Border Prisoner: The Mad Boss Seduces Her Every Night
Chapter 83 Our Parents
When Lin Jing and Shi Huaiyuan got out of the taxi, the whole street was brightly lit.
The night market along the Chao Phraya River had just opened, the smoke from grilled seafood mingling with the aroma of coconuts. Tourists were taking photos with their phones, and children were running around with balloons in hand. At the entrance of the Moonlit Tea House, the hostesses, dressed in traditional Thai dresses, smiled gently; everything seemed perfectly normal.
Shi Huaiyuan paused, looking around. He had been a jewelry merchant for half his life and had seen all sorts of things, but from the moment he stepped into this commercial district today, he felt that something was amiss.
I can't quite put my finger on it... everything just went too smoothly. There was no traffic, parking was readily available, and every time I crossed the street, the lights were green.
Lin Jing took his arm: "Stop looking, Xiao Xu is still waiting."
On the third floor of the teahouse, the door to a private room was pushed open.
Xu Yuanjia stood up from the table, wearing a light gray linen shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his forearms, his hair neatly styled. A perfectly measured smile graced his face, gentle yet dignified, full of the respect a junior would show to an elder.
"Uncle Shi, Aunt Lin." He stepped aside to guide them to their seats, making room for them. "You must be tired from your journey, please have a seat."
Shi Huaiyuan sat down, his gaze sweeping across the table. The tea was already brewed; it was Tieguanyin, Shi Huaiyuan's favorite kind.
He glanced at the name "Xu Jia," then at the cigarette pack in the corner of the coffee table. He had a good memory; he'd seen that brand of cigarettes on the coffee table in his daughter's apartment.
"Why is it only you, the junior, who's here?" Shi Huaiyuan picked up his teacup, but didn't drink it. His tone was authoritative without being angry. "Where are your parents? They show no sincerity whatsoever."
Xu Yuanjia's smile remained unchanged as he bowed his head to refill Shi Huaiyuan's teacup. His movements were unhurried and his demeanor respectful: "My parents heard that you two are back and are eager to see their old friends. They are on their way here."
Before the words were finished, two voices came from the doorway, a man and a woman, their voices filled with the warmth of a long-awaited reunion.
"Old Lin! Old Shi! I'm so glad to see you!"
A middle-aged couple walked in. The man was wearing a dark jacket, was burly, with a square face, thick eyebrows, and large eyes, and exuded the generosity of a businessman in his early years. The woman had curly hair, wore a plain cheongsam, and a string of good-quality pearls around her neck. When she smiled, two shallow lines appeared at the corners of her eyes.
Lin Jing was stunned. She stared at the woman's face for two seconds, then suddenly stood up: "Sister-in-law Xu? You've lost so much weight!"
The woman smiled and held Lin Jing's hand: "I'm getting old, it's good to be thinner, my blood pressure has come down. You two haven't changed much, but Lao Shi is a bit paler, and his complexion isn't as good as before."
Shi Huaiyuan shook hands with the man, his gaze lingering on the man's face for a moment.
To be honest, he couldn't quite remember what the elderly couple Xu looked like after not seeing them for more than ten years, but the sense of familiarity he felt was undeniable. In particular, the way Mrs. Xu called Lin Jing "Old Lin"—the tone and the last syllable were exactly the same as how Lin Jing used to say it at home.
Xu Yuanjia stood aside and poured tea for his two "parents".
After a few rounds of tea, the atmosphere became lively.
When Lin Jing talked about how the two families used to celebrate the New Year together when they were in China, Aunt Xu answered fluently, even recounting in detail which year whose child broke the vase.
Shi Huaiyuan tentatively inquired about Xu's father's past experience in the timber business in Yunnan. Xu's father sighed and said that was all in the past. Now that he had retired, his son was successful and they didn't need to worry about him anymore.
During the conversation, Shi Huaiyuan gradually lowered his guard.
Xu Yuanjia sat to Shi Huaiyuan's left, frequently refilling his teacup, adding water, and handing him tissues. Shi Huaiyuan's teacup was empty for less than three seconds before tea was poured again. He coughed, and Xu Yuanjia immediately handed him a tissue.
