Border Prisoner: The Mad Boss Seduces Her Every Night
Chapter 137 Seeking Help from Master Jia
The voice on the other end of the phone was torn apart by the wind.
Shi Luyu heard her mother calling someone's name, and then heard the muffled sound of stones rolling down from afar.
She gripped her phone tightly, her knuckles turning white: "Mom, tell me slowly, what happened?"
Lin Jing's voice was stern, but her panic was palpable: "The mine has collapsed. A new batch of workers just arrived yesterday at the mine we recently contracted."
"During the blasting this morning, a section of the main tunnel collapsed."
"Most of the workers are stuck inside, and now... we still don't know how many are alive."
Shi Luyu's blood ran cold at that moment.
She turned to look at Xu Yuanjia, whose car was already turning around at the intersection, without waiting for her to speak.
He turned the steering wheel once, and the car smoothly turned onto another road.
"Give me the address," he said, without asking.
The car drove for almost two hours.
The view outside the window changed from green trees and white walls in the suburbs to bare brown mountains, and piles of gravel and makeshift blue tents began to appear by the roadside.
A layer of dust hung in the air, and the sunlight was filtered into a dim yellow by the dust.
The entrance to the mining area was crowded with people, trucks were parked across the roadside, and several motorcycles were overturned in the ditch.
A woman's cries rang out from the crowd, sharp and persistent, like a dull knife sawing back and forth in the air.
Shi Luyu ran off the car, and dust immediately covered her face.
She raised her hand to shield her eyes and saw her mother, Lin Jing. Lin Jing was standing at the front of the crowd, a few strands of her hair disheveled, her clothes stained with dust, talking loudly to a man in red overalls.
Behind the man stood several workers, equally covered in dust, holding crowbars and shovels, their faces filled with anxiety.
Shi Luyu ran over and grabbed her mother's hand: "Mom, I'm here. Where's Dad?"
Lin Jing grasped her hand in return, her palm dry and hot: "Your dad is over there at the landslide site, with the rescue team."
She turned and glanced at the crowd. "Don't go over there. The family members are very emotional right now."
Shi Luyu glanced in the direction of the landslide and then saw the family members crowded outside the temporary fence.
Men and women huddled together; some squatted on the ground, burying their faces in their hands and crying; some grabbed the arms of the rescuers and shook them; and others knelt in front of the mound of earth and pounded the ground with their fists.
A woman holding a two- or three-year-old child squeezed to the front. The child was frightened and cried, the cries mingling with the woman's curses.
"You said you were rescuing him, you've been rescuing him all morning, where is he? My husband is still inside!"
A young man nearby chimed in, "We don't have enough rescue teams! We don't have enough machinery! When you leased the mine, didn't you think about the possibility of an accident?"
"Bosses like you are all heartless!"
A man who looked to be in his fifties rushed out of the crowd and grabbed the collar of the man in red overalls: "My son was only twenty years old. He just went down into the mine yesterday, and today he's buried alive! You have to pay for my son!"
Shi Luyu's father, Shi Huaiyuan, rushed over from the landslide area, squeezed through the crowd, and stood in front of the man:
"Master Zhang, listen to me, the rescue team has already started digging. The geological surveyors say the main tunnel structure hasn't completely collapsed yet, as long as—"
"What do you want?" The man suddenly flung Shi Huaiyuan's hand away, the force so strong that Shi Huaiyuan staggered.
Shi Huaiyuan's body crashed into the iron frame next to him, the frame swayed, and the safety helmet on the frame fell off and rolled on the muddy ground.
He steadied himself by holding onto the iron frame, his face already pale, his lips pressed into a thin line, but he was still trying to stand up straight.
Lin Jing rushed over to help him up and said to the man, "Master Zhang, don't worry, we're contacting a nearby construction team..."
"Why contact any construction team! We need to save people now!" Another woman lunged forward, her voice shrill like glass scraping against metal.
"My husband is inside too. He's only thirty years old, and our child is waiting for him at home! If you can't rescue him, I'll die here today!"
As she spoke, she tried to crash into the metal frame, but several people nearby hurriedly pulled her back.
The crowd erupted into chaos, and several young miners rushed forward, brandishing crowbars and shouting something in Burmese.
Shi Luyu couldn't understand the words, but she could understand the emotions—fear and anger mixed together, burning hot and making everyone irrational.
