Reborn in 2006, I met Mr. Zhou from the past.
Chapter 221 Confessing the Secret
Seeing the young girl in front of him so nervous about revealing her secret, Zhou Chenyu felt a sharp pang in his heart, filled with heartache for her.
Although the turmoil in his mind hadn't subsided, his body reacted even faster—all he wanted now was to hold her tight, to confirm she was real, to confirm she was still by his side. He was terrified. What if one day she just vanished into thin air, never to be found again? He had never believed in supernatural things before, but there were too many unknowns in this world, and he dared not gamble with her. Besides… what if someone with ulterior motives had their eye on her?
The moment this thought crossed Zhou Chenyu's mind, her heart sank. Was this what had led to her mother's kidnapping? Could the thing those people were looking for be the pendant that had transformed into this space? Countless scattered clues suddenly connected at that moment, and Zhou Chenyu instantly broke out in a cold sweat.
He instinctively reached out and pulled Su Fengnan into a tight embrace. The hug was so forceful, as if only in this way could he fill the void left by the panic of that moment.
"Nan'er, don't move, let me hold you for a while."
His voice was terribly hoarse, with a slight, almost imperceptible tremor.
Tightly held in his familiar embrace, Su Fengnan's heart finally settled. She didn't know what Zhou Chenyu was thinking at that moment, but at least he wasn't rejecting her. She closed her eyes, buried her face in his chest, and silently drew a line in her heart: as for the matter of her rebirth, she would keep it to herself and never tell anyone for the rest of her life.
The two embraced quietly, listening to each other's intertwined breaths.
After a while, Zhou Chenyu slowly released Su Fengnan. Although the shock in his eyes had faded, the fingers that were tightly gripping her shoulders tightened slightly, and his knuckles turned white with suppressed emotion.
He dared not think too deeply about it; if someone with ulterior motives were to discover this place, his little girl would probably be treated as an alien and taken away for dissection and research.
Zhou Chenyu lowered her eyes, concealing the dark emotions churning within them, and casually glanced around: "Nan'er, does this space... have any special use?"
"Brother Zhou, you..." Su Fengnan was taken aback and was about to explain.
"Stop talking." Zhou Chenyu gently interrupted her unfinished words, his gaze falling on her clear eyes. "I understand. You entrusted me with such a big secret because you trust me."
Su Fengnan felt a warmth in her heart and smiled gently, "Okay, then I'll show you around."
She took his hand and led him toward the Pure Spirit Spring behind the tea room.
The spring water gurgled, its surface shimmering, and the sight before them startled both of them slightly. The once tranquil spring pool had now expanded several times its original size, its surface rippling and reflecting the several elegant rooms that had appeared out of nowhere around it. Zhou Chenyu approached and saw that the rooms were empty except for the bookshelves on the four walls, densely packed with ancient books that exuded a faint scent of ink.
"These libraries must have grown out after the space merged," Su Fengnan said, her fingertips lightly brushing against the spines of the books, somewhat surprised.
"Is this all there is?" Zhou Chenyu asked.
"Not only that." Su Fengnan turned around, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "Let's go outside."
The two walked out along the winding Spirit Spring River. The sound of water grew louder, and as they reached the cave entrance, their view suddenly opened up. A huge Spirit Spring Waterfall cascaded down, and amidst the mist, distant mountains stretched out, grasslands were lush, and birds flew across the clear sky.
At this moment, it felt as if I had stumbled upon a secluded paradise.
"This place is actually a complete world," Zhou Chenyu murmured.
"Want to go down and take a look?" Su Fengnan asked him, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.
"Okay, let's go." Zhou Chenyu nodded and took the lead.
The two walked down the winding path, the grass beneath their feet soft and lush, the air filled with the fresh scent of grass and trees. Soon, they arrived at a clearing. Su Fengnan squatted down, gently parted a clump of grass with her fingertips, grabbed a handful of soil, and brought it close to her nose to smell it.
"Brother Zhou," she looked up, her eyes full of curiosity, "do you think things can be grown here?"
Zhou Chenyu squatted down as well, rubbing the soil in her hand between his fingertips, feeling its delicate texture. "Give it a try, what do you want to plant?"
Su Fengnan patted the dirt off her hands, a sly smile playing on her lips. "How about we plant a few medicinal herbs?"
She didn't say it explicitly, but Zhou Chenyu immediately seemed to realize that she was doing it on purpose.
"Good idea." He nodded. "I'll ask Old Chen later to see if he has any extra seeds."
"Great!" Su Fengnan's eyes lit up. She paused, then seemed to suddenly remember something, "Oh right, I last saw Old Chen last year. Will he come here again this year?"
"Yes, he will come," Zhou Chenyu replied softly. "He'll be back next month. Grandma's condition doesn't seem to have worsened, so he should come for her follow-up appointment."
As they spoke, the two shifted their positions and lay side by side on the soft grass, gazing at the azure sky above.
A gentle breeze blew by, but Su Fengnan was secretly calculating in her mind: if Old Chen found that her grandmother's health had improved after taking her pulse, he would probably question Brother Zhou about what kind of magic medicine he had given her grandmother. Thinking of this, she couldn't help but sigh softly. She had to tell Brother Zhou about this beforehand, otherwise the truth would be revealed.
"Brother Zhou..." Su Fengnan suddenly turned her head, leaned closer, and looked at him mysteriously, "Let me tell you a little secret."
"What?" Zhou Chenyu turned his head to look at her, his deep eyes full of laughter—just how many surprises did his little girl have that he didn't know about?
"Actually, the spring water here seems to have health benefits." Su Fengnan blinked and lowered her voice. "The water I brought when I first went to see my grandmother was from this spiritual spring."
Zhou Chenyu was startled, a look of surprise flashing in her eyes: "Really?"
"Hmm." Su Fengnan nodded seriously and asked in return, "Think carefully, has Grandma's health improved in the past six months?"
Reminded by her words, Zhou Chenyu's mind quickly flashed back to his grandmother's recent appearance. Her forgetfulness had subsided, her complexion was indeed much rosier, and even her spirits seemed much better. He was slightly shocked; so that was the reason.
"Also, I added a little bit of spiritual spring water to your tea. Doesn't it taste different from other teas?"
The last time he went back to City B, he gave his grandfather a tin of tea that a young girl had prepared for him. Later, the old man even called to ask him to send some back, muttering, "Why doesn't the tea taste as refreshing as it used to?"
Zhou Chenyu was puzzled at the time, thinking that he had bought the wrong thing, but it turned out that the crux of the problem was here.
Thinking of this, the smile on his lips gradually faded, replaced by an indescribable sense of crisis. In this world, possessing a treasure is a crime; Nan'er possesses a rare treasure, and if it were to fall prey to those with ill intentions… No, he must become stronger as quickly as possible. Only by truly possessing the ability to withstand crises can he become her most unbreakable support.
He concealed the dark glint in his eyes, his expression becoming more serious than ever before: "Nan'er, who else have you told about this?"
Su Fengnan was affected by his solemn tone and obediently shook her head: "Only you, no one else has said it."
"Alright." Zhou Chenyu solemnly instructed, word by word, "From now on, this matter is a secret known only to heaven, earth, you, and me. Absolutely no third person can know, okay?"
"Yes, yes, I know what's important, Brother Zhou." Su Fengnan nodded solemnly.
The two stayed in the space for a while longer, calming their emotions before leaving.
Zhou Chenyu secretly suppressed his chaotic thoughts for the time being. In order not to let Nan'er notice anything unusual, after they had breakfast together, Zhou Chenyu took her out to meet the driving school instructor.
