"Yaoyao, did you hear that? Those monks are chanting sutras, praying for our good deeds day and night."

Lin Zhiyao was shocked by his shameless words and her almond-shaped eyes widened. Just as she was about to retort, Shen Jin covered her mouth from behind.

Shen Jin's palm was too tight.

Lin Zhiyao could only let out soft sobs, tears welling in her eyes. She shook her head, trying to refuse, but it was no use.

Separated by a thin wooden board, the chanting of Buddhist scriptures continued uninterrupted, so close that it was right next to my ear, and I could hear every word clearly.

But Lin Zhiyao was pressed against the door, her back against Shen Jin's chest, and he was gripping her waist...

Lin Zhiyao's nose was filled with the scent of sandalwood from the Buddha statue, her ears were filled with Buddhist chants, but her body...

Her toes curled up inside the embroidered shoes, the twin lotus flower decorations on them trembling.

Tears rolled down her cheeks and seeped into the gaps between Shen Jin's fingers as he covered her mouth.

Shen Jin leaned close to her ear, his breath hot and moist: "Yaoyao, listen, the nuns are still chanting sutras. Do you think the Bodhisattva knows what we're doing here?"

After Shen Jin finished speaking, he released his hand from her mouth.

But Lin Zhiyao became increasingly speechless and felt even more ashamed. Tears rolled silently down her cheeks and dripped into his palm, which was gripping her chin like an iron clamp.

The chanting of the Sanskrit words lasted for a full hour.

Shen Jin held her in his arms for about an hour.

When the chanting stopped, he also loosened his shackles.

Lin Zhiyao's legs went weak and she slid down the door panel, only to be scooped back into his arms.

Shen Jin looked down at her. The gentle skin on her face was still there, her lips were slightly curved, but the light in her fox-like eyes was deeper than the night.

"Cousin, did you gain any insight from listening to the sutra just now?" Shen Jin asked deliberately, his voice low and husky, close to her ear.

"Ugh... you bastard..."

Lin Zhiyao turned her head away, tears silently streaming into her hair.

The worst time was late at night.

Shen Jin carried her, her face flushed, out of the meditation room; the red string bell was still tied to her ankle.

Lin Zhiyao was terrified. She stuffed the bell tightly with a handkerchief and pressed it down with her palm to keep it from ringing.

As the night deepened and the dew grew heavy, the temple lights had long been extinguished, leaving the entire courtyard shrouded in darkness. Only the main hall still had its ever-burning lamps, with candlelight leaking through the carved doors.

Small patches of warm yellow light were laid on the floor tiles.

Shen Jin carried her through the corridor and straight into the main hall.

Inside the hall, candlelight flickered, and a thick layer of incense ash accumulated in the incense burner on the altar. The embers were not yet extinguished, and wisps of white smoke rose up, filling the room with the tranquil scent of sandalwood.

The compassionate Bodhisattva statue directly in front of them has lowered eyes and brows, and two ever-burning lamps are quietly burning beneath its lotus pedestal.

The candlelight made the clay-sculpted, gilded bodhisattva statues appear even more distinct, with fierce-looking Vajras on either side, their ritual implements gleaming in the air, casting huge shadows in the flickering candlelight.

Realizing what Shen Jin wanted to do.

Lin Zhiyao's legs went weak with fear.

"Cousin... how dare you..."

Lin Zhiyao's voice trembled violently, cold sweat beaded on her forehead, and tears welled in her almond-shaped eyes, shimmering in the candlelight. "This is before the Buddha, before the Bodhisattva... Cousin, how dare you be so disrespectful—aren't you afraid of being punished by the Buddha—"

Shen Jin chuckled softly, pulled her closer, and pressed his lips against her earlobe, his breath hot.

"Outrageous?" he repeated, his voice laced with laughter, speaking slowly and deliberately, yet with a chilling madness in it. "Yaoyao, if Buddha were to appear and stop us now, I would obediently stop."

He kissed her after he finished speaking.

The kiss was deep and intense.
