Chapter 239 "Aren't you hot wearing so much?"
Gu Yan slowly placed another piece of food on her plate before speaking unhurriedly:
"Baby, don't overthink it. It's just to help you nourish your body."
Shu Zi: "..."
Her face flushed instantly: "Gu Yan! Shut up! Don't think I can't tell!"
Gu Yan raised an eyebrow, leaned back in his chair, and looked at her with a smile: "Yes, my baby is very smart."
Shu Zi: "...You still dare to talk back!"
Gu Yan smiled at her but didn't say anything more.
Shu Zi lowered her head and took a big bite of the rib. After chewing a couple of times, she couldn't bear his gaze any longer and looked up to glare at him.
"If you look at it again, I won't eat it."
Gu Yan obediently lowered his head and picked up a piece of food with his chopsticks.
Shu Zi had just breathed a sigh of relief when she heard him slowly add:
"It's fine if you don't eat, anyway, I have other exercise later."
Shu Zi's chopsticks slipped, and the ribs almost fell back into the bowl:
"...Gu Yan, are you even human?"
Gu Yan looked up at her, his face completely innocent:
"Baby, what are you thinking about? I was talking about going to the supermarket later."
Shu Zi was speechless for a long time after he said "supermarket". She stared at him for several seconds, and finally lowered her head with a frustrated look and continued to eat her rice.
That bastard, he definitely did it on purpose!
She chewed on the rib, cursing him a hundred times in her mind, growing increasingly resentful. After swallowing, she looked up at him:
Why are we going to the supermarket?
Gu Yan picked up a piece of food with his chopsticks: "I'll buy something."
Shu Zi looked at him suspiciously: "What do you want to buy?"
Gu Yan looked up at her, his face completely open: "The fridge is empty, so I bought you some strawberry flavored ones."
Shu Zi paused with her chopsticks: "...What's strawberry flavor?"
Gu Yan didn't answer, but just lowered his head and took a sip of soup, but he couldn't suppress the smile on his lips.
Shu Zi stared at him for two seconds, feeling that something was off about his expression, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it.
She gave up asking questions, focused on finishing the rest of her rice, and put the bowl on the table: "I'm done eating, let's go."
It's just going to the supermarket, what big deal could happen?
She stood up and walked towards the door, but after taking only two steps, Gu Yan called her back.
"Baby."
Shu Zi turned around: "Hmm?"
Gu Yan looked her up and down, his gaze lingering for a moment on the shirt she was wearing, which was clearly his, before speaking:
"You're going out wearing this?"
Shu Zi looked down and saw that the hem of the oversized shirt barely covered her upper thighs, and the loose neckline revealed a large area of her collarbone, with faint red marks on it.
She glanced down again, and there it was—they hadn't escaped either.
She froze for a moment, her ears burning, then turned and ran upstairs: "I'm changing my clothes!"
A low laugh came from behind.
Shu Zi ran back to her room, pulled out a loose, light-colored shirt and put it on, the neckline just covering the outline of her collarbone. She then changed into a pair of high-waisted wide-leg trousers, covering herself up completely.
She looked at herself in the mirror from both sides, making sure that everything that needed to be covered was covered, before she breathed a sigh of relief.
When she lingered for a while before going downstairs, Gu Yan had already cleared away the dishes and was waiting for her by the entryway cabinet.
Seeing her outfit, his gaze lingered for a moment on her shirt, which was buttoned up to the top, and a slight smile curved his lips:
"Aren't you hot wearing so much?"
Shu Zi glanced at him without changing her expression, then bent down to change her shoes: "Thanks to you, I'm using sunscreen."
Gu Yan chuckled softly, "It was nothing."
Shu Zi: "...Shameless!"
The two took the elevator directly to the underground parking garage.
The elevator doors opened, and Gu Yan walked to the car, opened the passenger door, and closed it after she was seated. He then went around to the driver's seat.
He took a pair of sunglasses out of his pocket and handed them to her.
