Reborn in 2006, I met Mr. Zhou from the past.
Chapter 7 Breakup
In the second year of high school, teachers of all subjects loved to launch surprise attacks, with cramming tests and random checks on memorization being used one after another, making it impossible to guard against. Everyone had long been used to it.
The last period this morning was geography. The results of last night's quiz are out: Su Fengnan got 94 points, and Ning Xiaojun got 89 points. Overall, the results of this surprise test were good, and the geography teacher was in a great mood, so get out of class ended quickly and without going overtime.
As the school bell rang, Su Fengnan waved to Ning Xiaojun at the school gate: "Bye-bye, see you this afternoon."
After saying that, he walked towards the food street across the street.
Just as I crossed the zebra crossing and stepped down the steps, a voice suddenly called out from behind, "Su Fengnan, wait a minute."
Su Fengnan turned around and saw a tall, thin boy standing across the street, whose features bore a striking resemblance to Yan Yun. She froze instantly, a wave of disgust washing over her, and let out a cold laugh—as expected, it was his brother who had come to question her.
Yan Lun recognized her face and, confirming she was the person he was looking for, strode towards her. As he approached, the coldness in Su Fengnan's eyes replaced with just the right amount of suspicion.
"Are you Yan Lun Ge?"
"Yes, how did you know it was me?" Yan Lun smiled amiably.
"Yan Yun has two older brothers. I've met Yan Kui, and you look a lot like him, so it's not hard to guess." Su Fengnan had already composed herself and spoke calmly.
In her past life, Yan Lun was the one who took her to the airport, and she was his sister-in-law for six years. How could she not recognize him?
Yan Lun stared at her for a few seconds, thinking to himself: This girl is quite pretty and doesn't seem stupid, so why did she fall for my younger brother? I was supposed to take Su Fengnan to the airport, but now she's not going. What does that mean?
Su Fengnan felt a little uncomfortable under his gaze and lowered her eyes: "Did Brother Yan Lun want to see me about something?"
"Oh, is that so? My brother couldn't reach you, his phone was always off, and he was worried something had happened to you, so he sent me over to check on you."
That sounds nice, but Su Fengnan scoffed inwardly. He figured Yan Yun was probably worried because she wasn't going to Rongcheng, so he sent him to put pressure on her.
She pointed to the flower bed next to the snack street: "Brother Yan Lun, let's talk over there."
Seeing that she seemed to have something serious to say, Yan Lun nodded.
Su Fengnan originally planned to go to an internet cafe to write, as it was closer to her by this street. Now, she's run into this "plague god" and it's going to waste her time.
The two walked to the flower bed. Just as Su Fengnan was about to speak, Yan Lun asked bluntly, "Do you want to break up with my brother?"
The sudden question made her heart tighten, and her fingers unconsciously clenched, but she remained calm on the surface.
She sighed softly, looked up at Yan Lun, remained silent for a moment, and then said firmly, "Yes."
Yan Lun's face instantly darkened, and he sighed inwardly: Brother, the duck that was about to be eaten is about to fly away.
"Are you hiding something from him?"
Su Fengnan was silent for a moment before slowly speaking, "My father is very ill right now. If I drop out of school now and upset him to the point of death, who can bear the consequences?"
She exaggerated the severity of her father's illness, recounted her mother's hardships, and described her own predicament, mixing truth and falsehood together to tell the whole story. Finally, she added a few words about not wanting to delay Yan Yun's plans. After speaking, she quietly awaited Yan Lun's reaction.
After hearing this, Yan Lun was at a loss for words. He couldn't very well force a young girl to elope with someone.
After thinking for a moment, he said, "I shouldn't interfere in your affairs. You'd better talk to him yourself. However..."
Before he could finish speaking, Su Fengnan cut him off with a single sentence: "Brother Yan Lun, I don't want to be an unfilial daughter, and I don't want to be my father's death warrant."
She just wanted to end the conversation as soon as possible; she had important things to do.
