Wang Long silently followed behind the villagers, watching the little girl appear day after day at the village entrance, in the fields, and by the well, patiently listening to the wishes of each villager.

Someone lost their sickle, and she helped find it.

Someone's old ox wouldn't eat grass, so she reached out and touched its forehead, and the ox lowered its head and started eating.

When someone's roof leaked, she sat cross-legged and readily agreed, and the straw rope and wooden planks neatly and automatically repaired it.

Those wishes were small and trivial, and each time she fulfilled them, a very faint light would shine from her body.

It was as if something was quietly nourishing her body and her aura.

She gradually grew up.

The villagers' initial gratitude and curiosity gradually turned into acceptance, and then into taking it for granted.

They began to express even greater aspirations.

Some people want a bountiful harvest, some want their family members to recover from illness, and some want their neighbors to give them a larger share of their land.

Even more outrageous are the demands for endless money, longevity of hundreds of years, and more...

The little girl still tried her best to fulfill her wishes, but some of them were beyond her capabilities.

"I'm sorry, I can't do that!"

When she first uttered those words, the villagers standing opposite her remained silent for a long time, their kind smiles slowly fading.

"Weren't you blessed by a deity?"

The man's voice was filled with confusion and dissatisfaction.

"You could do it before, so why can't I do it now? Are you looking down on me?"

The little girl opened her mouth as if to explain something, but in the end she just lowered her head and clutched her skirt tightly.

Similar incidents gradually became more frequent.

Some people began to doubt that she hadn't tried her best, while others said she was hiding something.

Even worse, some people gossiped privately, saying that she might have secretly hidden away those "blessing" powers for her own use.

The little girl gradually fell silent under those gazes.

She no longer skips and jumps around at the village entrance like she used to, nor does she sit under the old locust tree eating wild fruit.

She started walking around people, avoiding those once-familiar faces.

But the villagers are still looking for her.

Wang Long saw her sitting alone on the threshold of the ancestral hall on a rainy night, rainwater dripping from the eaves and splashing at her feet, wetting her tattered skirt.

She kept her head down, holding a small cloth bag in her hands, inside which were a few wild fruits that she had picked in the back mountain that day, but she no longer had the courage to give them to anyone.

"I can feel it, I'm about to become an immortal..."

Her voice was very soft, so soft it was as if she were talking to herself, but it was carried to Wang Long's ears by the wind.

"In just a little while... I'll be able to ascend... and then I won't be here anymore."

"Then we can leave here..."

There was no joy in her tone, only a sense of relief and exhaustion.

As the saying goes, great kindness can turn into great enmity, and the villagers' desires were completely ignited.

They want more!

It rained all night.

The next morning, the sky over Peach Blossom Spring was still overcast.

The thick clouds hung low, as if another rainstorm could fall at any moment.

She heard a commotion of footsteps and chatter outside, as if a large number of people were rushing towards her.

She instinctively shrank into the corner, burying her face in her knees, pretending she didn't exist.

"That's her!"

"Yes, it's her. I remember her clearly. Last time I went to her for help with my old ox's leg ailment, she actually said she couldn't help!"

"I've encountered that too! She used to be able to do everything, but lately she keeps saying she can't."

"I think she did it on purpose, wanting to keep all the divine blessing power for herself."

"Maybe she wants to become an immortal alone and then abandon us all!"

The sounds grew closer and more frequent.

The little girl looked up and, through the half-open door of the ancestral hall, saw a dark mass of people surging toward her.

She recognized all those faces; she had even helped some of them fetch water, find cattle, and mend clothes.

But now the smiles on those faces were gone, replaced by a distorted eagerness and discontent she had never seen before.

She instinctively gripped the cloth bag tightly, trying to stand up, but her legs felt weak.

Just then, the crowd suddenly parted to make way.

A figure dressed in a blue Taoist robe walked out from behind.

The man looked to be about thirty or forty years old, with a thin face, a neatly trimmed goatee, and a whisk in his hand.

His clothes fluttered as he walked, giving him an air of otherworldly elegance.

He just looked a bit mean and lewd, with his eyes darting around as if he were plotting something.

It's obviously fake; it's a bunch of con artists trying to scam and cheat people.

These villagers have gone mad; they could easily lose their minds if incited by just one person.

The little girl met his gaze and felt a chill run down her spine, causing her to shrink back in fright.

When the villagers saw him, they all quieted down, and some even subconsciously took half a step back to give him more space.

"This Taoist priest is an immortal who visited our village a couple of days ago!"

Someone said in a low voice.

"He immediately sensed something was wrong in the village upon arrival, saying that someone had stolen the blessings bestowed by the immortals!"

Upon hearing this, the girl's breath caught in her throat.

These people are coming for her, what are they trying to do?!

The fake Taoist priest walked to the front of the ancestral hall, stopped, and looked down at the girl huddled in the corner.

He smiled as he looked at the girl, slowly turning the whisk in his hand, his gaze sweeping over her as if he were examining a piece of merchandise.

The girl trembled with fear, lowered her head, and dared not meet his gaze.

He then shook his head and sighed, his voice not loud, but clearly heard by everyone present.

"She did indeed receive a divine blessing, but that blessing was meant to benefit the villagers. However, she became greedy and tried to possess that blessing for herself, hoping to ascend to immortality through it."

These words immediately sparked a noisy discussion among the crowd.

Some clenched their fists in anger, some shook their heads in disappointment, and some had shifty eyes as if they were pondering something.

The girl opened her mouth, as if to explain.

She wanted to say that she didn't want to take it for herself, but that what the villagers wanted was simply impossible to obtain.

The fake Taoist priest glanced at her, then slowly spoke, his tone chilling, effectively sentencing the girl to death.

"If she ascends to immortality and departs, the blessings of this Peach Blossom Spring will dissipate, and your lives will return to the hardships and difficulties you once faced, or even worse."

There was a moment of silence in the crowd, followed by an even more excited outburst.

"That won't do!"

"We can't let her go!"

"If she dares to ascend, we will..."

"Please be patient, everyone."

Their eyes were bloodshot and their faces were filled with anger.

The blessings that the girl possesses belong to them; she cannot enjoy them all by herself!
