side to side as he tried to dissuade him: "Don't drink anymore... you'll get drunk if you drink any more... and you still have to keep an eye on Chen Dahai..."

Chen Biao rubbed his eyelids, struggling to make out the figure on the bed, and muttered, "Right...we still need to keep an eye on...this beast..."

As soon as he finished speaking, his body swayed, and his arm slammed heavily against the edge of the wooden table. The dice on the table scattered all over the floor, and the white stripes stuck to his face fell off in a rustling sound.

He tried to straighten up by supporting himself on the table, but his arms were too weak to move. His head bobbed up and down as sleepiness surged up like a tide.

Chen De couldn't hold on any longer. The effects of the alcohol surged up completely, and his mind became hazy. The large knife he had been holding slipped from his hand and fell to the ground with a clang.

He tried to bend down to pick it up, but his body felt weak. He had only bent down halfway when he staggered and leaned against the table leg, his eyelids so heavy they were about to close.