Shi Huaiyuan gave the young man a meaningful look, but said nothing.
Aunt Xu held Lin Jing's hand, her tone becoming serious: "Old Lin, don't worry, Lulu is here, we'll take care of her. And in the future, both families will need to support the two children."
Lin Jing was indeed somewhat satisfied with this "Xu Jia".
The child was gentle and polite, came from a well-off family, and his parents were old friends who knew each other well. The scales in her heart had already tipped to the side.
"As for the children's affairs," Lin Jing smiled, "let them handle it themselves."
Shi Huaiyuan put down his teacup: "Kid, treat Lulu well. If I find out you dare to bully her, I'll risk my old life to make you pay."
Xu Yuanjia, now identified as Xu Jia, stood up, bowed slightly, and said in a solemn and clear voice, "Uncle, don't worry."
More than an hour later, Lin Jing and Shi Huaiyuan got up to say goodbye. They had to catch their flight and couldn't delay any longer.
Xu Yuanjia escorted them to the teahouse entrance, opened the car door for them, and placed his hand on the door frame until they were seated before gently closing the door. The taxi merged into the traffic, its taillights fading into the distance.
Xu Yuanjia stood by the roadside, his gentle smile gradually fading away.
-
The door to the private room was closed again, and the curtains were drawn tightly.
The middle-aged couple knelt on the carpet, their knees hitting the coffee table, barely daring to breathe.
Xu Yuanjia sat in a chair, legs crossed, twirling an empty teacup in his hand.
"You acted well," he said casually, as if he were commenting on a dish. "It wasn't for nothing that I went to great lengths to pick you out from the vast sea of people and spent tens of millions on plastic surgery for you."
He pulled a wad of cash from his pocket and tossed it aside. The banknotes scattered in the air, landing in front of the two kneeling men. "Let's do it again next time."
"Yes, yes, yes!"
"Master Jia, it's our honor to serve you," the two men echoed.
Then the man's hand moved impatiently first, grabbing the nearest few bills. The woman wasn't going to be outdone, lunging to snatch them back, her fingernails nearly scratching the man's hand. The two of them knelt on the ground, frantically picking up the money, their clothes crumpled at their waists.
The phone rang.
Xu Yuanjia glanced at the caller ID, then at the two people on the ground still robbing money.
He clearly didn't say anything, but the two men were as if they had been electrocuted, frantically scrambling out of the private room, not even daring to pick up the few remaining bills.
The moment the door closed, Xu Yuanjia reached out and slowly peeled off a thin, flesh-colored patch from his jawline.
He tore off the exquisitely replicated fake face of Xu Jia, revealing the extremely aggressive true face beneath.
The aggressiveness of his features was laid bare under the lights; the curve of his brow bone, the height of his nose, the thinness of his lips—every single detail screamed that Xu Yuanjia was not to be trifled with.
He tossed the fake face onto the table and answered the video call.
Shi Luyu's face appeared on the screen.
Her hair was still a little damp; she had just showered. She was wearing a light pink nightgown, one button undone at the neckline, revealing a sliver of her collarbone. Her cheeks were flushed, her eyes bright, and her expression a mixture of anxiety and shyness.
"Brother! My mom just messaged me saying she approves of our relationship." Her voice was fast and urgent. "What...what do you mean, 'what do you mean'?"
Her face turned even redder, and her gaze darted around, refusing to look directly at the camera.
"You secretly met my parents?" She brought her face closer to the screen, her voice low. "Why didn't you tell me?"
Xu Yuanjia leaned back in his chair, the cold, oppressive aura vanishing instantly from his face. In its place was a soft, aggrieved expression, like that of a puppy drenched in rain.
"Goodness, I did just meet your parents." His eyes drooped slightly, his eyelashes casting a shadow on his cheekbones, and his voice softened.
"Dad is so serious, I'm so nervous."
He paused, his fingers unconsciously circling on the table.
"Soothe me, okay? Be good."
