I became a farmer in the apocalypse.

Chapter 7 An Extra Surprise

"etc--"

"It doesn't seem to be a mutated pheasant."

Li Lan hid behind the mutated grass, staring intently at the chickens. "These pheasants don't seem to have any mutated features, and their size looks no different from ordinary pheasants. They seem to be... ordinary pheasants."

"What?!"

Upon hearing this, everyone's eyes lit up instantly.

Especially Jiang Li, the way she looked at the pheasant was no longer like she was looking at the pheasant, but like she was looking at the roast chicken.

His eyes looked like they could shoot out red lasers.

"Hey girl, do you want some chicken?"

Jiang Li: "I want to."

What else is there to say?

Li Lan picked up a machete and was about to rush over.

Jiang Li grabbed it and said, "Don't scare them away. Pheasants can fly very fast when they're startled."

"Spread out and surround them from different directions. I'll try to sneak up on them and injure them from the shadows."

"But we don't have anything for long-range hunting, not even a slingshot."

"It's alright, I'll just snap my fingers."

"What is this?" Li Lan asked, puzzled.

Simply put, it's a technique for using concealed weapons, propelling objects in the hand to achieve an arrow-like effect. However, this isn't something that belongs to this world; rather...

Jiang Li's eyes darkened, but she didn't offer any further explanation.

She took a few steps, picked up a pebble, and launched it through the air, hitting a chicken's claw.

"Clang—!"

The chicken that was hit let out a miserable cry and instantly became lame.

The other chickens looked around in bewilderment upon seeing this.

What the hell?

Turning his head, he saw no one and had no choice but to continue eating.

Jiang Li hid behind the mutated grass, and a few seconds later, she flicked another pebble from her fingertip. The pebble shot out straight, and its sound and trajectory were almost identical to an arrow. This time, it directly stunned a chicken on the spot.

The chickens were somewhat startled.

What the hell is going on?

A flock of chickens looked at each other, but saw nothing.

They only saw their companions who had inexplicably fainted, but still didn't notice Jiang Li hiding behind the grass.

"Cluck cluck!"

"Cluck cluck..."

After exchanging a few words, the chickens seemed to finally conclude that their partner's fainting was just an accident, so they continued to bury themselves in eating pea shoots.

Jiang Li was speechless.

These chickens are pretty carefree.

The third pebble went out, and another chicken fainted.

"Cluck cluck!"

"Giggle giggle!"

Finally, they panicked and all raised their heads, scanning their surroundings warily.

Suddenly, one of the clever chickens spotted Jiang Li hiding behind the mutated grass.

Unexpectedly, just when Jiang Li thought the pheasant would flee upon discovering humans, it suddenly lunged at her menacingly, baring its teeth and claws, as if to say, "You dare to ambush me? I'll teach you a lesson you won't forget."

Are all animals in this world... of such high status?

Isn't this a bit too much of a bullying tactic?

Jiang Li was stunned for a moment, then opened her arms and hugged her tightly.

"You delivered yourself to my door."

Jiang Li held the chicken tightly in her arms, while Li Lan led her men to rush towards the remaining chickens.

Jiang Tong, being a speed-evolving individual, caught two on the spot. The remaining few, however, remained unrepentant and defiant, throwing themselves at Li Lan and the others, determined to fight to the death. In the end, they were all captured.

Li Lan: "I've lived half my life and never seen such a stupid chicken."

She was afraid of letting any of the chickens escape, so all seven chickens were caught.

Ye Tong: "Won't eating all this chicken make me stupid?"

Ye Qing: "That's perfect, you don't need to eat anymore, give it all to me."

Ye Tong immediately shook her head, "I don't want to."

"I haven't had chicken in years, I've almost forgotten what it tastes like!"

The group pulled up some grass and wove it together to tightly bind the feet of all seven chickens, making them unable to move.

Ye Qing used the detector to check, and all seven lights were green.

Clearly, these chickens came out to feed in groups, because non-mutated animals can only eat non-mutated plants, and the toxins in mutated plants can kill humans, just as they can kill animals.

So many of these pea shoots scattered all over the ground are edible.

Li Lan laughed heartily, "That's great! Not only are the chickens ours, but the wild vegetables are ours too! We're really embarrassed to have eaten and taken so much!"

They said they were embarrassed, but the way they kept digging for wild vegetables made them seem quite shameless.

Zhou Tie: "I'm really lucky today. I've never had such a good harvest before."

Li Lan: "It's all thanks to Jiang Li! If we hadn't come with Jiang Li, who would have known there were so many resources in the east?"

Of the seven pheasants, the other four people each took one, and the remaining three were tacitly left to Jiang Li.

"Girl Jiang, we owe you a lot just now. You can take these three chickens; none of us have any objections."

Besides, Li Lan's side had three people and had harvested three chickens, which they already considered a lot.

Zhou Tie, holding his own plump chicken, beamed, "It's all thanks to Jiang Li! Those pebbles are like blades in her hands, she throws them with perfect accuracy, she's amazing!"

Jiang Li tied three chickens to the side of her basket, one of which was still unconscious and hadn't even opened its eyes.

Meanwhile, in Shanxi.

The group of people carrying baskets on their backs looked dejected.

"How could this be? Why are there no resources here at all?"

"What a waste of time?" Wang Guihua said with a dark face and a look of resentment.

Her basket contained only a pitifully small handful of wild vegetables.

"I searched everywhere and this is all I found; it's barely enough to make a plate!"

"Brother Chen, how much did you dig up?" Su Xiao asked, leaning closer.

Chen Feng sighed in disappointment and showed her the contents of his basket. "That's all."

The basket wasn't even a quarter full.

This was the result of him risking his life to pick it from the cliffside.

Even Chen Feng didn't manage to find many resources, let alone the others; some couldn't even gather a single plateful.

The group wiped the sweat from their foreheads; the long hike had left them exhausted and thirsty.

It took an hour to get to the foot of the mountain, and almost another hour to climb it. I thought I could find something good, but in the end I only got a few pitiful wild vegetables.

"My family was hoping I could bring back some food from the mountain this time," Deng Yu said, clenching his fists and looking dejected.

In these end times, for the vast majority of people, all they can ask for is enough to eat and wear.

However, food in the safe zone was too expensive, and they couldn't afford anything. After arriving outside the safe zone, the free resources in the mountains became their greatest hope. If they could obtain them, it would greatly improve the family's diet.

"It's getting late, everyone should get ready to go down the mountain!" Chen Feng urged.

No matter how unwilling I am, I have to leave when my time comes.

We agreed before we went up the mountain that we had to be back at the meeting point at the foot of the mountain before 5 o'clock.

At night, the mountains become extremely dangerous.

Chen Feng counted the number of people on the west side; there were no problems.

"I wonder how Li Lan and the others are doing."

Wang Guihua snorted coldly and said dismissively:

"They've probably already gone back to the foot of the mountain and are waiting! We haven't gained much here, so she certainly hasn't either!"

"I doubt they could find a single edible wild vegetable!"

I was initially worried that I hadn't harvested many wild vegetables today, but when I thought about Li Lan's condition, I felt fortunate instead.

They at least didn't go home empty-handed; they gained something, more or less.

Looking at Li Lan, she went to the place she had searched before, but all the edible plants had already been picked, so naturally she couldn't find a single one!
