Pure Love Imprisoned: My Ex-Boyfriend, Who Blamed Me, Imprisoned Me in Love
Chapter 120 Maybe I won't survive tonight.
Wenya replied, "Can't I just want to help you?"
After saying that, she sent another message: "I thought that after so many encounters, and even the time I drove you to safety, you'd trust me a little. Turns out you don't?"
Lin Mian didn't know how to respond to these words.
Wen Ya continued, "I've said everything I need to say. If you're willing to take the gamble for He Duoye, then quietly disembark at the next port. If you're not willing to take the risk, then forget it."
Lin Mian carefully read through the messages Wen Ya had sent, but she couldn't tell how much of it was true and how much was false from the text.
She pulled out a map, compared it carefully, and found that the cruise ship had indeed taken a long detour, with only one river. The detour was only in terms of distance, just like a subway route is more circuitous than a taxi route.
The next port was still two hours away, so Lin Mian turned off her phone, closed her eyes, and leaned against the headboard.
"Lin Mian, what would you like to eat?" Mei Li asked, holding the cruise ship's menu. "You can order and have it delivered to your room."
Lin Mian had no appetite, so she asked Mei Li, "Can you get me a gun?"
Meili said, "We'll deal with it when we get there. Although you can get this thing if you have money, it's still a bit of a hassle."
Lin Mian then naturally asked, "Can we arrive by tomorrow morning?"
Mei paused subtly for a second, then opened the menu and said, "If all goes well, we should be able to disembark tomorrow morning."
She closed the menu and sat down next to Lin Mian: "We'll get a car and drive to Baimian City; it'll only take a few hours."
Both "morning" and "a few hours" are vague ways of measuring time.
Lin Mian thought for a moment, took the menu, and ordered fried rice and steak.
When the food was served, she ate it all even though she had no appetite.
She decided to take a gamble and risk going with Wenya.
From the moment Meili's condition improved, Lin Mian had a very subtle feeling. At first, she thought that Meili was just afraid that she would feel bad after comparing herself to Meizhu, so she didn't tell her that Meizhu was fine.
But perhaps it's not just because of that.
After dinner, Lin Mian turned off the lights and went to sleep.
She and Mei Li hadn't slept all night, and the journey had been nerve-wracking and exhausting, leaving them both utterly worn out. After the lights were turned off, Lin Mian opened her eyes and stared at the dark ceiling.
The cruise ship had sailed away from the bright city, and outside the balcony was a vast expanse of darkness and the light of one or two farmhouses.
More than an hour passed. Lin Mian turned on her phone under the covers, and after confirming that it was almost time, she quietly sat up.
Meili in the next bed was already asleep and didn't hear the soft sound of the door closing.
The cruise ship soon arrived at the port. Lin Mian followed several tourists off the ship. The port streetlights were dim, and in front of them was a brightly lit building with a long line of cars parked next to it.
Lin Mian looked up and saw a slender figure standing in front of a car, on the edge of a streetlamp. Only a dark outline could be seen, but it looked familiar.
She walked over slowly, and sure enough, it was Wenya.
She was still standing in the shadows, but Lin Mian could see her face clearly when he got closer.
Nothing had changed; even her smile was the same as always, gentle and warm: "You've arrived?"
Lin Mian nodded, walked over, and asked, "Have you been waiting here the whole time?"
Wen Ya smiled and said, "I had imagined that your first question would be about how Young Master He is doing, but I didn't expect you to ask me first. I am truly honored."
Lin Mian: "..."
She just felt that since she was already here, what happened next was entirely up to Wen Ya's mood. As for news about He Duoye, Wen Ya would tell him if she wanted to, and if she didn't, there was no point in her anxiously asking.
"Get in the car, I'll take you to see him," Wen Ya said, opening the car door for Lin Mian.
Lin Mian stood there for a second, then couldn't help but ask, "Is he... alright now?"
Wen Ya looked at Lin Mian, her gentle eyes filled with a smile, pity, and a hint of excitement.
"He's in bad shape right now. Shrapnel from the explosion hit his chest, and he might not make it through the night."
Lin Mian didn't understand the meaning of those words for a moment.
Wenya continued, "Perhaps, what you're going to see now is the last time you'll ever see him."
She looked at Lin Mian's blank expression and said softly, "If it weren't for that, I wouldn't have been in such a hurry to let you off the ship."
Lin Mian's mind went blank. In her dizzying state, she didn't remember how she got on the car or how much time had passed. When she finally came to her senses, feeling cold all over, she said, "I don't believe it."
Wen Ya sat down next to her. She didn't say anything, but handed her phone to Lin Mian.
Inside was a video. The person filming was shooting from a great height at a square manor. Clusters of firelight flickered and lit up various parts of the manor, while a continuous stream of overlapping gunshots and explosions could be heard.
Wen Ya explained, "Young Master He set a trap for a big shot, who fell from power, but he was also retaliated against and almost killed in a bombing. A stray bullet shrapnel pierced his chest, hitting his heart at a tricky angle. He didn't die immediately, but even the slightest movement would be fatal. No doctor in Myanmar dared to perform surgery on him."
Lin Mian stared at the flickering firelight on her phone screen, feeling that Wen Ya's voice was ethereal and cold, like the whispers of a ghost. She vaguely remembered the nightmare that Mei Li had mentioned.
It turns out it was true.
"But he was lucky. My grandfather helped him out and brought a team of doctors from abroad overnight to discuss the surgical plan." Wen Ya lightly tapped the screen, and the video switched to a photo.
The dim background transformed into a bright, stark white hospital ward. He Duoye lay shirtless on the bed, wearing a breathing mask, surrounded by several tense-looking people in white coats.
Lin Mian felt as if an invisible hand was squeezing her heart, making it hard to breathe and causing her suffocation.
"Whether the surgery will be successful depends on his luck," Wenya said, then added, "but there's also good news."
Lin Mian managed to catch her breath, her voice hoarse, and asked, "What good news?"
Wen Ya said, "He Jingjun has been arrested, and there's a high probability she'll be sentenced to death, or at least life imprisonment."
Lin Mian burst into tears instantly: "What kind of good news is this?"
If it has nothing to do with He Duoye, then it's not good news.
Wen Ya handed her a tissue and said softly, "How can it not count? He Duoye won the battle against the He family and fought his way out of a desperate situation. He's now free."
"If he survives the surgery," Wenya added with a smile to her mind.
