Lin Ci froze on the spot. After regaining her senses, her face burned from her ears to her neck. She pulled the quilt up and covered herself completely.

Pei Jinxuan's face turned red even faster than hers.

He quickly turned around, took a deep breath, and then lowered his voice, pretending to be calm, and said, "I'll have Suwen and Siqi bring the porridge over."

After saying that, he left.

Lin Ci's heart pounded wildly for a long time. She quietly pulled back the quilt and looked inside, wondering how much he had seen. Then, she unconsciously touched her cheeks with the back of her hand; they were burning hot.

Before long, Suwen arrived with a bowl of porridge, followed by Siqi carrying a basin of water.

The way they looked at Lin Ci was different now; each of them showed more respect than the other.

Si Qi spoke first, "My wife is really amazing. At first, I thought you were just a paper doll with no real skills."

Before she could finish speaking, Suwen nudged her hard with her elbow.

Siqi shut his mouth.

Suwen smiled and said, "These past few days, the Prince has been watching over the Lady without closing his eyes, and he specifically instructed us to keep a close watch on her. We dare not slack off in the slightest."

"Yes, yes, yes." Siqi nodded vigorously. "I've never seen Your Highness so attentive."

As she spoke, she was elbowed by Suwen again.

Lin Ci smiled and said, "Thank you both. If you don't mind my medical skills, please feel free to come to me if you have any headaches or fevers."

"Okay, okay." Siqi quickly reached out his hand. "My hands and feet have been cold these past few days. Please take a look at them, my wife."

Suwen couldn't bear to watch any longer, so she quickly pulled Siqi aside, pressed her head down, and apologized to Lin Ci, "My lady, she's young and impulsive, please don't blame her. My lady, please have your porridge first, and don't hesitate to ask if you need anything."

As soon as she finished speaking, she pulled Siqi away to take her leave.

Lin Ci was indeed hungry, and she finished a large bowl of porridge. After that, she fell asleep again, and during that time she was in a daze and had many nonsensical dreams.

In her dream, she heard someone crying and heard funeral music playing. A row of wandering spirits passed in front of her, which startled her awake.

Lin Ci opened her eyes to find it was already bright outside. She didn't know how long she had slept.

Just as she was about to call for help, the sound of crying drifted in again.

This time it's not a dream.

She listened intently, and heard the mournful music playing in the palace: the suona wailing, the wooden fish drumming, and someone wailing at the top of their lungs.

Lin Ci was wide awake. She hastily threw on some clothes and pushed open the door, following the sound towards the back door. Soon she saw a group of people carrying a black lacquered coffin, slowly walking out of the back door passage.

Leading the procession was a coffin bearer who rang a bell and chanted incantations, scattering paper money all the way.

Lin Ci's heart tightened, and she grabbed the little maid who was wiping away tears, asking, "Who's gone?"

The maid shook her head, continuing to cry.

Lin Ci then approached an old woman and asked, "What's wrong?"

The old woman sighed with tears in her eyes, "Alas, to die so young, how pitiful, how pitiful."

So young... Could it be Amo?

Impossible! She clearly cured his poison, cleaned his wounds, and stabilized his pulse. How could he have died?

Lin Ci looked up and saw that the coffin procession had already left the back gate of the Prince's Mansion and entered the street.

She no longer cared about appearances, rushed into the street, and blocked the procession carrying the coffin.

"Open the coffin." Lin Ci's voice trembled, her hands trembled, and half of her hair was disheveled, making her look like a madwoman. "He won't die. He can't possibly die!"

The person carrying the coffin just kept crying, muttering words she couldn't understand, and scattering handfuls of paper money into the air.

A kind old woman on the street came up to her, took her arm, and whispered, "Madam, the dead cannot be brought back to life. Please accept my condolences."

As soon as he finished speaking, a drum sounded, a white banner was raised, and the coffin bearers walked away, shaking their copper bells.

Lin Ci wanted to chase after him to see what was going on, but his legs gave way, his vision went black, and he couldn't even stand up straight.

She hadn't yet recovered the energy she'd expended to save Amo; that frantic running and shouting had almost drained her completely.

She leaned against the wall, clutching her chest, and it took her a while to straighten up.