Lin Jing helped Shi Huaiyuan sit down on a nearby rock.
Shi Huaiyuan looked terrible, his lips were pale, and he leaned against a rock, panting for several breaths before he could catch his breath.
He whispered to Lin Jing, "The rescue team we have isn't digging fast enough, and they don't have enough equipment. If this continues, even if people are still inside, they won't last much longer."
Lin Jing squatted down in front of him and took his hand: "I know. I just thought of something. If we still can't dig it open, the only way is to call the army."
She paused for a moment, then continued in a low voice, "On the Burmese side, the only people who can mobilize troops are Master Jia's men."
"He has a small army under his command in this area, led by U Thein Sein, a veteran from northern Myanmar. They have equipment and demolition experts. If we can borrow their men, we can dig the main tunnel three times faster."
Standing to the side, Shi Luyu felt as if her ears had been pricked with a needle when she heard the words "Master Jia".
Her hair stood on end; her fear of Master Jia had become an instinctive conditioned reflex.
She remembered everything in Taimai... the man with the black eagle mask, the man who forced her into the bathtub, locked her in a cage, and coerced her into agreeing on the lotus platform at the Blackwater Temple.
She hasn't faced [Master Jia] directly in a long time.
Subconsciously, she believed that she had escaped from Jia Ye and returned to a normal life.
But why? Even in Myanmar, thousands of miles away, does Master Jia have such extensive connections?
Do I really want to get involved with him again?!
"No!"
Shi Luyu's voice was louder than she had expected, "No, Master Jia is a terrible and evil person... Everyone knows that!"
Lin Jing looked up at her, frowned,
"Lulu, Mom knows he's the most terrifying king in both the underworld and the legitimate world, but there are still more than twenty people in the mine. Every extra hour they wait, their lives are in danger."
Mr. Shi hesitated, "Although Master Jia's people are difficult to deal with, at least they can help in an emergency. As long as we give them enough money, they will help us."
Shi Luyu bit her lip and clenched her fingers tightly on the hem of her clothes.
She didn't know how to explain. She couldn't tell her mother what "Master Jia" had done to her.
She stood there, with the cries of family members and the shouts of the rescue team behind her, and her mother's tired face and her father's weathered face leaning against a rock in front of her.
Shi Luyu did not object further.
Since that's the case, since that's the case...
She turned and walked towards the car parked on the side of the road. After a few steps, she stopped, took out her phone, and dialed a number.
The phone rang twice before being answered. "Good boy?" Xu Yuanjia's voice came through the receiver, carrying a lazy smile.
Shi Luyu gripped her phone tightly, her voice a little hoarse. "Brother, where are you? I need to go somewhere, could you help me find the address... and then, then come with me?"
There was a moment of silence on the other end of the phone.
His voice was casual and elegant, yet reassuringly confident: "I haven't left your mining area. Come out."
While her parents weren't looking, Shi Luyu ran back to Xu Yuanjia's car and quickly went inside: "Brother, I want to go to a man named Wu Dengsheng. He's one of Master Jia's men."
Xu Yuanjia tilted his head to look at her, a slight smile curving his lips: "My little darling is so smart, she knows to look for her brother."
"You know what? Bringing your brother along was the wisest choice."
Xu Yuanjia helped Shi Luyu into the car, and with a flick of his wrist, the car drove away from the dirt road outside the mining area.
"Do you know where Wu Dengsheng lives?" the girl asked, turning to her.
"I know a little."
Shi Luyu didn't quite understand: "One point is...?"
Xu Yuanjia glanced at her lazily and added, "I know who he's under, how many people he has, and which sums of money he's embezzled recently."
Shi Luyu was stunned, her lips barely moving: "Brother, how do you know all this?"
"The Xu family's businesses are everywhere." He said casually, "My brother has just taken power, so he has to take a look at the accounts."
Shi Luyu pursed her lips and didn't ask any further questions.
After the car left the main road, it headed north, and the surrounding towns gradually became fewer and fewer.
At first, there were scattered villages on both sides of the road, but later only vast expanses of dark green rainforest and brown mountain ridges remained. Sunlight filtered through the dense canopy, shimmering on the windshield.
About forty minutes later, a private mountain road appeared ahead.
At the mountain pass stood two black stone elephants with white tusks inlaid with gold. Further in, there were three iron gates in a row, each guarded by an armed guard.
