Chapter 9 An Unexpected Encounter 1
In the dim light, the man saw the girl enduring the pain; her arm was covered in scrapes and bleeding. He quickly said, "I'm sorry, you're bleeding."
He pulled out several hundred-yuan bills from his wallet: "Take this money, I'll have someone take you to the hospital to get it treated."
Su Fengnan thought to herself, isn't that obvious? How could she not know she was bleeding? If these people hadn't been chasing her, how could she have been hit?
She despised these self-righteous people the most, thinking they could get away with anything just by taking the money? Pshaw. These people were clearly not law-abiding citizens, and she wouldn't dare take their money. It was best to stay far away from them and avoid any involvement whatsoever.
Su Fengnan was well aware that Zijiang County was not peaceful at night during this period. Fights and brawls involving gang members were common, and even group fights were a regular occurrence. So she was still a little scared and just wanted to go home as soon as possible.
Seeing that she was holding back her words, the man assumed she was complaining about the low pay.
He then pulled out a few hundred-yuan bills from his wallet, handed them over, and continued, "It's all our fault. You should take them. I'll have someone take you to the hospital to get it treated." His tone was somewhat cold and businesslike.
Su Fengnan frowned, her lips pressed tightly together, and she endured the pain as she got up from the ground again, trying to take a step forward. It hurt a lot, but she could still walk if she could bear it.
Taking a deep breath, she glared at the man beside her with her cold eyes, and said in as calm a tone as possible, "No need, I'm fine. I can take care of this little injury myself."
After saying that, he limped away.
The man stared at Su Fengnan, who was limping and carrying a schoolbag on her back. He frowned habitually and advised in a businesslike tone, "Young lady, you're injured. If you don't treat it, it will get infected."
Su Fengnan didn't stop. As she walked, she raised her hand and waved it behind her, trying her best to remain calm: "I said I'll handle it myself, you don't need to worry about it."
The man thought this young girl was really ungrateful; why was she putting on such a show?
This was the first time he had ever been so considerate of others, and yet he was rejected outright—it was truly strange.
So, as soon as the strange feeling of being rejected rose up, he blurted out "No," and quickly walked in front of Su Fengnan, blocking her way.
The man suddenly blocked her way, and Su Fengnan almost fell again. She hurriedly took two steps back, enduring the pain, and said, "No, I said no, don't you understand?"
After saying that, she walked around the man and continued limping forward, shouting behind her as she went, "Don't follow me. I told you, you don't need to worry about me. I can take care of this little injury myself."
Logically, the man should have stopped pressuring her at this point. After all, she, as the victim, wasn't making a fuss about taking responsibility, which was perfect for them, wasn't it? But this man seemed to have taken the wrong medicine and insisted on arguing with her.
"If you're planning to get infected and get a tetanus shot, then you can leave."
The man's cold words startled Su Fengnan.
Su Fengnan froze on the spot after taking only a few steps, holding her breath, and turned back with an unfriendly tone: "Fine, since you're so responsible, then I'll grant your wish."
The man gazed at the little girl who had been covered in thorns moments before, and suddenly stopped resisting; the strange feeling he had felt earlier vanished. Before he could think any further, the little girl had already walked up to him.
"Which hospital are you planning to take me to?" Su Fengnan asked coldly.
If he hadn't seen that she was a young girl carrying a schoolbag and could tell she was a student, he probably wouldn't have persisted this far.
"The county hospital is not far away. I'll go with you." The man said, and without waiting for the girl's reply, he walked straight towards the hospital.
Su Fengnan glanced at the man; she didn't care who accompanied her, as long as someone paid.
This route normally takes five minutes to walk, but now that Su Fengnan has difficulty walking, it is extremely strenuous.
Along the way, the man made a phone call, keeping a close eye on Su Fengnan's condition. He could hear her gasping for breath from time to time. Several times, the man tried to help her, but Su Fengnan refused.
Fifteen minutes later, the two arrived at the hospital. There weren't many people there that night, so they didn't register. The man took Su Fengnan directly to the inpatient department, where a young male doctor was already waiting at the surgical nurses' station.
The young male doctor greeted the man: "Chen Yu, you said you'd bring someone to see about your injury, where is they?"
The man moved a step to the side, and the young doctor saw Su Fengnan's arms covered in blood.
Su Fengnan glanced at the young doctor's name tag—Jiang Shaoqing.
"Chen Yu, did you hurt someone?" The young doctor's eyes darted back and forth between the two, his gossipy nature completely undisguised.
"I'll explain later. Now, hurry up and get her treated."
"Come with me." With that, Jiang Shaoqing strode towards the examination room.
Upon entering the examination room, Jiang Shaoqing turned around but saw no one. He then went back out and saw the girl supporting her injured left hand with her right hand, limping beside Zhou Chenyu.
Jiang Shaoqing couldn't bear to watch any longer and went over to say something, but in the end he kept quiet and just watched Su Fengnan slowly walk into the examination room.
"Does it hurt?" Su Fengnan sat down in the chair, and Dr. Jiang held her left arm with both hands, one above and one below, and rotated it slightly. The pain made Su Fengnan's mind go blank, and her right hand clenched into a fist.
"It hurts, it hurts."
Dr. Jiang pressed on a few more areas and said, "The bones are fine, it's just a muscle abrasion. The wound isn't deep; cleaning, disinfecting, and applying medicine will do."
Hearing the doctor say that, Su Fengnan breathed a sigh of relief, but still asked with concern, "Dr. Jiang, do I need a tetanus shot?" The man's words had indeed frightened her.
"No need, your wound isn't deep. After applying the medicine, don't move around too much when you get back, it'll be fine in a few days." As he spoke, Jiang Shaoqing began to clean her wound.
After bandaging her hand, Jiang Shaoqing looked at her leg: "Is your leg injured too?"
Su Fengnan looked down at her legs. There were obvious chafing marks around her knees, and her jeans were so tight that she couldn't roll them up to her knees. Taking them off was definitely out of the question. She couldn't help but feel relieved that she was wearing a short-sleeved shirt.
She thought for a moment and said, "Dr. Jiang, may I borrow your scissors?"
Dr. Jiang had already guessed what she wanted to do. He exchanged a glance with Zhou Chenyu, did not refuse, and handed her the medical scissors directly.
Su Fengnan's left hand was injured. Although she could use her right hand, her body had just been hit and had walked a long way. Now that she was relaxed, apart from her legs and hands hurting badly, her whole body was sore and weak. She could hardly hold the scissors with her right hand.
She bent down, preparing to cut from the ankle.
Then Dr. Jiang said, "I'll do it. Letting the injured patient do it themselves makes me look useless as a doctor."
After hesitating for a second, Su Fengnan handed the scissors to Dr. Jiang.
Soon, Dr. Jiang cut off the entire pant leg, including the lower leg section.
Instantly, a bluish-purple bruise appeared on her fair calf, and a red, swollen patch appeared around her kneecap. Dr. Jiang squatted down to examine it, confirmed that no bone was injured, and stood up, saying, "The bone is fine. I'll prescribe some medicine to promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis. Go home and massage the bruise and swelling with the medicine; it will help it heal faster once it disperses."
As they were talking, Jiang Shaoqing had already walked to his desk and sat down, ready to write out the order.
Dr. Jiang glanced at Zhou Chenyu and raised an eyebrow. Zhou Chenyu, who was always indifferent to everyone, was actually paying so much attention to a young girl today. Perhaps she should create some opportunities for him.
Zhou Chenyu, unaware that he was about to be tricked by his friend, was quietly observing Su Fengnan sitting in the chair.
