I became a farmer in the apocalypse.

Chapter 29 Renting a Stall

"Mommy! That lady... no, that Hello Kitty is so pretty! I want to go see her!"

A child, holding his parent's hand, insisted on coming this way, his eyes fixed on Jiang Tang.

The parents had no choice but to bring their child over by the hand.

Looking at the children and their parents, Jiang Li noticed that their clothes were almost identical to those before the apocalypse. The women were even wearing makeup and carrying pretty bags. She couldn't help but sigh, realizing that life in the wealthy area was just as peaceful as it had been before the apocalypse.

"Sister, you're so beautiful!"

The kids said they came to see Kitty Cat, but once they arrived, their eyes never left Jiang Tang.

"Sister, can you take a picture with me?"

Jiang Tang: "Of course."

The child held up his phone, "Mommy! Mommy, quickly take a picture of me and the pretty lady!"

Helpless, the mother took out her phone and took pictures of Jiang Tang and the children.

The child held the phone, staring at the photos with obvious fascination, a lovestruck grin on his face.

Jiang Tang: "Little friend, see if there's a doll you like."

The child pointed to Hello Kitty and exclaimed, "I like this one!"

The mother glanced at it and asked, "How many points does this cost?"

"50 points each."

"50 points?"

The parent looked slightly surprised.

But then I thought about it again. The vendor had just taken a photo with his child, so I felt bad if I didn't buy one. So I used my points to buy the Kitty cat.

More and more children came, some with their own pocket money, and some with their parents.

"Beautiful lady, you're setting up your stall again! I haven't seen you in so long, I've missed you!"

Jiang Tang smiled, "I've come up with some new designs this time, let's see if there's anything you like."

That smile completely captivated the child, making their little face turn red.

A child held up a watch, shouting, "Sister, sister! I've saved up so many points! I'll buy your doll! Look at me!"

"I want one too, sister! I like you, I want to buy your doll!"

Jiang Li finally understood: these kids weren't there for the toys at all; they were there to see their idols.

They all acted like they were treating Jiang Tang like a celebrity.

Sure enough, good looks can get you anywhere.

Jiang Li was completely convinced.

During the short after-school rush hour, Jiang Tang actually sold 12 dolls and earned 600 points with tears in her eyes.

On the way back, Jiang Tang said, "I can make two or three of these dolls a day. I usually make them all at once and then sell them at my stall. Sometimes I only set up my stall once a week."

Jiang Li asked, "Your products sell so well, why don't you think about hiring someone to make them, and then reselling them to make a profit?"

Jiang Tang shook her head. "That won't work. Dolls aren't consumables, unlike rice, flour, and cooking oil. Kids won't buy them multiple times in a short period, so we can't sell in large quantities. That's why I set the price so high. If I set up a stall once a week, the kids will look forward to seeing me more."

Jiang Li felt ashamed.

Goodness, this requires understanding and navigating the hearts of children.

After leaving Zone 1, Jiang Li couldn't help but look back at the Zone 1 perimeter wall behind her.

Everything inside was quiet and orderly, with patrol personnel everywhere. It was clearly a heavily guarded place, not a place where just anyone could enter.

But when Jiang Tang came in just now, there was no obstruction. No one stopped her or asked her to show any proof of residence.

Jiang Li found it increasingly strange.

Weird.

A short walk from Zone 1 leads to a farmers' market.

The vegetable market is located near the wealthy area because poor people might not go to the market even once every ten days or half a month; only rich people can afford to buy vegetables at the market every day.

"I want to go and see," Jiang Li said.

"Xiao Li, do you want to buy groceries?"

"Yeah, just browsing around."

Jiang Tang smiled and said, "Okay, let's go together."

The post-apocalyptic market is truly different from the pre-apocalyptic one. Before the apocalypse, the first thing that came to mind when you thought of a market was filth, disorder, and stench.

The market in front of me looked much cleaner and tidier, and there were heavy guards at the entrance, probably to prevent people from going in and grabbing vegetables.

Once inside, the vegetables at each stall were not piled up like mountains before the apocalypse. Most stalls only sold one or two kinds of vegetables, which were sold in a small but orderly manner. Both vegetables and meat were carefully protected by glass covers.