Shi Luyu saw the heavily guarded iron gate through the car window, and unconsciously sat up straight, her fingers quietly tightening around the seatbelt.
Xu Yuanjia noticed, and while holding the steering wheel with one hand, he reached out and squeezed her hand with the other. "Scared?"
She shook her head and asked softly, "Where exactly is this place?"
"Wonton Courtyard".
Xu Yuanjia glanced at the two overly flamboyant white elephants at the entrance, and smirked, "Quite poor taste."
At the first gate, the guard raised his hand to stop the car: "Please show your pass."
Xu Yuanjia rolled down the car window, his expression nonchalant: "Looking for Wu Dengsheng."
The guard looked him up and down.
The young man in front of me was wearing a simple light-colored shirt, the collar slightly open, and a watch of indistinguishable brand on his wrist. Next to him sat a very young Chinese girl, her face filled with anxiety.
He doesn't look like any important person at all.
"Do you have an appointment?" the guard asked.
Xu Yuanjia: "No."
The guard's tone turned cold: "No entry without an appointment."
Shi Luyu quickly spoke up: "We have an emergency. There's been a landslide in the mine, and we'd like to ask Mr. Wu for help. Could you please inform them for us?"
The guard glanced at her. Perhaps noticing her delicate and pretty appearance, his attitude softened slightly: "Wait."
After the call went through, it took several minutes for the iron gate to slowly open.
The car drove into the Wonton Villa. The villa was built halfway up the mountain, looking imposing from the outside, but incredibly luxurious inside.
The main building is modeled after the old royal palace in Myanmar, with a golden roof and double eaves, dark red wooden walls, and strings of copper bells hanging under the corridor. Tropical flowers and trees surround a large courtyard, and golden koi carp are kept in a pond, with two military off-road vehicles parked beside it.
In the distance stands a private pagoda, its body covered in gold leaf, but surrounded by armed men.
The sacred and the ferocious were mixed together, which made Shi Luyu feel a little uneasy.
Xu Yuanjia remained silent the entire way. After entering the house, his gaze slowly swept over the vehicles, sentry posts, and communication antennas on the rooftop, a thoughtful look flashing in his eyes.
The two were led into the main hall, where the air conditioning was on full blast.
One wall was covered with a map of the Burmese mountains and forests, next to which were sandalwood carvings and ivory ornaments. In the center was a large teak sofa, on which sat cigars, wine, and stacks of cash.
Wu Dengsheng sat in the main seat.
The man was in his forties, slightly overweight, with dark skin, wearing an intricately patterned silk shirt, and had four rings on his ten fingers.
Seeing Shi Luyu and Xu Yuanjia enter, he didn't even bother to get up, only raising his eyelids slightly: "Who wants to see me?"
Shi Luyu stepped forward, and despite her anxiety, she tried her best to remain calm and said politely, "Hello, Mr. Wu, I'm sorry to bother you."
Wu Dengsheng glanced at her, then looked at Xu Yuanjia: "Which of your families has had an accident?"
"It's my parents' mining area," Shi Luyu explained the details of the landslide.
"There are still more than 20 workers trapped inside, and we don't have enough rescue equipment. I heard that you have people and large demolition equipment, so I would like to ask for your help."
Wu Dengsheng listened slowly, cigar in hand, his expression unchanged.
"Who told you that?" he suddenly asked.
Shi Luyu hesitated for a moment: "...My, my mother."
Wu Dengsheng chuckled: "Does your mother know me?"
"I don't know him."
"Then what makes you think I'd help you?"
Shi Luyu's face paled slightly, but she still met his gaze: "Mr. Wu, there are more than twenty lives trapped in the mine. Saving lives is the most important thing right now."
Wu Dengsheng leaned back on the sofa, flicked the ash from his cigar, and said, "Little girl, people here need to be rescued every day."
"Mine collapses, shootouts, seized goods, disappearances." His expression was arrogant and contemptuous. "I can't just send people whenever someone comes crying."
Xu Yuanjia leaned lazily to one side, his long legs loosely crossed, his arms crossed over his chest. Upon hearing this, he only glanced sideways at Wu Dengsheng. A half-smile was pressed against the corner of his lips, indifferent and aloof, as if he were looking at a reckless and unruly character.
Shi Luyu clenched her fingers, as if gathering her courage, and said, "Mr. Wu, we can pay."
