Greek Mythology: Starting with Becoming the God of the Breeze
Chapter 12 Motherly Love
Deep within the earth, the wind stagnates and the stars fade.
Astraeus was completely dumbfounded.
He collapsed to the spot, his divine power imprisoned. The powerful divine power that once symbolized the starry sky seemed to have turned into a lump of paste, accumulating deep within his body.
Forget about raising his hand to resist, he couldn't even move a single finger.
This completely dissuaded Him from activating the scythe and seeking help from the god-king Cronus.
He was well aware, of course, that the Titans of his lineage and Gaia, the Earth Mother, had never been on good terms.
The estrangement has indeed been long-standing.
For millions of years, the two sides have maintained a tacit understanding and composure. Never before has Gaia attacked and suppressed Him so ruthlessly and with such a strong sense of purpose.
Despite the constant strife among the Titans, Gaia was ultimately the mother of all gods who ruled the earth and gave birth to all living beings, and one of the oldest primordial gods in the world of Chaos.
In terms of legal status, all Titan offspring and descendants of gods are born from Him, and even if there are many private conflicts, they still maintain a respectful and loving appearance on the surface.
This is an unspoken rule acknowledged in the divine realm.
Just as the gods' reverence for Cronus, the king of the gods, was always outwardly respectful but inwardly distant.
The gods also held Gaia in the same esteem.
It was an unspoken understanding, and no one pointed it out.
After all, we are all gods at the top of the world. Who doesn't have innate pride and dignity?
They engage in a game of checks and balances, harboring hidden grudges, but never easily break off relations.
Even the suspicious, cruel, and power-hungry Cronus has always turned a blind eye to this delicate balance.
Chaos was ultimately a god-ruled world.
Just as mortal emperors need powerful ministers to assist them in governing the country and consolidating their power.
The God-King also needs countless gods to perform their respective duties to maintain the operation of heaven and earth and the stability of the world.
If the Titans are allowed to fall into slumber, be suppressed, or even obliterated at will, causing their fall and leaving their divine positions vacant, the rules of heaven and earth will inevitably become incomplete, the origin of the world will also be damaged, and ultimately what will be shaken is still the very foundation of Cronus's own rule.
The same applies to Gaia, the Earth Mother.
It was precisely because of this rule that Astraeus dared to act so recklessly, coming directly to Gaia with a scythe in hand, without even concealing his dissatisfaction and resentment.
He has absolute confidence.
He is a legitimate high-ranking Titan, the most beloved offspring of the first Titan god Crios, and one of the top Titans in terms of background, strength, and talent among the second generation of Titans.
Aside from the twelve original Titans who have long since disappeared from the world, He is definitely one of the gods who stand at the top of the Chaos world.
He sits upon the stars and rules over the entire cosmos.
The earth is indeed very powerful, but Gaia would have to pay a considerable price to obliterate the starry sky.
It was just a few casual complaints, just a common rivalry between gods, why was it targeted like this?
Looking across the divine court, there are countless Titans like Him, so why did Gaia target Him alone instead of anyone else?
Astraeus was completely bound, filled with confusion and bewilderment, and a hint of frustration.
At this moment, He suddenly felt somewhat fortunate that Kanas had been taken away by the Earth Mother.
Otherwise, if the other party saw me in such a disheveled state, the dignified image I had just established would probably crumble instantly.
Sigrún has taught at the Iceland University of the Arts as a part-time lecturer since and was Dean of the Department of Fine Art from -. In – she held a research position at Reykjavík Art Museum focusing on the role of women in Icelandic art. She studied fine art at the Icelandic College of Arts and Crafts and at Pratt Institute, New York, and holds BA and MA degrees in art history and philosophy from the University of Iceland. Sigrún lives and works in Iceland.
But inside the cave at this moment, a completely different scene unfolds.
There was no darkness, nor any overwhelming pressure, only a scene full of gentleness, warmth, and comfort.
"Here, try this."
Gaia's eyes were filled with boundless love as she warmly pressed Kanas onto the stone bench.
"These are spiritual plants and fruits that grow in the deepest part of the dangerous land of monsters, and they are sweet and soft."
"Every hundred years, I personally harvest them and use divine power to forcibly preserve them at the moment they were just harvested."
As He spoke, He lightly tapped the stone table with his fingertips, and all sorts of brightly colored and uniquely shaped fruits and vegetables were displayed and laid out, a dazzling array.
Most of these items were rare objects that Kanas had never seen before.
Some of them are even imbued with the pure and gentle divine power of the earth.
Clearly, this is a top-tier crop that Gaia planted and cultivated using its own divine earth power.
He had never heard that the Earth Mother Gaia had a hobby of growing crops.
Canas felt a slight stirring in his heart, but still obediently thanked them politely and raised his hand to taste it.
He vaguely remembered that there shouldn't have been anything here just now, right?
Has the Earth Mother Gaia become so powerful that when she uses her divine power, even He cannot sense her presence?
It's terrible!
However, looking at Gaia, who was busy in front of him, Kanas suddenly felt a sense of emotion.
He possesses some memories of his past life, and when he encounters certain things, he is always able to break free from the constraints of this world's framework and discover things that others have never noticed.
It turns out that, regardless of whether they are gods or mortals, or in any world, all mothers in the world are the same.
Even though He is now the original god, having long transcended the mortal realm and needing no food, food is now merely an optional embellishment for Him.
But in Gaia's eyes, He was still that young child who had just been born into the world, ignorant and weak, and even nearly starved to death.
"I admit that I was asleep when you were born and did not pay attention to you, and I will not pay attention to a mortal life, that cannot be changed."
"However, just now, after reviewing the memories of Karst Island, I have to admit that I have indeed failed to fulfill my duties as a mother goddess."
Gaia sighed softly.
"Careless Oros doesn't understand that mortals need to eat. You almost starved to death in the cave after being hungry for several days."
Kanas listened quietly, his emotions churning.
Gaia had countless offspring.
Even if He is one of the powerful primordial gods, He could not possibly cast His precious gaze upon a mortal life.
Even a nymph, or even a superior human from the Golden Age, is far better than the weak Kanas when he was first born.
Therefore, He did not resent Gaia for not caring for Him at the beginning, but for only starting to show concern for Him after He became a god.
The maternal love of gods, especially the love of the mother goddess who gave birth to all gods, is something that only beings of god-level status are entitled to enjoy.
This is also a manifestation of the cold, realistic rules of the Chaos world.
If you don't become a god, you'll remain an ant.
Gods have endless lifespans, while mortals only live for a hundred years.
What takes a god a nap could be a mortal's entire life.
This situation is so real it's frightening.
Perhaps the gods initially valued their relationship with mortals.
But as mortals died time and time again, the gods gradually became numb and indifferent, until they became the indifferent beings they are today.
Everything was ordained by the three Fates.
