Lin Mian didn't know, so she didn't reply.

He Duoye: "How's it on the ship?"

Not so good... Lin Mian thought, stuffing her phone under her pillow. Not wanting to go back to He Duoye, she simply covered herself with the blanket and prepared to sleep.

There were usually few crew members in the area where she and Meili lived; the only sound outside was the sound of the waves. Meili was washing up in the bathroom, and the sound of running water was intermittent.

After listening for a while, Lin Mian took out her phone and replied, "It's fine."

She paused for a moment, then typed: "How's your injury?"

He Duoye replied quickly this time: "It's been reprocessed."

There's nothing more to say then. Lin Mian quickly typed, "I'm going to sleep."

He Duoye replied to the message, and Lin Mian waited a while before slowly taking out her phone to check. It was just the word "Goodnight," and she didn't reply.

Although you've moved to a different place and embarked on your journey back home, it's actually not even 10 o'clock yet.

Lin Mian was wide awake and tossed and turned in bed. The signal at sea was poor, and it got worse the further they went. At first, Lin Mian could still browse posts, but gradually the network became choppy and intermittent.

Meili, who was in the bed opposite, couldn't sleep either; she was also looking at her phone.

The room was pitch black, with only the light from two cell phone screens illuminating their faces.

"Did Third Master tell you what happened after he sent you away?" Mei Li suddenly asked.

Lin Mian shook her head: "No, what's wrong?"

Meili's voice was low: "My sister didn't say either, but... I told you before, my sister and I have a telepathic connection, and I can roughly sense her emotional state."

"I felt nervous and scared during the time before and after you were brought here," Meili said. "The more I think about it now, the more I realize it wasn't me who was nervous and scared, it was my sister, but when I asked her, she wouldn't tell me anything."

Lin Mian empathized deeply: "If I asked him, I'd probably get the same result—he wouldn't tell the truth."

Mei sighed angrily, "I hate this kind of self-righteous 'doing what's best for me'."

Lin Mian turned over without saying a word.

Lin Mian couldn't sleep at all on the first night on the ship. The bed under her kept swaying with the waves. When she closed her eyes, all she could think about were random things. When she finally fell asleep, she had a nightmare.

She woke up with a start and checked the time; it was only a little past five in the morning.

With her phone completely out of signal and unable to stay in bed any longer, Lin Mian got up, quickly washed up, and went out of her room. She leaned on the railing, looking at the sea in the early morning.

The sky was dark blue, and the boundless sea was black and gloomy, making one feel depressed.

She lay there for a while, and then Mei Li came over. After saying good morning, the two of them leaned on the railing together, looking at the sea with boredom.

There wasn't much entertainment on the ship, so they could only wander around aimlessly. When they got tired, they would go back to lie down and wait until it got dark. Then, the two of them would avoid the crew and go to the mess hall for dinner.

The food during the day was noticeably better than last night's. Even though Lin Mian didn't have much of an appetite, she could tell that it was the kind of food she would like.

When they were almost finished eating, the captain came over, sat down next to Meili, and handed her his satellite phone: "It's your sister's call."

Meili immediately took it, her eyes reddening as she spoke, and she called out with a wronged expression, "Sister."

Lin Mian stirred the soup in her bowl, listening to Mei Li and Mei Zhu complain about how boring it was on the ship, how they couldn't sleep well at night, and how strong the sea breeze was.

After an unknown amount of time, Lin Mian was still in a daze when Mei Li tugged at her hand: "Let me answer the phone."

Lin Mian took it and subconsciously called out, "Sister Meizhu."

There was a half-second silence on the other end of the phone, then a familiar, low, husky voice came through: "It's me."

Lin Mian fell silent for a moment, her eyelashes drooping, and she had the same reaction as Mei Li.

She didn't speak, and He Duoye chuckled softly, "Still angry?"

Lin Mian became even angrier and said, "So what if it is?"

He Duoye said, "It's nothing, it doesn't affect my love for you."

Lin Mian: "..."

How annoying! She's usually as stubborn as a piece of dog poop, but she only says these sweet nothings when she's angry. What's the difference between that and admitting you have a sheep's tail after you've already taken your pants off?

He Duoye then asked, "Don't you have anything to say to me?"

Lin Mian thought of his injuries, but a lump formed in her throat, and she couldn't bring herself to speak. He Duoye seemed to know what she was thinking and said, "I had an anti-inflammatory injection last night, and the wound is mostly healed."

Lin Mian said in a muffled voice, "It can't be that fast."

He Duoye said, "It's that fast? I'll send you the photos in a couple of days, you can see for yourself."

Lin Mian felt the anger in her heart gradually subside, and she said, "Send it now."

Her phone has no signal now and she can't receive messages, but she can view her history.

He Duoye readily agreed.

On the third day on the ship, Meili disembarked at a port in another country. She would then take a plane to China to meet up with Lin Mian.

They had already agreed on the ship that Meili would stay temporarily at Lin Mian's rented apartment. Lin Mian had given Meili all the valuable rings in her suitcase, because she probably wouldn't be able to bring them into the country herself.

Meili is at least a moderately wealthy woman, so it's more reasonable for her to bring these things than for someone like her who doesn't even have any identification.

Lin Mian traveled alone for another day by boat and arrived at a domestic port in the evening. Her situation was rather complicated, requiring her to shuttle back and forth between customs and the police station.

Fortunately, she met a kind stranger who knew about these complicated matters and helped her with the communication. It was past midnight when she finally entered the country and received a temporary identity certificate.

Dragging her suitcase, Lin Mian emerged from the police station, utterly exhausted.

She stood in front of the police station. It was the middle of the night, the streets were quiet, and the streetlights were bright and still. She looked at the road. Although she was back in the safe and comfortable country, she couldn't muster the energy to walk forward.

While she was in a daze, she vaguely heard someone calling her name.

"Mianmian!"

"Mianmian!"

Lin Mian snapped out of her daze and turned to look. A silver-gray sedan was parked on the roadside not far away. Her uncle, aunt, and cousin all got out of the car and called her name.

Lin Mian's aunt ran over and hugged her tightly, choking back tears as she said, "You're finally back! We were so worried about you."

Lin Mian's eyes stung, and she sniffed to hold back her tears.

Lin Mian hugged her aunt back and said in a hoarse voice, "Yes, I'm back... Aunt, what brings you here?"

My aunt said, "Xiao Ye sent us to pick you up. She said there was a problem with your documents, so she asked us to come to the police station to pick you up."

Lin Mian was taken aback.

My uncle and cousin also gathered around at this time.

Uncle patted Lin Mian on the back: "Never mind anything else, it's good that you're back. No matter what, it's not as safe and stable as our country. Your aunt and I were worried about you every day when you were away."

Lin Mian smiled, rubbed her nose, and said, "Don't worry about me. I'm doing quite well over there. I'm eating very well, and I've even gained weight."

Aunt touched Lin Mian's waist, frowned and said, "Nonsense, I think you've lost weight."

She had gained weight, but she had lost some weight due to the fatigue of the boat trip these past few days, Lin Mian thought to herself, but said aloud, "No way..."

"Sis, is it fun abroad?" my teenage cousin couldn't help but ask excitedly. "Where's your husband? When is he coming back?"
