Reborn in 2006, I met Mr. Zhou from the past.

Chapter 85 I want to pinch her little face

Song Jiayouqi: "What an insightful girl. Don't worry, leave the rest to me, you don't need to worry about it."

Xinyuan: "Okay, thank you, Editor Song. If there's nothing else, I'm going to get back to writing."

With the publishing arrangements settled, Su Fengnan focused her mind and continued writing her second ancient romance novel about political intrigue. Tonight, she was in a state of exceptional inspiration and didn't close her laptop until 2 a.m.

Lying in bed, Su Fengnan pondered to herself: For several days after copying scriptures, she was always full of energy and radiant, handling everything with ease. The most obvious improvement was her heightened concentration in class; she not only remembered everything the teacher taught but also grasped its meaning instantly. It was entirely expected that she would achieve good grades on the final exams.

At first, she thought this was a beneficial side effect of her rebirth, but this first time copying scriptures after the holiday felt completely different. It was as if she were in another dimension; if she hadn't been interrupted, that wondrous experience might have lasted even longer. In her previous life, copying scriptures was simply a way to find peace of mind; but after her rebirth, the effects were beyond her control. Could there be some hidden magic within this that she hadn't yet discovered?

As her thoughts drifted away, Su Fengnan mumbled sleepily before falling asleep, "Could this... be the legendary cheat code?"

Su Fengnan slept soundly through the night without any dreams.

When Su Fengnan woke up the next morning, despite having stayed up until 2 a.m. the night before, she looked in the mirror and found that her complexion was completely unaffected. After breakfast, she happily went to school.

Two days passed in the blink of an eye. On the third evening, Zhou Chenyu arrived as promised to tutor Su Fengnan. As soon as he entered the study, Su Fengnan noticed his pale complexion and couldn't help but ask with concern, "Teacher Zhou, have you been sick these past two days?"

Zhou Chenyu coughed lightly twice and smiled gently, "It was just a minor cold, I'm almost better now."

Before she could finish speaking, Su Fengnan said, "Wait a moment," and turned to leave the study. A moment later, she returned with a glass of warm water and placed it on the table: "I added some ginger powder to the honey water; it's perfect for relieving a cold. It's a little hot; let it sit for a while before drinking."

This thoughtful concern warmed Zhou Chenyu's heart, and a faint smile involuntarily appeared on her lips: "Okay, thank you."

After they sat down, Su Fengnan took out the math workbooks from the past two days from her bag and handed them to Zhou Chenyu. Zhou Chenyu glanced through them and picked out a few different types of wrong answers to explain. Between explanations, Su Fengnan reminded him to drink the ginger honey water. Zhou Chenyu took sips every now and then, and before he knew it, the cup was empty.

Half an hour later, Zhou Chenyu finished his explanation: "If you encounter this type of question in the future, you will basically not make mistakes if you use this approach."

Su Fengnan lowered her head, taking notes in her notebook as she softly replied, "Okay."

"That's enough for today." Zhou Chenyu glanced at his watch; it wasn't even ten o'clock yet. His gaze swept over the stack of handwritten scriptures on the bookshelf, and his suspicions compelled him to confirm them once more. After a moment's hesitation, he changed the subject: "Su Fengnan, could you read those Buddhist scriptures you copied down for me again?"

"Huh?" Su Fengnan looked up, blinked, and looked puzzled.

The topic shifted so abruptly that she didn't react for a moment. Zhou Chenyu, however, was deeply touched by her adorable, slightly dazed expression, and a thought even flashed through his mind—he really wanted to reach out and pinch her soft little face. Once this thought arose, it lingered in his mind.

After a moment of silence, Su Fengnan asked to confirm, "Brother Zhou, you really want to hear it?"

Suppressing the budding romantic thoughts in his heart, Zhou Chenyu said in a serious tone, "Your voice is very beautiful when you recite the scriptures. Could you recite it again?"

Realizing the other person wasn't joking, Su Fengnan put away the books on the table, got up to retrieve the copied Diamond Sutra, and sat down again. Her clear voice echoed softly in the study.

"The Diamond Sutra, Chapter One: The Cause and Effect of the Dharma Assembly. Thus have I heard: At one time, the Buddha was staying in the Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's Park, in Shravasti, together with a great assembly of twelve hundred and fifty monks..."

For a full half hour, Zhou Chenyu did not utter a sound to interrupt, but simply listened quietly and attentively. It was not until Su Fengnan asked him to recite the dedication verse that the meeting was considered complete.

After reading the last sentence, Su Fengnan picked up her thermos and gulped down a large mouthful of water, which finally relieved the dryness in her mouth.

"Thank you, Su Fengnan. I should go back now. Make sure you lock the door when you're home alone, so that you don't miss me coming in like last time."

Although she was extremely reluctant to leave, it was already past ten o'clock, so Zhou Chenyu could not stay any longer and stood up to prepare to leave.

Su Fengnan tilted her head to look at him, blinked, and smiled: "You mean the time I left the door open for you? Okay, I'll be more careful next time and make sure to close the door properly when no one is around."

Zhou Chenyu's heart skipped a beat. So, that day, she had deliberately left the door open for him?

A fleeting tenderness crossed his eyes; he longed to reach out and gently pat the little girl's head. But he knew it wasn't the right time; he couldn't frighten her.

"Okay, remember to take your medicine. I'm leaving now."

"Teacher Zhou, wait a minute!" Su Fengnan suddenly remembered something and stood up as well.

"What's wrong?" Zhou Chenyu stopped in his tracks and turned to look at her.

"I've caused you trouble several times before. If it's convenient, let me treat you to a meal tomorrow?" Su Fengnan said earnestly.

Zhou Chenyu thought for a moment: "Tomorrow is the weekend, don't you have class?"

"Yes." Su Fengnan nodded vigorously.

Zhou Chenyu's expression remained calm, but her tone revealed an undisguised pleasure: "Alright then, will you make it yourself?"

"Yes, come over for dinner, I'll cook for you myself."

"Okay, I'll come over tomorrow afternoon."

After seeing Zhou Chenyu off, Su Fengnan mentally planned her schedule for tomorrow. As she thought about it, drowsiness washed over her, and she decided not to stay up late writing tonight. After washing up, she fell into a deep sleep the moment her head hit the pillow.

That night, Su Fengnan had an extremely vivid dream.

In her dream, a house was engulfed in flames, and the residents were fleeing in agonizing cries. She couldn't make out which house it was, so she followed the flames. The closer she got, the more fierce the fire became, and flames were already licking at the windows. The residents who had escaped cried out in despair, "It's all over! We didn't even have time to salvage anything!"

The desperate cries for help sounded like the wails of ghosts. The fire spread upwards with the wind, and people chattered amongst themselves: "I don't know what caused this fire, it's so dangerous!" "It's so cold, could the electric heater have short-circuited while they were sleeping?"

Suddenly, a resident pointed ahead and shouted, "Look! All the houses on this street are on fire!"

Su Fengnan looked in the direction he pointed and saw that it was the row of houses where the photo studio was located!
