Chapter 95 Prosperity Chapter 95
After the two finished their meal, they closed the courtyard gate and went to town.
Su Wanwan followed behind the emperor. The emperor's idea was to take a walk around the streets to see where there were strong horses, and then exchange the pearl for a horse.
Looking at his attire, the horse owner simply couldn't believe that the pearl was priceless.
This was the first time Su Wanwan had seen awkwardness on Feng Chenjun's face.
"Brother, do you think this is enough?" Su Wanwan took out a few taels of loose silver from her bosom.
Upon seeing the gleaming silver, the horse owner's expression changed instantly, and he handed the reins to the woman.
"Sure, sure..."
He happily left, clutching the silver.
Xiao Xuanjing glanced at her. "Does Madam have money?"
Su Wanwan nodded and placed the reins in the king's hand. "Yes, these are my last possessions."
"Why didn't you say anything when you were digging for wild ginseng on the mountain, husband?" A hint of displeasure flashed in Xiao Xuanjing's eyes.
"I thought my husband wanted to nourish my wife, but I misunderstood..." Su Wanwan said coquettishly, holding her husband's wrist.
She just wanted to see Feng Chenjun suffer, since he was used to being high and mighty and domineering.
Xiao Xuanjing lifted her onto the horse and straddled it with a frustrated step.
The two bought a lot of food in town and packed it into their bundle.
He bought ink in town to dye his hair and wore a headscarf, which covered most of his white hair.
We just left the town.
The emperor spurred his horse forward like a madman, jolting her so much that she almost threw up her breakfast.
She had just thought that even though the emperor was climbing mountains and going through danger, she had never considered leaving him behind.
I must treat him well from now on; right now, I just want to push him off his horse.
After galloping for half a day, the king finally stopped. It wasn't that the king was physically weak, but that the horse's speed had clearly slowed down.
We found a spot with lush grass and stopped to rest.
Su Wanwan took out her water bottle and tried to calm herself down from the morning's discomfort.
After resting for a while, Xiao Xuanjing prepared to carry her onto the horse, but she shook her head and asked to sit in the back.
"Is the little fox sure?" Xiao Xuanjing asked with a smile.
"Mmm." Su Wanwan nodded vigorously.
If the emperor continues to run wildly, she will definitely pinch his waist and hurt him to death.
The horse started running, wobbling along, and when it charged, she was thrown forward.
It crashed directly into the emperor's back.
Then she tightly wrapped her arms around the king's waist, as if afraid of being thrown off.
It wasn't that she wanted to; if she couldn't hold on, she would fall and turn to dust.
Her plan backfired, and the emperor even took advantage of her.
"Madam, we're in a hurry. You've had a long day!" Xiao Xuanjing said, then spurred his horse on even faster.
By evening, the horse was too exhausted to continue and refused to walk any further.
Xiao Xuanjing then slowed down.
"Madam, please rest here tonight."
Su Wanwan loosened her numb hands, looked around, and saw a river not far away with reeds all along the way. The place was remote and she had hardly seen anyone along the way.
She frowned. Her previous clothes were made of fur coats, which were ugly but warm. Today, she was wearing clothes that her grandmother had given her, which were not warm enough at all.
Xiao Xuanjing lit a fire under a tree by the river.
She sat by the fire.
Feng Chenjun, however, was undressing beside her. She hurriedly covered her face, "Your Majesty, what are you doing?"
"Going down to the river to catch fish, Madam's face is pale; she must be exhausted from a day's work." Xiao Xuanjing took off his clothes, rolled up his trousers, and walked towards the river.
"Your Majesty, I am not delicate. If I catch a cold, where can I find a doctor in this desolate place?" Su Wanwan said, dropping the stick she was using to stir the fire.
Why is Your Majesty suddenly so concerned about her?
"When my husband returns, I'll grill fish for my wife." Feng Chenjun's voice came from afar.
Su Wanwan looked bewildered; he certainly knew how well he addressed her as "husband" and "wife."
My gaze followed his figure slowly to the riverbank.
Feng Chenjun stood in the middle of the water, looking down at the bottom without moving.
The cold wind stung her cheeks, yet Feng Chenjun, dressed in thin clothes, risked this danger just to grill fish for her.
She pondered the matter for a long time, but before she could figure out the reason, Feng Chenjun had already returned, carrying two rather large silver carp, several large crabs, and a turtle.
The king made a simple grill for roasting fish, buried crabs and turtles under the fire, then took off his clothes and hung them on a stick to dry.
Su Wanwan didn't dare to look up even once throughout the entire process.
Where did Feng Chenjun get the confidence to be so open and honest in front of her?
"Madam, turn her over." Xiao Xuanjing said, looking at the woman who was curled up in a ball.
"Oh." Su Wanwan lowered her head, her cheeks flushed redder than fire.
Xiao Xuanjing looked down at her, wondering how he had never noticed how adorable she was before.
The blush that had just faded from her cheeks returned instantly. The woman was so amusing that Xiao Xuanjing chuckled.
"What are you laughing at, Your Majesty?" Su Wanwan asked in a low voice.
"Call me husband." Xiao Xuanjing looked down at her.
Su Wanwan was furious. "There's no one around. How can Your Majesty take advantage of a commoner like this?"
Xiao Xuanjing's eyes were deep and unfathomable. "This is the territory of the Prince of Changxin. If you say the wrong thing, all your previous efforts will be in vain. Madam, you should be careful."
Su Wanwan's eyes darted around, her gaze suspicious. "Really?"
"Hmm." Xiao Xuanjing pondered for a moment and said, "Little fox, it's not too late to regret it now."
Su Wanwan glanced sideways, "Regret what?"
The king's face drew closer and closer to her, "This place is two days away from the crown prince's camp. If you want to go find him, you still have time."
Su Wanwan leaned back slightly, "Your Majesty, please do not test me any further..."
Before he could finish speaking, he was flicked hard on the forehead.
"Call me husband..."
Su Wanwan clutched her aching forehead, "My husband is so rough, he has no sense of tenderness whatsoever..."
Xiao Xuanjing fiddled with the grilled fish, took a piece of meat from the top, removed the fine bones, and brought it to her mouth. "Open your mouth."
Su Wanwan opened her mouth slightly, and the tender fish meat went down her throat into her stomach.
My gaze fell on Feng Chenjun's face, his angular features became even more sharp. He carefully removed the fishbone, and perhaps it was too hot, so he lowered his head and blew on it.
He was usually aloof, gloomy, and ruthless, and didn't trust anyone, but at this moment, he was so warm that it was hard to look away.
As Xiao Xuanjing brought the second bite of meat to her lips, he saw her gaze lingering tenderly on his face. "What's wrong?"
Su Wanwan snapped out of her daze, took a bite of the fish in his hand, and said with a smile, "Delicious..."
Xiao Xuanjing lowered his head and continued to fiddle with the fish.
Su Wanwan leaned closer. "Husband, where are we headed?"
"Qingshan has already broken through the enemy lines with the tiger tally on his way to the Dingxiang border. If the young master finds out, he will definitely lead his troops to chase after us, so we need to draw his attention."
"Dingxiang? How many days until we arrive?" Su Wanwan thought for a moment, but she couldn't remember the place name at all.
"Two more days."
"Oh..." Su Wanwan secretly rejoiced, knowing that she would only have to suffer for two days.
"We'll be leaving Yan County in two days. We'll arrive in about ten more days."
Su Wanwan's brows, which had just relaxed, furrowed again.
Suddenly, Feng Chenjun's face darkened, he put the fish back on the stick, and reached for the dagger.
He glanced into the distance, his eyes sharp, and said, "Come out!"
