Falling into the rain

Chapter 27 How could she not understand?

The gaze from beside her was direct and intense, but Yu Tingyu pretended not to notice and listened silently to the elders' conversation.

Chen Xuning took the tissue Wen Huaixu had just handed her and wiped her cuffs. She glanced at Wen Huaixu, whose face didn't look too good, and at Yu Tingyu, who was keeping her head down and trying to make herself as inconspicuous as possible.

Her intuition told her that the two people in front of her seemed to be having a disagreement.

She raised an eyebrow nonchalantly, picked up her coffee, and took a sip.

To be honest, she didn't like Yu Tingyu very much, especially after what happened with Chen Xuran. But what bothered her even more was that she hadn't expected Wen Huaixu to care for his sister, who wasn't related to her by blood, to be so protective of her, and that his level of care far exceeded what was expected.

She secretly thought that if she really married Wen Huaixu in the future, the relationship between the two women would probably be a big problem.

Of course, she wouldn't show it even if she disliked it. Chen Xuning placed the coffee cup on the table, looked at Yu Tingyu, and asked gently, "Tingyu, are you planning to study abroad after graduation? We both study art, and art is a skill in many areas. I know some good professors abroad, so feel free to ask me for help anytime you need it."

Yu Tingyu's fingers, gripping the cup, curled up unconsciously.

These words sounded like concern, but they sounded particularly harsh to her.

They're kicking her out before anything's even happened?

"Your Uncle Liang and I are considering this, since the artistic atmosphere is stronger abroad," Wen Yun said first, her tone carrying a hint of consideration. "But in the end, it's up to Tingyu to decide."

"I'll listen to my uncle and aunt."

Yu Tingyu responded softly, but another deep male voice rang out at the same time.

"There are also several good universities in China."

Wen Huaixu's tone was emotionless, but his gaze was fixed on Yu Tingyu's face.

He did not approve of Yu Tingyu studying abroad.

He's so young and he has to go to a completely unfamiliar city to study and live. The main problem is that if something goes wrong, he can't get there in time. Even with a private plane, the journey will be delayed by several hours. Everything is unknown. How can he feel at ease?

Upon hearing Wen Huaixu's words, Chen Xuning's expression changed, and she tightened her grip on the cup.

Yu Tingyu subconsciously looked up and met Wen Huaixu's gaze. His expression was tense and serious, his eyes fixed on her face, making her breathe slow down, and she couldn't even dodge.

If they continued to stare at each other like that, she feared she would drown in his gaze.

Yu Tingyu bit her lip, forcing herself to look away.

"Alright, alright," Wen Yun gently changed the subject. "It's too early to think about that now. Let's think about where to go after the rain stops."

Chen Xuning quickly composed herself and gently suggested, "There's a seaside art festival here tomorrow. If you're free, how about we go check it out?"

After she finished speaking, she turned to look at Wen Yun and said affectionately, "Aunt Wen, why don't you come and relax with me?"

Wen Yun waved her hand and smiled, as if there was a hidden meaning in her words: "You young people definitely have more in common, so I won't get involved."

Chen Xuning smiled and looked expectantly at the only man present.

Wen Huaixu crossed his long legs, his eyelids drooped slightly, and his palms rested casually on the armrest of the sofa.

He knew that Yu Tingyu had been looking forward to this arts festival for a long time, simply because her favorite piano master was a guest. If no one else had invited her, she would definitely have gone.

Come to think of it, it had been a while since he had accompanied Yu Tingyu to any art events like this. In the past, whenever he had free time, he would always go with her to art exhibitions, concerts, and art shows.

However, he had been preoccupied with trivial matters these past few months, and Yu Tingyu had always refused him with various reasons, so he hadn't found a suitable opportunity. Now, he could take advantage of this time to spend more time with her.

Thinking of this, Wen Huaixu slowly nodded, his voice as calm as ever: "I have time."

Chen Xuning was immediately delighted and quickly said "Okay".

But Yu Tingyu didn't feel so good. She sat silently, without saying a word.

I was actually furious inside.

Why did you agree to her request?

Why?!

Despite her inner turmoil, she remained calm on the surface, her back ramrod straight, still maintaining the poised demeanor of a well-mannered lady.

After sitting for a short while, Wen Huaixu got up to say goodbye. Yu Tingyu also wanted to take the opportunity to leave, but she was stopped by Wen Yun after taking only half a step.

Chen Xuning and her daughter realized that they had something to say, so they wisely didn't linger and said goodbye to Wen Yun with smiles.

Now there are only two people left in the living room.

Yu Tingyu felt a little uneasy, worried that Wen Yun might have noticed some of her hidden thoughts.

But the next second, Wen Yun gently pulled Yu Tingyu's hand and said in a gentle tone, "Tingyu, don't go to the art festival with them tomorrow. I've made a reservation at a restaurant next door. You can invite Sihe and the others to go instead, okay?"

Yu Tingyu's smile froze instantly, a fact that Wen Yun could also see.

Wen Yun composed herself and sighed, "Tingyu, you're a smart child. There are some things your aunt doesn't need to say. You know your older brother is a reckless person, and it's impossible to rely on him. Although Huaixu doesn't have those feelings for Xu Ning yet, who can say for sure what will happen in the future? It's always good to let them spend more time alone together."

She emphasized the word "alone" very clearly, as if to remind her.

Yu Tingyu lowered her eyes, her long eyelashes casting a small, light shadow beneath them.

How could she not understand?

She understood and thought through Wen Yun's words better than anyone else.

But it felt like a needle had pierced my heart, and it ached with every breath.

But she couldn't show it at all, especially in front of Wen Yun.

When she looked up again, her voice was soft and steady: "Auntie, I understand."

Wen Yun's lips curled into a satisfied smile. She patted Yu Tingyu's hand and her tone softened, "Good girl."