Wu Dengsheng then raised his eyes, his gaze lingering on her face for a few seconds. "Pay?"
"Yes." The girl nodded vigorously.
How much can you offer?
Shi Luyu tried to calm herself down, "As long as you are willing to save people, you can name your price."
Upon hearing this, Wu Dengsheng finally smiled.
He held a cigar between his fingers, leaned forward slightly, and said, "Okay."
"Equipment, demolition experts, rescue teams, plus two helicopters on standby."
He held up three fingers. "Three million, US dollars."
Shi Luyu was stunned. "Three million?"
Wu Dengsheng's smile deepened. "You think it's too expensive?"
"But this..."
"Lifesaving business, of course it's expensive." He glanced casually at the clock on the wall. "And the later it gets, the higher the price."
Shi Luyu froze, the urgency in her eyes suppressed by the string of numbers.
Three million US dollars.
When that number hit her, her mind went almost blank for a moment. Her family had already invested a large sum of money in the early stages of leasing the mining area, and the money on the books was tied up in equipment, labor, and transportation. It was simply impossible for them to withdraw so much cash all at once in a short period of time.
Moreover, when someone like Wu Dengsheng sets his mind on something, the price will only keep going up layer by layer.
Her voice tightened: "Can we save them first? We'll definitely pay later—"
"No," Wu Dengsheng interrupted decisively. "Young lady, I don't offer credit here."
He tapped the table with his cigar, "No money, no move."
Shi Luyu's eyes reddened with anxiety, "But there are still more than twenty lives inside."
Wu Dengsheng looked impatient. "Those are your workers. What does it have to do with me?"
Shi Luyu opened her mouth, but for a moment she didn't know what else to say.
Xu Yuanjia stood by the side the whole time.
He barely spoke from the moment he entered, simply leaning lazily against the sandalwood cabinet behind him, his long legs slightly crossed, his fingertips casually tapping his wrist, looking down at people with a relaxed and nonchalant expression.
Wu Dengsheng saw him several times, but he only regarded him as an ordinary boyfriend who accompanied the young girl.
Seeing that Shi Luyu was speechless, Xu Yuanjia finally raised his eyes and said, "Mr. Wu."
Wu Dengsheng looked over. Clearly, he didn't take him seriously. "You have a problem with that?"
Xu Yuanjia's lips curved slightly. "No."
He glanced around, his tone casual: "Just a little curious."
Wu Dengsheng squinted: "Curious about what?"
Xu Yuanjia raised his chin, his gaze falling on the mountain map on the wall. "There are only three posts on the north side of the mountain road. The third post uses an old-fashioned German-made communication machine."
"There are two military vehicles parked in the yard that were decommissioned seven years ago, but their license plates are from the Taimai South District." He glanced out the window again.
"The rooftop antenna faces southwest, and its communication range covers the three hidden lines along the Thai-Myanmar border."
Wu Dengsheng's smile gradually froze.
Xu Yuanjia remained lazy. "Those guys in the courtyard, their right shoulders slumped slightly when they walked, clearly indicating they carried pistols for a long time. And their shoes had red clay on the soles, so they must have just returned from the southwest route of Thailand and the United States."
He ultimately concluded: "Mr. Wu's real intention was probably to help people inspect goods, not to provide rescue services."
Wu Dengsheng's eyes finally turned cold. "Who exactly are you?"
"Who I am is not important, what is important is..." Xu Yuanjia deliberately paused here, chuckled softly, "Mr. Wu looks down on us, that's fine, but we still hope that you will help us out of respect for Chai Ye."
Wu Dengsheng's fingers tightened around his cigar: "You know Brother Chai?"
Xu Yuanjia finally stood up straighter and said, "I know him."
As he spoke, he took out his phone from his pocket, looking quite composed: "We're pretty familiar with each other."
Wu Dengsheng looked at him suspiciously.
Xu Yuanjia looked down, found the number, and dialed it.
The call was quickly answered, and a rough but respectful voice came from the receiver: "Sir, what are your orders?"
Xu Yuanjia raised an eyebrow slightly, a lazy smile playing at the corners of his eyes. He spoke slowly and deliberately in front of Wu Dengsheng:
"Hey, Brother Chai."
Chai also fell silent for a moment on the other end.
"What have you been busy with lately?" Xu Yuanjia paused, then smiled ostentatiously.
"I miss you, little brother."