Yan Lun looked at her, said nothing more, and took out his phone to make a call.
……
Half an hour later, Su Fengnan sat in front of the computer in the internet cafe, the phone call from earlier still echoing in her mind.
When Yan Lun handed her the phone, she felt like she was being roasted on a fire. But then she thought, "Hesitation will only lead to more trouble," so she didn't hesitate and spoke directly:
"Yan Yun, let's break up."
"No, I don't agree. Su Su, it's okay if you don't come, I can wait for you."
"Don't wait, I won't go."
"Susu, I've been quite busy lately. Let's talk again when I'm done, okay?"
"No need. I've already told your brother everything, so you don't need to make a special trip. That's fine."
When he first got together with Yan Yun, he gave her a Nokia phone to make it easier to stay in touch. Now all that's left is to return the phone to him.
Yan Yun will definitely come back; let's talk about it when he gets back. Thinking of this, Su Fengnan felt exhausted. The trouble she had caused back then was ultimately hers to clean up.
She was feeling down when her sleeve was suddenly tugged gently.
"Miss, have you eaten yet? I have lunch here, would you like some?"
Su Fengnan turned her head and saw a little girl who looked like an elementary school student. She often wandered around internet cafes, and she remembered her.
"No need, I've already eaten, thank you."
"No problem, you can ask me next time you need anything. My mom owns the restaurant next door, you can order and we can deliver."
After saying that, the little girl turned around and went to greet others elsewhere.
Su Fengnan felt even more frustrated—even such a young child was working hard to make a living and help the family with their business, so why was she feeling so upset?
It has to be said, the restaurant owner's service awareness is truly ahead of its time. There's no such thing as food delivery at this point; in a couple of years, when food delivery becomes popular, this person's business will definitely be booming.
She composed herself, stopped overthinking, and her fingertips landed on the keyboard as she began typing again.
.........
The last period in the afternoon is physical education class.
The whole class gathered on the playground. After the PE teacher took attendance, he led the boys to play basketball in groups—they were going to play against Class 1 next week, so they needed to practice hard. The girls were free to do whatever they wanted.
Su Fengnan didn't rest at noon and taught two classes in a row in the afternoon, her eyelids were already heavy with sleep. After taking attendance, she went straight back to the classroom and took a nap on her desk. When she woke up half an hour later, she felt much better.
During evening self-study, Su Fengnan brought out her weakest subject, math, and discussed it with Ning Xiaojun. However, her math was really bad, and she couldn't remember many basic formulas.
After Ning Xiaojun finished reviewing the problems Su Fengnan had done, she tilted her head and looked at her with a pitiful expression, teasingly saying, "Su Su, you've never really touched math before, how come you suddenly figured it out today? Come on, let's do an interview, tell us your story." As she spoke, she held a pen to Su Fengnan's lips, pretending to be a reporter.
Su Fengnan just looked at her lazily, without saying a word.
Ning Xiaojun was both amused and annoyed by her calm demeanor: "You're so bad at math, yet you can still be so Zen."
"If you really want to catch up, why don't you hire a tutor?" Ning Xiaojun suggested earnestly.
"Yes, I really want to improve my math, otherwise I'll lose too much points in the college entrance exam." Su Fengnan nodded.
Ning Xiaojun also started to think seriously: "I'll go back and talk to my dad, and ask him to help me find a reliable tutor. Or... how about we both take tutoring together?"
"What do you think about finding senior students who have just finished the college entrance exam?" Su Fengnan asked tentatively.
"Oh? That's possible, but do you know anyone there?"
Su Fengnan pursed her lips and thought for a moment: "I have a senior from No. 1 High School who is about to take the college entrance examination. I'm going to my vocal lesson the day after tomorrow night. If I can run into her, I'll ask her."
She knew in her heart that Wednesday was the day her senior took the college entrance exam, so she probably wouldn't be able to run into her. But she could ask Teacher Wang for her phone number.