Shu Zi glanced down at it, but didn't take it. Instead, she tilted her head up slightly and raised her chin at him.
Gu Yan smiled, reached out and gently placed the sunglasses on her nose, his fingertips casually brushing against her earlobe, the gesture natural and intimate.
Shu Zi looked at him through her brown-tinted glasses, and the corners of her mouth curled up slightly:
"Let's go, Mr. Gu."
Looking at her smug little expression, a smile appeared in Gu Yan's eyes:
"Let's go, Miss Shu."
He started the car and slowly drove out of the underground garage. The moment he turned onto the ground, the afternoon sun flooded into the car window.
Shu Zi looked out the window through her sunglasses; the whole world was bathed in a soft, warm hue.
She glanced at Gu Yan in the driver's seat, and the corners of her mouth unconsciously curved up.
The car turned onto a quiet tree-lined avenue and a few minutes later stopped in front of a low-key boutique supermarket.
This supermarket is hidden in the heart of a villa area and is only open to the surrounding residents. The people who come and go are all wealthy and powerful, and they all tacitly maintain a sense of distance from each other, without worrying about being recognized or disturbed.
Gu Yan parked the car, and the two walked into the supermarket one after the other.
The supermarket wasn't crowded. Gu Yan pushed a shopping cart from the entrance and turned to ask her, "What do you want to eat?"
Shu Zi walked ahead, her gaze sweeping over the fruit section, then suddenly seemed to remember something and turned back to look at him:
"Didn't you say you wanted to eat strawberries?"
She walked to the fruit section, reached out and picked up a box of strawberries from the shelf, waving it in front of him: "Is one box enough?"
Gu Yan glanced at it: "Not enough."
Shu Zi took another box and put it in the cart: "Then add another box, we can't finish any more."
Gu Yan looked down at the two boxes of strawberries, then at her, and smiled slightly, but said nothing.
Shu Zi didn't notice his meaningful smile. After settling the strawberries in, she continued strolling on her own.
Shu Zi was having a great time shopping ahead of him, while Gu Yan followed behind, pushing the shopping cart at a leisurely pace, his gaze always fixed on her.
She walked to the snack section, stopped and stared at a row of potato chips on the shelf for a while, reached out and picked up a green bag, flipped it over, put it back, changed to a red bag, hesitated for a moment, and then picked up the green bag again.
Gu Yan walked up behind her, his voice coming from above her head: "Have you made your choice?"
Shu Zi was startled by his sudden approach, nearly dropping the two bags of potato chips in her hands. She turned around and glared at him.
Why do you walk so quietly?
Gu Yan glanced down at the two bags of potato chips in her hand: "Want to eat them both?"
Shu Zi nodded: "Mm."
"Then buy them all."
"No," Shu Zi frowned, "Sister Wen said I should eat less of these things recently."
Gu Yan took the green bag from her and put it back on the shelf, then put the red bag into the shopping cart.
"Then let's choose this one, it tastes good."
Shu Zi looked at him suspiciously: "You've eaten there?"
"no."
"Then how do you know it tastes good?"
Gu Yan looked at her, his tone matter-of-fact: "Because you chose it."
Shu Zi paused for a second, then silently took the potato chips out of the shopping cart and put them back on the shelf.
Gu Yan raised an eyebrow: "What's wrong?"
Shu Zi remained unfazed: "It's too sweet, I'm afraid I'll gain weight."
Gu Yan: "..."
He reached out and took the two bags of potato chips back down, putting them both into the shopping cart.
Shu Zi walked forward, and Gu Yan followed, pushing the cart: "What do you want to eat tonight?"
Shu Zi thought for a moment and said, "Hot pot, please."
Gu Yan turned his head to look at her: "Didn't you just say your manager wouldn't let you eat?"
Shu Zi turned to look at him, her expression self-righteous:
"She meant I can't eat junk food... fried food, hot pot doesn't count."
Gu Yan chuckled but didn't refute her.
As Shuzi strolled around, she walked to the household goods section and suddenly stopped in her tracks.