To outsiders, she was just a heartbroken woman grieving for her deceased husband, not even wearing a decent outer garment.

"My lady!" Si Qi rushed over and immediately helped her up when he saw her. "What are you doing here? Go back and rest."

"I..." Lin Ci hesitated, glancing in the direction the coffin was being carried, and couldn't help but feel sad.

Lin Ci followed Si Qi back to Liufang Garden. She should have been happy to have saved A Mo, but now she felt a heavy weight on her heart, making it hard for her to breathe.

However, as soon as they entered the courtyard, they heard Princess Yongle's silvery laughter coming from afar, followed by a loud "bang" as the courtyard gate was forcefully kicked open.

Princess Yongle rushed out like the wind, took her hand, and smiled broadly, her eyes crinkling: "Sister Aci, you're finally awake!"

Seeing the joy on her face, and thinking about the coffin that had been sent away, Lin Ci felt even heavier in her heart.

She looked into Princess Yongle's bright, sparkling eyes, her lips slightly parted, unsure of how to begin.

After hesitating for a long time, she slowly withdrew her hand from Princess Yongle's palm and said with great shame, "It is my lack of medical skills that prevented me from saving Amo. Princess, the dead cannot be brought back to life. Please don't be too sad."

Princess Yongle blinked, looking completely bewildered: "What are you talking about?"

Seeing her bewildered expression, Lin Ci felt even more distressed.

I clearly cured the poison, so why couldn't I keep the person?

Princess Yongle is still in a daze right now; she must be heartbroken.

Thinking it over, she took Princess Yongle's hand and gently patted the back of it. "Please accept my condolences. I'll prescribe a calming remedy later; it will surely heal your heartache. As for A-Mo's matter, I really..."

Before she could speak, Lin Ci suddenly gasped, her eyes widening as she stared blankly at the courtyard gate.

Pei Jinxuan was walking over from the crescent-shaped gate, followed by a familiar figure. The person was tall, with a dark and shiny face, and a bright white smile as he walked.

Isn't this Amo?

Lin Ci was dumbfounded.

Amo quickly stepped forward, knelt on one knee in front of her, and kowtowed deeply.

"Thank you for saving my life." He gestured.

"You're not dead?!" Lin Ci blurted out.

Amo and Princess Yongle looked at each other in bewilderment.

Princess Yongle was even more confused, saying, "He's not dead. You were the one who saved him, don't you remember?"

"That coffin that was just sent out..."

"It was my arrangement." Pei Jinxuan strolled over unhurriedly, put his hands behind his back, and stood in front of Lin Ci. "I'll explain this to you in detail later."

Lin Ciyun was confused, but nodded unconsciously. She bent down and helped Amo up, first kneading his limbs, then opening his eyelids to look at him, and finally placing three fingers on his pulse.

[Are you feeling unwell?] Lin Ci gestured.

My legs are still a little numb. My appetite is poor.

"That's good. I'll prescribe a few more doses of medicine for you to clear away the remaining toxins."

Lin Ci smiled and gestured, then patted his sturdy shoulder twice, squeezed his arm, and finally showed an admiring expression, as if he were examining his most prized work.

"Being young means you have plenty of energy and recover quickly," Lin Ci said with a smile, very pleased.

These words struck Pei Jinxuan as extremely unpleasant.

He glanced at himself discreetly; he had long arms and a slender waist, and his legs were even a bit longer than Amo's.

Why didn't she come to praise him?

He lowered his head, covered his mouth with his fist, and coughed lightly twice.

Lin Ci didn't hear it. Princess Yongle didn't hear it either. The two were surrounding Amo, one saying he had a good foundation, the other saying he was really lucky. Amo was embarrassed by the praise, blushed, and immediately showed off his biceps.

The three of them burst into laughter.

Pei Jinxuan stood alone to the side, suddenly feeling like a lonely old man.

He coughed again, this time for real.

Unfortunately, no one paid any attention to him.

Pei Jinxuan felt bored and was about to leave when she saw Lin Ci looking over. Her eyes seemed to be filled with sugar, and her smile was especially sweet.

Everything around her instantly turned into a mirage, except for her.

Pei Jinxuan couldn't help but smile.

Princess Yongle suddenly leaned over, blinking her big, round eyes, and asked, "Brother, what are you laughing at?"
