Reborn in 1993, Dark Sea

Chapter 454 We've arrived

The team traversed through the dark, gloomy rainforest.

The air felt sticky and sticky, and you would often bump into some unknown tiny floating objects, such as half a leaf, a piece of spider silk, or flying insects, making you feel itchy all over.

Before they knew it, the group had grown to include a number of armed men carrying weapons and wearing military uniforms. The further they went, the more armed men they encountered, and soon their numbers surpassed those of the locals dressed as civilians.

Although An Xiaohai had been deliberately observing to see where these armed men came from, after observing for a long time, he only found one guy who jumped down from a tree.

As the saying goes, different environments shape different people; defeating these people in the jungle is no easy feat.

"Tianyou, how did you talk to Su?" An Xiaohai asked in a low voice, his brows furrowed slightly.

"I haven't officially spoken to him yet. I just said I'd bring a good friend to visit him. What, do you think that's a bit too much of a show?"

"Yes," An Xiaohai nodded gently.

There were too many armed men in the group, at least a hundred of them. An Xiaohai didn't believe that these people had nothing better to do than play around.

"Don't worry, they're not guarding against you, they're welcoming me," Xu Tianyou said lazily. "I told you, I'm not involved in drug trafficking, I have other businesses with Su Pan."

"Understood."

An Xiaohai finally understood why Xu Tianyou was so obsessed with arms. Besides his personal interest, he was likely also exploring new business lines.

At the same time, An Xiaohai finally understood why Xu Tianyou had purchased a large number of Stinger missiles. In this environment, the biggest threat to the drug lords hiding here was armed helicopters, and Stinger missiles were the natural enemy of armed helicopters.

This guy!

"How can I persuade Supan to stand on our side and fully support us?"

"I don't think it's difficult," Xu Tianyou said, stroking his chin. "I once stumbled upon something interesting: Su Pan has an illegitimate son in Manchester, who seems to be involved in finance."

"Understood," An Xiaohai nodded gently, and did not discuss the matter any further.

"Give me the phone," Xu Tianyou said, raising his eyebrows at An Xiaohai. An Xiaohai immediately understood and handed Xu Tianyou the satellite phone that Li Maocai had given him.

This guy is about to start causing trouble.

Xu Tianyou pulled out the satellite phone's antenna and pretended to dial, but after several attempts, it seemed like he couldn't get through.

"Ah Cai, what kind of crappy phone is this? Why can't I get through? Is it out of credit?" Xu Tianyou asked in a strange voice.

"Impossible..." Li Maocai said impatiently as he swatted away the mosquitoes.

"Why not? Look for yourself!"

Xu Tianyou tossed the satellite phone to Li Maocai, who nearly missed it. He fiddled with the phone for a while, and just as Xu Tianyou had said, it could detect satellites, but he just couldn't make a call.

In desperation, Li Maocai took out his satellite phone and tried it again, and the two phones had the exact same problem.

"What's going on?!... " Li Maocai was getting anxious. If they lost contact with the outside world under these circumstances, and something unexpected happened, they might not even be able to find the body.

Li Maocai, looking distressed, began checking the two telephones, repeatedly removing and reinstalling the batteries, but he just couldn't get the phones back to working. He was so anxious that he didn't even realize the group had started crossing the river.

At this moment, the elephants that An Xiaohai and Xu Tianyou were riding had already crossed the river.

Xu Tianyou raised his eyebrows at An Xiaohai again, holding two bamboo strips in his hand, and gently tapped them together at a special frequency.

The elephant Ajuan, who was walking in the river, flapped its ears, suddenly let out a loud cry, and began to gallop wildly toward Xu Tianyou.

"Holy crap! Ah~"

Li Maocai, who was still engrossed in fiddling with the satellite phone, was caught off guard and thrown from his seat, falling headfirst into the rushing river.

"Help! Help!" Xu Tianyou stood up from his seat, waving his arms and shouting loudly. He looked as excited as if it were New Year's Day.

In fact, Xu Tianyou didn't even need to remind him; as soon as Li Maocai fell into the water, people immediately shouted and ran downstream.

Although the river is not deep, the current is too rapid, making it almost impossible to rescue someone in such a swift current. The only option is to wait in a slightly wider section of the river.

Those who were supposed to be rescuing others went to rescue others, and the team continued forward.

An Xiaohai didn't pay much attention to Li Maocai. Xu Tianyou knew his limits and let him play along. All he could think about was the scene of meeting Su Pan soon.

After crossing another small river, the rainforest finally began to thin out, and the view gradually became more open and bright, dissipating much of the oppressive feeling that had permeated the rainforest.

An Xiaohai breathed a sigh of relief and gave up thinking, looking ahead.

Poppy fields are already visible ahead.

Contrary to An Xiaohai's expectations, these poppy fields were not large, continuous fields, but rather scattered in patches here and there.

There were small groups of locals wearing straw hats tending to the plants; these people looked like ordinary flower farmers.

The children in the line cheered and scattered, holding their candies.

After walking for a while, Li Maocai, soaked to the bone, finally caught up with the group. He looked terrible and dared not ride the elephants anymore. He leaned on a wooden stick and stumbled along behind.

An armed man ran up to Xu Tianyou and said a few words to him in broken English. Xu Tianyou laughed and took a watch out of his pocket and tossed it to him.

The guy caught the watch, immediately gave Xu Tianyou a military salute, then grinned, revealing a mouthful of uneven, yellow teeth.

An Xiaohai's expression was also a bit unpleasant. He was certain that the guy was speaking Thai, but the guy's accent was so heavy that he couldn't understand a single word.

It seems that truly mastering a country's language is not an easy task; at least, having an exceptional memory alone is far from sufficient.

The group continued forward, passing through poppy fields, before the woods began to grow denser again.

At a roadblock, An Xiaohai and the others were asked to hand over all their communication devices. Their cell phones and satellite phones were not actually confiscated, but were kept by an armed man. If they needed to use them, they could contact him at any time and use them under his supervision.

Li Maocai's face grew increasingly grim. The two satellite phones had disappeared into the river, and the two cell phones he was carrying were soaked through; he didn't even know if they would still work.

The group continued forward, and the rainforest grew increasingly dense. The tall trees almost blocked out all the sunlight, and the ubiquitous jungle watchtowers added to the oppressive atmosphere.

An Xiaohai knew that the team was getting closer and closer to Supan's stronghold.

After walking for about two more hours, the group entered a stream and began to go upstream.

Everyone seemed to breathe a sigh of relief, and the armed men in the group were no longer as silent as before; they began to talk to each other.

At this point, Li Maocai could no longer hold on. He sat back on the elephant, but he dared not relax as before, gripping the rattan chair on the elephant's back tightly with both hands.

About 20 minutes later, the view became more open, and a valley appeared in front of us. Large wooden villages could be vaguely seen in the valley, and a noisy atmosphere seemed to be coming towards us.

"We've arrived!" Xu Tianyou winked at An Xiaohai, his face full of mischievous grin.
