Pure Love Imprisoned: My Ex-Boyfriend, Who Blamed Me, Imprisoned Me in Love
Chapter 105 He Lied to Her
Nothing unexpected happened that night, except that Lin Mian couldn't sleep well and woke up many times. Each time she woke up, she would first look at He Duoye and then touch his body to check his temperature.
He Duoye's fever subsided in the middle of the night.
Once it was light, he started walking around as if nothing had happened.
They ate breakfast sitting at the door of the cabin. The weather had cleared up, and sunlight streamed through the trees, making the dewdrops on the bushes glisten.
The scenery was beautiful, but the air was humid and stuffy.
As Lin Mian munched on a biscuit, she suddenly longed for the little white house by the lake. It was surrounded by vast forests, but it wasn't as humid and hot there.
He Duoye suddenly reached out and pinched the back of Lin Mian's neck.
Lin Mian looked up at him, and the moment their eyes met, she seemed to see complex and turbulent emotions in his eyes, but the next moment they turned into a smile.
"We have to leave now that we've finished eating, otherwise the boat will keep waiting for us and people will think we committed suicide in the woods."
Lin Mian finished the last bite of the biscuit, stood up, and brushed the dust off her clothes: "Then let's pack up and leave now."
He Duoye looked at her and said, "Okay."
They didn't have much to pack. They put the air mattress back in its original position and hung it up, slung their backpacks over their shoulders, closed the wooden door, and set off.
The two walked slowly and unhurriedly, just like their hike near the little white house. They walked and stopped along the way, and after crossing a small hill, Lin Mian suddenly saw a sea.
As evening approached, the golden-red sunset hung low over the distant sea, the clouds were burned with brilliant and fiery colors, and the waves surged on the sea.
He Duoye also stopped and watched for a while, then he made a phone call to have the boat come over.
They were still some distance from the beach. After hanging up the phone, He Duoye's speed noticeably increased, and Lin Mian almost couldn't keep up. She slipped and fell, but He Duoye caught her in time.
So for the rest of the way, He Duoye held Lin Mian's hand and led her forward quickly.
Lin Mian thought he was in a hurry and wanted to get to the beach quickly so he could get on the boat and leave, but after a dozen minutes, she realized that He Duoye was walking so fast not because he was in a hurry, but because he was in a rush.
Because a drone appeared in the sky.
It couldn't see the people through the dense forest, but it could spot the ships sailing on the sea. The drone hovered, passing by the ships speeding across the water, and following its direction, it found its way up to the top of the forest, lingering there.
Once the people hiding in the woods peek out, the drone will spot He Duoye and his group immediately.
Even if they can't see them now, the person piloting the drone can still know their approximate location.
Lin Mian couldn't help but look around. Perhaps someone was approaching them at that moment.
He Duoye took the bag Lin Mian was carrying and threw it away, leaving her only with her weapon and phone. They then moved forward at a faster pace.
Finally, the two emerged from the woods and found themselves on a small beach.
The waves lapped against the beach, and not far away, a speedboat sped towards them against the setting sun.
The drone hovered between the speedboat and the beach. Seemingly spotting its target, He Duoye, the drone suddenly changed direction and swooped down.
Lin Mian's heart jumped, and she instantly thought of the terrifying drone bomb.
But when the drone was halfway down its dive, it suddenly malfunctioned, changed from a dive to a straight fall, and finally broke into pieces on the beach with a thud.
He Duoye ignored the drone, took Lin Mian's hand, crossed the beach, and walked directly into the sea.
The speedboat had stopped a dozen meters from the shore, and two figures were standing at the bow.
He Duoye led Lin Mian through the water. The cool seawater quickly rose from their calves to their waists and chests. Lin Mian was already struggling to move. The waves were surging and crashing, and she could hardly stand. She felt like she was about to be swept away.
He Duoye held her steadily the whole time.
The speedboat stopped in front, and the people on board reached out to Lin Mian: "I'll pull you up."
Lin Mian reached out and grabbed the man, and He Duoye lifted her up. Lin Mian climbed onto the boat without much effort. She quickly turned around, leaned over the side of the boat, and reached out to He Duoye.
Give me your hand quickly.
But He Duoye stood still in the water.
The waves rolled gently, and the setting sun, golden-red in color, dyed the surrounding clouds crimson, like spilled blood.
Lin Mian looked at He Duoye and suddenly understood.
He lied to her.
He never intended to leave with her.
He brought Lin Mian on this trip only to see her off.
He lied to her.
Lin Mian felt a surge of intense emotions rushing up, not anger or rage, but as if she had been submerged in water in an instant, feeling wet and heavy as she fell down.
She stared at He Duoye in silence, without saying a word.
At this moment, He Duoye grasped Lin Mian's hand. He was standing in the water, quite a distance away from Lin Mian, and had to raise his arm to touch Lin Mian's slightly wet face.
"I need to finish things here," he explained. "I'll come back to you once I'm done."
Lin Mian's voice was hoarse: "What if you hadn't come back?"
If you stay here and something happens, what if...
He Duoye touched Lin Mian's face: "There's no such hypothetical. I will definitely come back."
"How long?" Lin Mian asked, looking at him. "A month? Or two months?"
He Duoye couldn't give a specific timeframe; he could only say, "I'll do it as soon as possible."
For a moment, Lin Mian felt an urge to lose her temper, to shake off He Duoye's hand, and to yell at him as a bastard, a liar, and an unprecedentedly scumbag.
But she didn't have the strength to do that.
He Duoye gently brushed his fingertips under Lin Mian's eyes, wiping away her tears. He smiled and spoke as usual, "Don't be angry, Mianmian."
He paused for a moment, then smiled and said, "For the sake of how much I love you."
Lin Mian's eyelashes trembled, and for a moment she doubted that she had misheard.
But He Duoye loosened his grip at that moment, and Lin Mian tried to grab him but failed. He took a few steps back, gave a hand signal to the people on the boat, and the speedboat immediately started moving, turning around in circles.
The waves surged and receded, and He Duoye stood in the almost submerged water, smiled at Lin Mian who was kneeling by the side of the boat, and waved goodbye.
The speedboat successfully turned around and sped towards the sea.
Lin Mian straightened up and watched He Duoye in the sea getting farther and farther away and smaller and smaller. The feeling of being submerged in water came back, but it was even heavier and colder than before.
Looking at her empty palms, Lin Mian finally understood what this feeling was like.
It's a suffocating feeling of helplessness.
