Border Prisoner: The Mad Boss Seduces Her Every Night

Chapter 62 Removing the Candy from Her Mouth

Shi Luyu knocked on the door.

Is anyone there?

No one answered. She slammed her hand on the iron door harder, making a dull thud; only the hum of the fluorescent lights responded in the corridor.

She took out her phone, but there was only one bar of signal left. She couldn't send messages or make calls. She squatted down against the door, telling herself not to panic. Maybe a building manager would come to patrol, or maybe someone would pass by.

Ten minutes have passed.

twenty minutes.

half an hour.

The air in the darkroom grew increasingly stuffy, the smell of the medicine mixed with the damp heat clinging to the skin, making it hard to breathe.

The red light flickered on the wall like congealed blood. Shi Luyu's breathing quickened, and her chest felt as if a huge stone was pressing down on it.

She remembered the cage that had imprisoned her and forced her to face wild beasts, the iron door that had thrown her into the secret room after she resisted Jia Ye's advances, and the suffocating feeling of being choked and pushed into the water.

Her hands began to tremble, a chilling fear creeping in from the very marrow of her bones.

"Is anyone there?!" Her voice bounced a few times in the darkroom before being swallowed by the thick walls.

Shi Luyu buried her face in her knees, and her shoulders began to tremble slightly.

Suddenly, footsteps came from the other end of the corridor.

Xu Jia, carrying a blue folder, turned the corner at the stairwell. He had come to the art building to organize materials for his documentary project. The preliminary research materials for "Night Flight on the Border" were piled up in his office on the third floor, and he had only just left after being busy until now.

As he passed the door of the darkroom, he glanced down through the crack. Red light seeped out from underneath, reflecting on the concrete floor of the corridor like a dark river.

His gaze shifted to the sign-in sheet hanging by the door. Everyone's name had their sign-out time written next to it, except for one blank column.

Stone exposed jade. Not signed for return.

Xu Jia was stunned for a long time before decisively putting down the folder, squatting down, and getting close to the crack in the door.

"Lulu?" His voice was tentative, questioning, but very calm and clear. "It's me, Xu Jia."

There was a moment of silence in the darkroom, then a muffled, nasal reply came: "...Xu Jia?"

He didn't explain further: "Yes. Don't be afraid, I'm outside the door."

They cannot reunite with Lulu yet because their family is still in danger, and Xu Yuanjia is definitely controlling everything from the shadows.

Xu Jia stood up, walked quickly to the administrator's duty room at the end of the corridor, pushed open the door, found the key ring on the wall, and tried them one by one.

Inside the darkroom, Shi Luyu heard the sound of a key being inserted into the lock and stood up, pressed against the door. Her legs were numb from sitting, and she staggered, grabbing the wall for support.

"Lulu, breathe near the door and don't touch the medicine." Xu Jia's voice came through the door, completely calm.

A few metallic clanging sounds rang out, and the latch clicked open.

The door was pushed open.

The white light from the corridor flooded in, making Shi Luyu squint. She leaned against the wall by the door, her eyes red-rimmed, with lingering tears on her eyelashes. Her dress was stained with brown developer, and her fingertips were white from being soaked in fixer.

Xu Jia stood at the doorway, not coming in. He switched the folder in his hand to his left, and took two orange candies from his pocket with his right hand, placing them on the doorframe.

"Put this on first, and get some fresh air." He took off his coat, draped it over the door frame, and gentlemanly stepped back.

Shi Luyu picked up the coat, draped it over her shoulders, and walked out of the darkroom.

The air in the corridor was much cooler than inside. She took a deep breath, and the tightness in her chest eased a little. She picked up the two candies on the door frame, peeled one open, and popped it into her mouth. The sweet orange flavor melted in her mouth.

So sweet.

Something flashed through my memory.

When she was very young... someone always used orange candy to coax her...

She suddenly looked up at Xu Jia. His profile was illuminated by the corridor's fluorescent lights, making him appear fair and clear, with a gentle and familiar curve in his eyebrows and eyes.

"Xu Jia, you—"

She didn't finish her sentence.

Heavy, muffled footsteps echoed from the stairwell, tap, tap, with a rhythmic cadence.

The leather shoes trod on the terrazzo floor at a leisurely pace, carrying a kind of refined elegance that seemed out of place in this dilapidated art building.

The tall, imposing figure of a man gradually came into view; it was Xu Yuanjia, slowly emerging from the darkness at the end of the corridor.

He wore a light, dark gray jacket over a black shirt, the top two buttons undone, revealing a glimpse of his collarbone. His hair was slightly disheveled by the night wind, his complexion was not good, and there was a layer of displeasure in his eyes.

Xu Yuanjia swept his cold gaze across the corridor.

Shi Luyu, wearing Xu Jia's coat and with a candy in her mouth, stood at the door of the darkroom. Xu Jia stood three steps away, his folder held to his chest, his posture quiet and restrained.

Xu Yuanjia narrowed his eyes.

Scarface Chai followed behind him, holding a phone and speaking in a low voice. Upon seeing the scene in the corridor, he abruptly stopped talking on the phone and halted in his tracks.

The atmosphere instantly turned cold and tense, as if an invisible knife was held to everyone's neck.

Shi Luyu didn't think too much about it. The moment she saw Xu Yuanjia, all her grievances and lingering fear surged up at once. Her eyes reddened, and tears welled up in them.

She took a step toward him, then stopped.

Because his expression was off, extremely gloomy, his gaze fell on the coat on her shoulder, then moved to Xu Jia's face, and finally returned to her mouth which was full of candy.

"come over."

Two words. The sound wasn't loud, but the fluorescent lights in the corridor flickered.

Shi Luyu glanced at Xu Jia. Xu Jia didn't look at her, lowered his head, and stepped aside to the other side of the corridor, making way for her.

Shi Luyu bit her lip, wrapped herself in the coat that didn't belong to her, and walked step by step toward Xu Yuanjia.

When she walked up to him, she opened her mouth to speak, but he raised his hand and pried the orange candy that was still in her mouth out of her lips.

The candy was wet and sticky with her saliva, which he casually tossed into the trash can in the corner of the corridor.

"Throw your own clothes away."

His voice was icy as he turned and walked away, saying, "Go home."