"Fresh wild vegetables brought in from outside, 75 points per pound!"

"Big, sweet Chinese cabbages, only 120 points per pound!"

"Boss, give me two outer cabbage leaves."

"Alright! 0.44 jin, 52 points."

The person paid the points, picked up two large cabbage leaves, and left.

Jiang Li walked to the various wild vegetable stalls and saw that the varieties of vegetables on the stalls were not much different from those she had dug in the mountains. However, when she sold them to the vegetable vendors, they were averaging 60 points per kilogram, but at the vegetable market, they had generally increased by 15 points.

Jiang Li suddenly felt like she had been taken advantage of.

No wonder the vegetable vendors are so eager to buy vegetables in the fields. For every extra kilogram of vegetables they buy, they earn 15 more points when they resell them at the market. Buying 10 kilograms of vegetables earns them 150 points, and they don't even have to go up the mountain to dig them up.

Jiang Li turned to Jiang Tang and asked, "Will you help me sell vegetables?"

Jiang Tang: "What?"

Jiang Li pointed to the wild vegetables on the stall, "These are the wild vegetables. I sell them to vegetable vendors for only 60 points per pound, but they sell for 75 points per pound here. Every time I go down the mountain, I bring down at least 30 pounds of wild vegetables. So, I lose 450 points every time."

"These points are better off going to you than the vegetable vendors. From now on, I'll have Jiang Yan take the bus to the safe zone when I gather wild vegetables, and then you can sell them at the market. Any extra points are yours. What do you think?"

Upon hearing this, Jiang Tang realized it was indeed a loss for her. "Then why don't you let me sell them for you! Right now, vegetables are the best-selling item, and demand exceeds supply."

Selling vegetables at the market isn't something you can do casually; you need to rent a stall.

Jiang Li went to the market management office and inquired, "What are the requirements for setting up a vegetable stall here?"

She noticed that there were quite a few empty stalls in the market.

The staff member replied, "Just rent a stall and get a market operation permit."

"How many points are needed to rent a stall?"

"Larger stalls earn 1000 points per month, while smaller stalls earn 800 points per month."

Upon hearing this, Jiang Li's eyes lit up. She looked at Jiang Tang and said, "It's not much. Renting a small stall will allow us to recoup our investment in two days!"

Jiang Tang: "If I rent it today, can it be processed today?"

Staff member: "Sure, you can process it today and start operating your stall tomorrow."

Jiang Tang paid 800 points.

The staff member typed some information on the keyboard, then led the three people to a booth. "This will be your booth from now on. If you have any other questions, feel free to come to me."

After confirming the stall location, Jiang Tang thought to herself, "Selling vegetables and doing handicrafts don't conflict; I can earn two kinds of money in the future!"

Jiang Li strolled around the vegetable market.

The market was huge, and you could find almost every kind of vegetable. Jiang Li picked out some and bought some: three potatoes cost 120 points, two tomatoes cost 70 points, two eggs cost 40 points, and a pound of pork cost 305 points.

A trip to the farmers' market, just to buy some ordinary vegetables, cost 535 points.

In the past, Jiang Li wouldn't even buy it once a month.

"Sis, are we having braised pork with potatoes and scrambled eggs with tomatoes today?" Jiang Yan asked.

Of course.

"Take it."

Jiang Li tossed the vegetables to Jiang Yan, then turned and went to the rice and noodle shop to buy ten catties of fine rice for 800 points, plus a bucket of oil, spending 1500 points. She also went to the blacksmith shop and the porcelain shop to buy some pots and pans.

Compared to rice, flour, and cooking oil, these pots and pans are actually cheaper.

The three of them carried large and small bags home, and as soon as they entered the No. 9 residential area, they ran into Qiu Mei again.

Jiang Li suddenly realized that the reason she was able to run into Qiu Mei here was because Qiu Mei also lived in Block 9...

When Qiu Mei saw the three people carrying vegetables, meat, eggs, and a bucket of oil, her eyes widened in amazement!

What kind of conditions are these? How can you eat so well?
